We recently had a Polar Vortex hit North America. It was colder than it has been in almost 100 years. I live in Minnesota where the temperature got to be colder than it is on Mars. That was quite the cold spell.

But today I came across this article. I always say when things get bad, that they can always be worse and this is indeed some of the worse weather I have ever heard of, barring Jupiter's never ending Hurricane.

Nice holiday resort then...

I always said 'failiure is not an option',
It seems that way too on a stellar scale.

That is crazy, because in California things can't be more opposite. I have never seen such a warm winter here. temps remaining in mid 70s. I was so frustrated around the holidays, because I like the feel of winter during Christmas. Lionheart, please send some cold south LOL

It got cold in Florida too, when it did.  It's not now, but it went from the 80s to the upper 30s in one day.  One day.  Whitley Strieber was right.

*snicker*...I live in Alaska....and the joke now is that
our cold and snow went south for the winter...hoping to warm up !
Its so warm here...scary really...its January and my Daffodils are
coming up...

It's sad  that it's raining so much here that the ACE is flooding the river (and killing it) with water from lake O, while they're about to turn off the faucet in California.  I wish there were a way to pipeline that extra water to the west coast, instead of building oil pipelines.  But whatever.

I had heard that SoCal was building desalination plants between L.A. and S.D. Complaints are the high energy required and then, what to do with the salt.

The depletion of the Ogallala is going to hit California hard. It is the big aquifer below Oklahoma, Nebraska, Kansas, and Texas, and it is about to go completely dry. It is at 20% now, and when it is dry it will take centuries to replenish supposedly. The massive agricultural output of the US West is largely built on depleting just that one aquifer. Desal plants can take up some of the difference, but at tremendous cost this moment in time. Unless energy rates go massively down, changing water availability is going to displace tons of people around the world in the next 20 years.

Well, isn't it raining cats and dogs now?  Maybe it'll help.

I have assumed, for the past 30 yrs or so, that because of the first free trade deal, Canada was going to supply the U.S. with fresh water. There'll be no complaints about pipelines then.
