Hi all, I am going to start getting into the habit of looking through my eyes.   When I start seeing things then I will know that I am getting close.   When do you start to look through your eyes.   Do you do it straight away or wait for a little while.

I practiced looking through my eyes but I was not able to keep it up for long.   Perhaps I will be able to with more practice.

I'm just a novice myself, but I've seen through my eyes it has always happened naturally. The first time was during SP, after I'd fallen sleep with my phone in my hands and the lights on. And although everything looked crystal clear and exactly as it did before I'd shut my eyes, after an intial moment of passive confusion, I sensed that my eyes were closed because my body was fast asleep. I think that passivey observing your astral sight through your eyelids without any urge or intent to keep seeing or confirm that you're seeing will lengthen the periods of time that you can see. And, of course, as you mentioned, this is a major exit sign, so if you relax and only passively observe through your eyelids and just go with the flow maybe you'll have a better chance of getting out.

Thanks for that.   That was helpful.   I will try it.

To clarify, are you trying to look 'through your eyes' as you say just for the fun of it, just for the unique feel of the experience?  Or are you trying to get a handle on it because you see it as a step in the right direction toward Phasing/OBE?  I'm new enough on the sight that I don't yet have a feel for the different levels individuals are at in their phasing/OBE experience.  So, I was just wondering your purpose.

This is something I've thought a bit about lately...
This is just a random thought I had on the subject.

Consider this for a moment that when you close your eyes and see the "blackness"... realize that you're seeing TWO COMPLETELY DIFFERENT BLACKNESSES.
Each eye sees it's own variation/version of a blackness.

Now, when you start "seeing" things... consider for a moment what that actually means.  What it means for your physical AND your non-physical experiences.

The parts of your brain that interpret the messages from your eyes are the same when you dream etc. It's here that images are produced. When deep in meditation the images you percieve are not from your physical eyes but from within. You can create images of anything you desire in a clarity that is far greater than physical sight. These are crystal clear and some practitioners of the art have already posted comments on this. On a good day I can create these with ease as can many others. The initial blackness and hazy images we see when starting our meditation are also sights in the sense that we think we're seeing something as in the physical. These are internally created and can be a hindrance when they catch your attention.
I've found that totally ignoring these speeds up the process of deepening the phase and at some point after the body has fell asleep they form full images. These are hard to ignore for a reason. You're ready to interact with them and looking at them with the intention to develop them into a full scene works as a doorway into the environment they represent. No creation is necessary, just a passive perception they are there is enough. You can manipulate them too, many times I've changed this picture before me into a moving image and it's surrounded me. This is where the environment interacts with you and your out as they say. One strange one was looking down a rocky hole to which I added water flow. Seconds later a female pot holler shouted " Are you coming then?" The experience began before I realised it lol.
Use your sight later on if phasing, it makes a difference in how long the process takes. From my early days of an hour to a couple of mins or so.
There's far more where the eye can't see.
Close your eyes and open your mind.

It's funny that I just read this thread today because last night while just relaxing and listening to a 2 hour Robert Schoch interview on the Fade to Black Radio show with host Jimmy Church, I found myself all of a sudden able to see my immediate surroundings vividly. Like one does with their eyes open. I was wearing my "sleep mask" and I wasn't actively attempting to project.

I was so deep into the conversation and totally relaxed that the visual occurred spontaneously, without warning. I was feeling mild vibrations and hearing a bit of the gentle sound of the "Astral winds" in the background. But then all of a sudden I could see all around me in every direction. I then got up and moved around, but only as a consciousness. I then left my home and went down the road to a bridge over a river near our house. All the while I still could hear exactly what Robert and Jimmy were saying on the radio show. I had a very strong dual awareness. It was quite enjoyable.  :-)

Does the dual awareness state differ from the sleeping projection in your experience? I could only dual perceive at the borderline of sleep and fleeting between focuses. Some people claim to dual experience as they walk around. Why do we normally require sleep or near sleep for this?

I think we need to "allow" our focus to change, thus creating the shift to occur. I don't think it has anything to do with sleep. Sleep is for the physical body to regenerate, rejuvenate and heal.

The dual experience does differ because when you are sleeping, you are only aware of one reality. The dual experience has you focused simultaneously on two realities at the same time.

The Tibetans' have a practice named "Tibetan Dream Yoga" whereas they stay aware the entire night as their physical vessel rests. I have had many nights where I stayed aware through the beginning stages and well into the Dream cycles. But I have never stayed aware an entire night. There were times that it felt like it though, lol!  :-D

The Dual Awareness is something that I think most frequent APers have to deal with. I pushed through it rather quickly in the early stages and it does not seem to happen much anymore. My wife gets it frequently and reports that it remains a problem for her even still, though it is just a minor issue.

My son reported this problem almost immediately when I taught him how to AP when he was about four or five years old.

I have searched for good sources on this "Tibetan Dream Yoga" practice and I have been disappointed at what was available. If you know a good source please share!

I have always wished to be able to stay aware while my body sleeps so I could make use of the full 24 hours per day. Dream Yoga sounds incredible.

If there is no direct dependency between sleep and the ability to project, can we also debunk the connection between dreams and chemical balance in the brain? My understanding is that dreams are connected to certain chemical releases - would you expect a walk-around projector to have a different chemical balance in their brain to a regular walk-around person?

@RobertForsythe

I am a little surprised that you call the dual awareness state a problem, isn't this ability something to strive towards? I thought it was a more advanced form of projection.

To be in duality constantly during the day gives messages and an uncanny knowing. When it's not present you miss it.

Yes. To be in the Lucid state 24/7 is like The Holy Grail to me. The connection to chemical processes need not be interrupted any more than an LD would interrupt this state.

It may not be a problem for those that know how to deal with it. It is a little disconcerting to feel both a projected awareness as well as body awareness at the same time. I felt like I was missing something on both sides.
