I feel that the ego takes up vast amounts of our energy and giving it less importance leaves us with extra energy for things like OBE's and other spiritual development. So, yes, I think it does help to have some humility and tolerance in our daily lives. Plus, what you do during your day, you will find yourself doing during your dreams, can't hurt to have a lot of respect venturing out there into the unknown.
