Hello
Hopefully, this topic should help astral projection newbies to learn how to immerse them selves into the  concept of "getting- out of- the body -is possible", and obtain the mode and mindset that allows them to have frequent and easy OBEs. I went through this steps my self, and they worked for me perfectly. here you go:

1-Read, listen and watch every single shred of material you can reach about the topic. While you read a book or a novel about astral projection, you flex your "astral muscles", sharpening your astral vision and broadening your imagination borders, trying to visualize the events, characters, entities, places, smells, melodies the author/writer is talking about in his book/novel.
The same applies to listening.Focusing on the voices of both the radio show presenter and his guest, talking about OBEs and astral projections, without seeing them enhances your ability to visualize their looks, their facial expressions and even their posture.

2- Never ever watch horror movies, and don't get me wrong! not because I want you to be coward or something, but because I think such movies emit tremendous amount of negative energy, spreading fear and anger without any benefit in return.

3- Turn the astral projection topic into a firm scientific experiment, put aside all superstitions,  set a goal, write down procedures and conclusions, there's nothing to be scared of, it's just an experiment.

4- recommended OBE material:
Books:
Robert Monroe trilogy: Journeys out of body-Far journeys-The ultimate journey.
William Buhlman: Adventures beyond the body.
Albert Taylor: Soul traveler.
Luis Minero:Demystifying the out of body experience.

Youtube videos/radio shows:
Luis Minero interviews.
Robert Monroe interviews.
William Buhlman interviews.
Albert Taylor interviews.

I just thought I'd touch on some of these topics slightly.  :)

I used to be of this opinion.  I used to tell people to read as much as they could into this subject... but now I'm of a different opinion.
99% of the reading material out there is beyond horrible and does nothing but indoctrinate you into a "body" centric perspective.  It makes it harder for someone to open their mind to other possibilities.
I'd suggest just reading techniques and methods... then just practice.  Don't read too much into what others have experienced, because experience is also unique to the individual.

I watch Horror movies every weekend, usually in the mornings.  They're fun!  You are correct though in that they *CAN* cause issues... but that's only if you take in what you're seeing.  Someone can only 'get to you' if you ALLOW it to.  Negativity is like water in the ocean... the water can only sink a boat if it gets in.  Don't allow it.

Quote3- Turn the astral projection topic into a firm scientific experiment, put aside all superstitions,  set a goal, write down procedures and conclusions, there's nothing to be scared of, it's just an experiment.
That's a great point.  :)
Actually, put aside *ALL* judgments.

As I said above... focus more on techniques and methods.
What's actually more important than even that is figuring out *WHY* techniques and methods work.
I wrote an article earlier this year about how to go about designing your own, personal, unique projection technique.
http://www.unlimitedboundaries.ca/2015/01/21/design-effective-astral-projection-technique/
In it, I explain what *EVERY SINGLE* projection technique out there boils down to.  Knowing that, you can then design your own techniques to suit YOU.  :)

What an amazing review Xanth!
Thanks a lot I really appreciate your advices  :-)

In regards to "putting all judgments aside", the following image is a slide from one of Tom Campbell's lectures:

Thanks for such great "extra"  :-D

obe4life,  all your points 1-4 are great!  :-)

Especially 4: All books by Monroe and Buhlman and the ones by Minero and Taylor are often and also elsewhere "recommended readings" for OBEs. Not without a reason.

Personally, I'd add Kurt Leland, Jurgen Ziewe and a bit of Robert Bruce to the list, too. Check them out if you like. 8-)

The main thing to remember is not to "follow" any specific author line-by-line what they recommend or think or report. It's just to get a big enough picture of the whole complex (!) phenomenon and experience range of AP/OBE. And then form your own view and choose your own methods and strategies from that and go on from there (with a "scientific" mindset as you describe it correctly in (3)).

As regards Youtube you could also check out the Lucidology videos by Nick Newport. They are well done and entertaining.

Yeah, you're absolutely right Volgerle. There's no need to follow the exact same methods written in books to achieve an OBE. Just pick the one that fits with you. me myself, the W.B.T.B (wake- back to bed) is my best method to achieve both OBEs and lucid dreams, and the "roll over" technique is my most successful exit technique. In one week of experiments I had four successful OBEs out of six following those techniques. on the other hand, listening to binaural beats, meditation and guided hypnotic Youtube videos had never worked for me. BTW,  I picked my OBE techniques from watching Nick Newport's Lucidology  :-D

I've noticed that eating very healthy helps a lot.  If you can, try to only eat raw foods, fruits, and vegetables.
I've noticed for me if i can stay away from dairy, meat, and breads it will greatly increase my chances of projecting.
Another huge thing for me is meditating standing on my feet everyday.  I believe this helps charge your consciousness with energy. I usually meditate 2 times a day for 20 minutes each.  I imagine energy filling my body and feel it rushing in and out of every pore of my skin, eventually i feel a magnetic field around my body, this magnetic field is what i become conscious of when leaving my body for astral projections.

Desire is a factor. While it's good desiring for a projection, do not expect that it will trigger one. It helps to saturate your conscious mind with it, this being the result of desire. The saturation process can be of any form, like reading books and articles. but it can also be a simple thought. The more abstract the form, the more powerful it is and, it will be easier for one to forget about it. Also, it is harder to hold an abstract thought in mind but like i said, these forms are the most powerful. So, how harder to hold, how easier to forget, how more powerful. At some point one has to switch to something else. If one does this regularly, then the process of forgetting will become automatic. Projection comes about when one lets go of the conscious desire. In this way, it sinks into the subconscious part of your mind and works. In time, you will find that forgetting will go easier and you will need less saturation for it to work.

I also agree with Xanth when he says that most books focus on the body, because the works are a body. A body of concrete knowledge mostly, and one has to avoid concrete knowledge in order for the quality of the projections to increase. The best method and results follow when one turns inwards.
