Mugwort has proven to give me lucid dreams effortlessly.

it's active component is called Thujone which apparently can't be removed from the body once it is in ( even though it is small amounts it builds up.)
so i would advise against ingesting it.

i would rip up some mugwort, put it in a pouch, and keep it right by my pillow and just the odor of this can give you lucid dreams.

but has anyone here tried using it for astral projection? given my current low level of experience with this herb, it seems like it would help with spontaneous OBE's ...

I realise this post is old but I had a very strong cup of mugwort last night and all I can say is it extended my REM sleep and dreams quite substantially (as the packet said it would) and I did it earlier in the night than usual, I would also fall back asleep quicker than usual and dream again instantly, however I didn't prep for it (affirmations, intent) the night before and had some pretty twisted dreams.

Definitely worth pursuing again with intent in mind, and isn't too revolting to drink albeit slight bitterness.
Woohoo!

I heard you can't take it for long periods of time though.
But maybe with just inhaling it you can, idk.

One strong cup of it affected my dreaming for two days!

It's hard to say that I'd rather stay awake when I'm asleep; because my dreams are bursting at the seams.

Mugwort is an aromatic plant. The herb itself (which is sold dried in many co-ops or health stores in the tea/herb section) does not contain much of the plant's oil which can be toxic in high amounts. You can buy the essential oil which should not be consumed, but steeping the dried leaves and drinking it is thought of to have no harmful effects. Some countries in Asia actually use it to flavor food and I guess some people even smoke mugwort for it's medicinal effects (though I've never done so). In general it is used as a dream herb. It is a mild sedative to promote healthful sleeping patterns (like chamomile or melatonin). It tastes horrible, but I have found it much more effective to drink it like a tea then using it as a herb pillow.

Why take something with toxicity concerns like that attached to it though... there are other herbs out there.
