Ronaldo, once I figure out how to move posts, I'm going to move this one to the Divination and Prophecy section.

Although I've been a magicworker for years and believe in ghosts/spirits/etc., for some reason the Ouija board creeps me out.  First, you're calling on "something" to tell you "things."  Well, THAT'S a creepy request.  You are basically calling ANYTHING to you.  EW!!!! You call on "something."  Just say "something" shows up.  Then what?  What if it's lying to you in order to entertain itself?  What happens if you tell it to go and it doesn't?

Also, when you get a lot of people together working on a Ouija board you get that whole groupthink phenomena that affects how the Ouija behaves.  Which in my opinion makes the whole thing pointless.

Personally, I'd try to talk your friend out of it.  There are safer and more accurate ways to divine information for yourself.

I'm gonna try 2 talk her out of it I think it's really stupid myself thats y i'm asking u guys what u think so i can show her

Imho, with an Ouija board you need to be very specific who you want at the other end. Just calling on anyone/thing can get you into trouble.

Ronaldo,
Gotta say ditto to what the others have said about ouija boards. Apart from being sometimes fun at parties I've never heard of any good coming from them.

I grabbed this excerpt from Mayatnik's post relating to oija boards. Thought it was interesting because it makes an interesting case against them without getting all hysterical and saying they're EEEEVIIILL!:
quote:
Some people dabble with the ouija board, and I maske no bones about it – the ouija board is not a good thing to dabble with, and I would strongly urge that nobody ever does so. the reason is fundamentally to do with the fact that more than one person normally uses the ouja board, sitting in a circle with their hands held on a glass or similar as a pointer and by 'group subconscious consent' the pointer held goes to the appropriate place to spell out Y or N (Yes/No) or even a word from the laid out alphabet. It is in this 'group subconscious consent' that the problem lies with the ouja board – because each person is meant to have individual Free Will, and that will is given up to the collective minds of those present. Depending on the strength of will of each individual there is the opportunity for 'mind control' to be exerted, especially 'negatively oriented mind control – and this also leaves an electromagnetic 'imprint' on the board which will affect subsequent users and even the immediate surroundings in the area of that room, and this reinforces negativity. This is only a brief and somewhat simplified explanation of the 'astral-mechanics' of its operation – but the conclusion is clear; never give up your Free Will as an individual, so never use the ouja board !

Take care,
James.

Hi Chill,

Lets see if I can make sense of this....

The group subconscious consent -
A person with a dominant will in the group can have the greatest effect on the outcome. It rarely works in the best interests of all. It will usually work to the will of the one in the group who has the strongest motives, and their will can override that of the others, especially if they are in a state of mind that leaves them willingly exposed to being controlled by outside forces. It's not really mind control as such, just a bit of basic group psychology. Watch any group of people and there will always be one who seeks to control their actions.

This also leaves an electromagnetic imprint -
Errrmmmm....maybe not the best way to explain it. Take for example quartz crystals, used as personal crystals. It is a very old belief that if you are to buy such a crystal from a shop that you must cleanse it first, as they can be imprinted with the thoughts and emotions of those who have held it before. Quartz especially because of how it reacts around fields of energy. If not prepaired properly, it will not be receptive to your aura, or worse, detremental. Devices used in occult practices are only tools, but they can become "familiar" to the energies that use them. As such it is important that they be cleansed / prepaired for use by the user. Mayatnik's points about the Ouija board can also be applied to the pendulum as well, or any other divination device. Where an individual is involved, they can take steps to prepare the device to work with their own energy, their aura. Where a group is involved, this is virtually impossible.

Ouija boards historically have a tendancy to attract negative spirits, because the users tend not to be too discerning about the spirits they are calling on. All it takes is for one person in the group to have wrong motives, and based on idea like attracts like - negative spirits will be attracted.

Other than that, I'm of the opinion that the channeling of spirits, no matter how you wish to do it, is not something that should be done by "dabblers". It's something that should be left to those with skills and experience, or at least someone who is serious about learning the art, and has been taught the proper precautions to take.

Hope that helps Chill.

James.

P.S.
If it true that blondes have more fun, then it can't be because their dumb!
Just the opposite - to understand the vapid, tittering, shallow personalities that most men like, and play them to the hilt, requires a shrewd and cunning intelligence. [;)]

Tried a ouiji board when I was 9 or 10 I think, me and a couple of friends were all interested in that stuff then, trying telepathy and etc too aaahhh when I was a lad....ahem....(ate coal for dinner etc etc)......So yeah, well, we didnt have the proper stuff - instead we used stones in the playground, with paper for the letters, screwed up pieces of paper inside etc. I did participate once or twice, but I never let myself by the person who started it. Well the stones/pieces of paper did move around seemingly on their own, but we never got any clear answers out of it. Odd really. Always done during daytime - so maybe that helped protect us.
From what I now know, steer well clear of that dirty board!!!

I wouldn't use an ouiji board....they are demonic doorways of death and deception, allowing one to curse themself and spend the rest of thier life living in pain and agony until they die, just to end up spending eternity in everlasting pain....[xx(]
