Ok so this is not new to me, but sometimes I have control of this. I have started dating a new person and she has pulled herself into my dreams and she says its blank and its almost like a void then I boot her out.  I also cry and fight in my sleep and I don't remember anything.  She finally asked me the other day if I could astral project, I said yes.  She said when I am asleep she can't feel my presence or my feelings and its almost like I'm in a void all night.  She thinks I am doing the astral project automatically to help coop with my nightmares of the past..... is it even possible to do it automatically and not know you are doing it?

According to the traditional literature, we project every night, although most of us are unconscious and unaware of the fact.

I can't speak for what your girlfriend is experiencing, but I will say this: When I was in my early twenties and was trying to project, I could never remember my experiences. Other people that I was trying to meet up with in the NP were able to independently confirm that I was there multiple times, but I had no memory of it. The only noticeable thing I could describe was that on those nights I couldn't remember any dreams and the time period that I was supposed to be 'out', I could only remember as a blank period during my sleep that was like a deep, dark blackness or void.

This could be indicative of low NP awareness for a number of reasons; for me at that time, I was suffering pretty severe depression.
Be yourself; everyone else is already taken.

There could be quite a few explanations. The appearance of a human spirit can actually be a complicated thing when your talking astral. It could be a thoughtform you created but has no actual connection to her, Could be an akashic fragment which takes on personality, or a part of her spirit which takes on the role of communicator  in which case she should retain some fragment of the encounter, or any combination of the above.

That's true, and in the same way of thinking you could have developed a barrier to have no one close to you to enter your dreams. Maybe it's a fear that you have of people you know enter your dreams?
The partial becomes complete; the crooked, straight; the empty,
full; the worn out, new. He whose (desires) are few gets them; he
whose (desires) are many goes astray.
