Where does Sexual Pleasure come from?

Been thinking a lot about this.

Sexual excitement is not related to procreation as such, but on the physical plane it has throughout evolution obviously been adapted by biological lifeforms to motivate the burdensome task of bringing new life into the world.

Lust seems universally to be mainly triggered by the perverse, and is therefore deeply connected to it. Just consider how people get turned on by for instance thigh high boots. Why? By being otherwise mostly naked, the wearer is doing something inappropriate, performing some sort of anti-utility associated with indulgence and excess. Georges Bataille wrote that coitus is "the parody of a crime". I kind of like that description. Fetishistic items like thigh boots or long leather gloves or some other sort of shiny, body hugging material also suggest a sort of liquidity, just like the gloss of full, red painted lips are considered universally sensual.

It seems apparent to me that the sensual comes from somewhere outside this material reality. Matter by itself is unable to stir any spiritual reaction or excitement of the soul, so that to believe that the most powerful sensation of pleasure known to most of mankind, not to say the animal kingdom, would originate within matter and be a faculty of this physical world seems entirely preposterous.

But the question is, where does it come from?

Despite the notion of the Underworld and "hell" as sometimes partly associated with erotic themes - in fact this has been the case in popular culture throughout human history, be it Christian or Pagan - what is known as the lower planes of the Astral obviously have nothing to do with it and do not contain this kind of "hells". On the contrary, these worlds of dusty grime and grey are essentially the very opposite of an environment conducive to pleasure, being characterized by bleakness, heaviness, anxiety, depression, fear and suffering.

On the other hand, the higher planes of the Astral appear to increasingly rule out the realm of lust and its distinct forms of qualia as well, seemingly taking on an attitude of being too "pure" and "enlightened" to allow for the slithering depravity of mere sensual debauchery and excess. So, considered the unique qualities of sexual pleasure, its distinct alien and unnatural - "sinful" - essence in comparison to human conceptions of the pure and spiritually elevated, where does it reside? Does it reside on the "wish fulfillment" planes beyond the "Earth-like worlds"? On a related note, what in the expanded cosmos of consciousness could be its root?

It would be quite rewarding I think, to partake in what people who have experienced OBE's would have to say on this matter, and how they possibly look at it.

Your generating the experience.  It can also be entrapping. I suggest you focus on higher goals.

The sensual and sexual are purely in our minds.

People learn to associate them with various parts of the body and stimulation of those areas, but if you are really self-aware of it, the entire thing transpires in your mind, and has no necessary connection to any part of the body in that way. What it really amounts to is a sort of positive feedback loop through the autonomic nervous system.

I think it is important to recognize that sexuality has been denigrated through history and various religions into being something unclean, rather than as a gift given to humanity that actually enables us to be more creative and empathetic beings.

I would disagree that sexuality is a low goal, as is almost universally believed. I would point out that Tantric Buddhists and many others have used sensuality as a path toward higher understanding and connection with  greater realities. It is one path of many. We are physical for a reason. Ever think that maybe we weren't given these bodies and their sensual character to hinder us, but rather to expand us?

Hi

Not sure I should comment on this, but last two posts sucked so heres one more..  Obe sex is more of a whole body feeling , a feeling of two energies melting into a puddle and become one warm puddle of energy. Where as pshyical sex is mostly related to the "neather gaia"  as Bernadette calls it concentrated area on the body. The genital area does have a root chakra, and to if you want to try something that I found out , think of sex before you try to obe or dream lucid, its gets the root chakra open to make juice flow upwards in the body to open up the rest of the chakras.

I was going to answer your question with a question and that was .. Do You ever "yank it" ... you can yank it all you want.. but until you close your eyes and use the mind to imagin a image infront of you that seems real to you, nothing will happen. So I see your wondering and on CNN their is a topic on the future of sex.. No Touch Involved.. so maybe you or people are onto something that we can have sex , but it comes from in a different form through energy probally from energy with in us that is tapped into something.

I tried to have sex with a spirit guide.. I begged her, but ultimately I showed respect.. Why her? she is like 100 year old lady.. why because of how my bodies energy felt towards her.. I wanted to share it with her.   Grrrrrr.. that's 3 post I have to delete.

If you're trapped in paradise, does it matter?  :-P

No, seriously, do you mean that in can be entrapping/limiting in terms of OBE destinations or that, intentionally or not, having your mind submerged in erotic visions while meditating can be blocking you from achieving an OBE? Should I, like St. Anthony in the desert, steer clear of the tempting visions of the devil's women if I aspire to get anywhere?

I would agree. So in other words, being mentally generated, or "sparked" phenomena, and then put in a physical-spiritual feedback loop, one might think it logical that the sensual comes to us from somewhere outside this material reality, from other dimensions of Consciousness/the "Astral", as it were.

I see the human physical body as such as the product of natural selection. There is no teleology either to it nor to anything else on the physical plane. As souls, we just happened to end up here, "Entworfen in der Welt", as Heidegger would put it. I do have a lot of sympathy towards the Tantric approach, however. To me sensuality looks like a good way of approaching the inner dimensions of consciousness, simply because it uses one of the strongest emotions and refining it as its method (provided I understood Tantra correctly).

Yes, I have read many referring to this "whole body feeling" and energies "melting" together when OBE sex is described. It's interesting testimony. I have two comments on it:

1) Of course, I'm not a genitalia focused person myself, neither when imagining the erotic nor experiencing it, so the "whole body feeling"/"warm puddle of energy" is probably just what I would expect in any case. In the beyond of inner consciousness dimensions, you in some sense are the environment, right?

2) I've been reading Jurgen Ziewe's Multidimensional Man and judging by his reports from the beyond, the enormous variety of these worlds seem to indicate that almost anything could be experienced in them, which by itself suggests that the erotic would have an equally endless plurality of manifestation. So in that sense, while the transgression of "the bodily"/"genital" (which is simply the frame of mind of some people in this physical state of being) might be a basic condition or state of affairs in the "Astral", one would likely imagine that "sex", for lack of a better word, could be experienced in an equally endless form of ways?

That's interesting advice. I'll keep it in mind.

Yes, "tapped into something". That's a good way of framing the supposition.

ShaktiMama talks somewhere at the site I think it's on that thread though about how she relates orgasming with kundalini and sexuality. Regardless if it answers your question it's a very interesting topic there about sexuality.
