G'day Rain is water too
I liked the Void to me it is beautiful and peaceful, without thought for the physical I wait in wonder with only the revelation that I am.
I hope your experiences in the void improve as you let go of your fears. How do you slow down I can't answer one, how to proceed with confidence read others experiences in the search menu and trust yourself.
Good luck

Ryan

I went through a similar experience, where EVERY time I fell asleep, I would either go into this abyss like place, a strange and scary dream world, or be pulled apart into thousands of tiny particles. I always felt as if there was a vast pressure crushing me and pulling me apart. I began sleeping sitting up in a chair or laying on my stomach, as this seemed to lessen the chance of me dreaming aware. Now I'm not sure I did the right thing, perhaps my fears were unwarranted. It doesn't happen nowadays, I have learned to surrender myself to the moment, and enjoy it. I always felt like I was going to die as well, but perhaps I was only going to die of fright : )

LA FORET MAUVE

That's simple. Just stop thinking that the void will kill or harm you. I'm not joking.

Spirit_k9

Wow, I haven't thought about the void for quite a while. (months anyway)

If you encounter it again, which you may, try using it instead of building up a fear for it. You won't die from the void, and you'll only go 'crazy' if you can no longer rationalize within the bounds of your situation.

I found it peaceful. I also found that there's more than one 'place' you can consider 'the void'. I discovered several other things too....  what you think of as a void might only be so because you aren't 'seeing' what it really is. Consider it.  When in a void you tend to fill it with things that may be parts of you, or emanations from you. (fear) You could make the void a terrible place, or you could try to discover your way through it.

The good stuff is just ahead ;-)

LA FORET MAUVE

the problem of fearing the void is that could make you becoming a born again christian...be careful ! [:D]

Fat_Turkey

My guess is that you are probably Christian, as a lot of Christians preach that silencing the mind is bad for you. The void, as I've read about, is perfectly good for you, and the fact that you've gotten there quickly is actually an astounding achievement!

No amount of rigorous training, sitting and doing nothing, and clearing one's mind can help a man who hasn't overcome his doubts.

Fear of anything will only hinder your progress. You must learn to not fear, overcome your fears. The only thing to fear is fear itself.
Alice had got so much into the way of expecting nothing but out-of-the-way things to happen, that it seemed quite dull and stupid for life to go on in the common way.

there are 2 stages of mind:
-THE PURE MIND=CLEAR OUT OF thoughts,Mind that cuts like a sword,
-and mind made out of the thoughts=ego.

the Void likes the pure mind.

the only thing that you can lose is your ego(view of yourself)
you cannot dirigate your own PROGRESS.
(from your known position of the PROGRESS)

Grow up allready.

Dear Rain man,

I once went to the void, the dark place and I did not know what it was. Let me tell you. I was dreaming and in the dream there was a mirror and when I looked in the mirror I realized it was all a dream (this often happens as I cannot see my reflection in the mirror). As soon as I realized that it was not real but just a dream, the dream vanished (puff!) and I was left alone, in the dark, silent place - the void if you want, with only my very own thought. I had no feeling of my body, my limbs, no breathing, no heart beat, I could not sens anything, just my mind! So I decided to wake up from there. I start looking for that feeling of my body, to move my arms, my legs, to turn around in my bed.. BUT I COULD NOT! that's where I became like you. Fear engulf me that I could not reach my physical self again. It lasted only a few seconds, and then I finally woke up. But these few seconds were terrible. I completely understand you. It all happened a long time ago (maybe 15 years ago?), but it was such a 'strong' experience that I never forgot. From my understanding when we sleep (dreaming), or when trying to OBE (and say meditating) our body goes into a 'mode' which is to be disconnect from the world. These are physical terms here (no metaphysical). This is the natural way our body does while we are asleep. From there, from lucid dream, people are able to OBE. I understand that in that void place you can 're-create' the dream world, go back to dreaming, or lucid dreaming, or OBE, you just need to wish so, the power of your will will take you there - your mind will create the dream for you. The problem is that I did not try that, I tried to wake up from deep sleep, and it took a little while to wake up, so that I was left with my consciousness but my body was deep asleep and I did not use my will to go back to the dream, the opposite I denied the dream when I realized what it was. When I woke up I felt like waking up from a nightmare, I needed to drink water and breath fresh outside air.

I haven't been in that place (void) again. I tried to OBE more recently and I succeeded a few times. Othere experiences with lucid dreaming have not been very successfull, rather very unpleasant. In another lucid dream I asked the starry night sky to reveal me the future and for answer I got a fear/anxiety engulfing me. Again as I woke up I felt like from a nightmare - very unpleasant situation. But from the awake state to go into OBE I found it much nicer and pleasant. If this was to happen today (to get into the void) I believe that I would not fear it, I would just wait, or make a wish, ... or try to OBE and what would probably happen is that before I succeed to OBE I would wake up I guess.

I hope this help! Take it easy! Cheers [:)]

Ever read Eckhart Tolle's "The Power of Now"?  I have the audio book and have listened to it maybe 7 times.  Eckhart prefers the word "Being" to use of the word "God", (the latter being bogged down in millenia of misuse), and he also refers to this Being/state of Being as "no-thing."  (Maybe you've noticed how people like to put hyphens between syllables these days--it draws attention to meanings within words.)  Your "true self" is a part of the "no-thing".  It is not of form, which is illusion.  Englightenment, in Tolle's use of words, is awakening from your "mind", or ego-centeredness.  But this ego  is extremely slippery and will do all kinds of things to keep from losing its ego-centricity. (There's another one of those hyphens!)  Like maybe making you afraid of The Void, afraid of the state of "no-thing"?

In Gerald O'Donnell's remote viewing and remote influencing tapes, http://www.mindsafari.com/
, there are points where the listener, (after having been carefully brought to a Theta mind state), is told such things as "You are the light!" and "You are the void!"  And one is told, as one is led to expand and to become this light, this void, to let it go to infinity, etc., etc.  I've been a bit puzzled how, in the intro to the R.V. course, the listener is told about how very few in history have managed to reach the Delta state and sustain that, and in fact it seemed a bit spooky to even consider it, yet in the R.I. course one is supposedly brought to the Delta level fairly easily.  (Others might say, "Ya, well, you do this every night when you fall into deep sleep."  But I'm talking about sustained consciousness within Delta, here.)

It just seems kind of ironic to me to have been exposed to all this "you are the void!" stuff, (not that I've come away with that experience, mind you), and here is someone terrified of....the void?  (Was it really the void?  Or was it the supposed "Lord, your creator" that Robert Monroe encountered and responded to with amusement, in his 3rd and final book, "Ultimate Journey"?)  Anyway, just some food for thought.

Hello all, I have had a handfull of experiences in the void, from what I gather so far, the void seems to be a place where one can access all dimensions both upper and lower, I have demanded to go to places in the void, I remember feeling cool air (?) blowing around me, than the place i demanded to go to slowly come to view, all amazing stuff, i felt no fear in the void at all.

Peace

Yes, the 'void' is very well known to those of the Monroe school ilk
(refered to as focus 12)

I prefer to use the term '3d blackness'; this is usually experienced when meditating or using hemi-sync. Basically, the 2d blackness in front of your eyelids (providing its dark of course!) becomes 3 dimensional and you find yourself floating in a peaceful black void.
'Monroe school' types tend to view the '3d blackness' state as the 'bridge' between your own mind and the astral; its where the two meet. As such it allows you to go anywhere you want in the astral given the right intent.

Btw, the 3d blackness state does not have to be empty; as it is where your mind and the astral meet, you can influence it to a great extent. eg next time you are there imagine your favourite piece of music; you will actually hear it all around you in fantastic dolby 5.1000000000!

To use the 3d blackness as an astral bridge: once there, you just place intent to go to some specific astral region and you will see some swirling coloured patttern in the 3dblackness. Concentrate on these and they will form into a 3d 'astral screen' (focus22) which you can then enter to visit that realm.

Of course, quite often people who reach the focus 12 (void/3dblackness) level prefer not to do anything and just drift in a nice peaceful state, just contemplating things, or nothing at all and as I said, you can choose to do this with your favourite piece of music playing all around you, in a way you've never experienced before (note: I wouldnt recommend 'deth metal' tunes for this one ;-)

Nice as this is though, eventully you will tire of this and want to get to the astral proper to do some work!

To sum, Rain's post is a straighforward case of fear completly twisting what should be a very pleasent and fun experience into something horrific; which is easy to say but not so easy if you encounter this with no idea what the hells going on;
I agree that conventional christian 'wisdom' doesnt help matters here and only leads to situations like Rain's.

Rain_ my advice: get back there again and learn to enjoy it!

Regards,
Douglas

My first visit to the Void was MOST unpleasant, because I had no idea what happened, and I was full of fear.

Then, I started living all these lives.  They seemed to last a whole lifetime.  Then I would wake up, still in the Void, freak out, and then live another life.

This happened a couple of times, and then it occurred to me that I would be stuck in this Void for Eternity.  I mean, Eternity with a Big E. This brought me huge despair.

After my freak-out despair subsided, I was still in the D*MN VOID!
So, I thought, ok, I'm stuck here for eternity, I might as well design a nice life for myself and live it out.  The problem was, I couldn't figure out what I wanted!  So I blipped from one scenario to another, never quite accomplishing anything.

The Void then faded from my consciousness and I thought D*MN, the Void is like real life.  If I can't figure out what I want here, I'll never figure it out THERE.

Or, is it the other way around?

As above, so below!

are you sure you-ALL discuss THE SAME VOID????
some of you discuss about another realities,
some of you-the Astral state,
some of you the pure dark,
some of you -visit to the Abyss!!
perhaps One of you have been into the Void,
but how?-you do not differe NOTHING from NO-THING.
What do you all feel? LEFT OUT? THAT YOU HAD TO HAD EXPERIENCE IN THE VOID? THE VOID is state of no-mind, far beyond creation of the Matrix-egg.
our human brain cannot process the Experience outside of mind(far beyond Brain)
How come you all have memories?

explain your ideas about the differences:

Abyss
Pure Dark
Astral State
Void

I know nothing about this Void place-have been having APs and OBES for about 20 years and cant ever recall a void?  I know if you feel fearful you will create a manifestation of that fear when you AP-

now I know why shadowdancer is allways refering to you-Namaste.
are you 2-friends?
-let's not discuss about dark!

Um-I dont think Shadowdancer is referring to me-namaste-is a term in yoga....for the record.[:(!]

abyss is double-reality. it is represented by the material law of Entropy falling in time. only matter/time forces E=MCsquare(flat Universe)
abyss is the place of paralel worlds.
between you have N-O-T-H-I-N-G. but time is passing!

pure dark is the state of allmost-absolute stillness(meditative state)

astral is the deepest unconsciouss level.
especially! around the Earth!
first matrix is our matterial One,
astral is the second (egg).

Void is state of pure Energy: no matter, no-thing
that is called 'abstract' in art.
mental mind cannot Enter -there. only the pure One.
In void there are no worlds.
only Energy.(not Energy strings, like in our matrix-Universe cosmic egg where abyssot is, -where time and nothing Exists!)

please, corect me.
the problem is, I think in English, and I am using the most adequate words for the Expresion of my Experiences,
but, I am here to learn how to write them!
I am getting better, don't I?

for Instance, AI means 'eye' and 'I' and it is-in egyptian.
like 'I see!' in english or AIRA in egyptian=all-seeing 'I'(eye)

it is more clear in any phonetical language.
(and the last phonetical language is -serbish!)

I accidentally (almost everything I did was an accident [:D]) entered the void about a year ago, before I knew anything about it, and I... did not have an enjoyable time. I didn't know what was going on! I might approach it differently next time, now that I'm a bit more knowledgable on the subject.

TheSeeker

I'm interested to hear how you know that a lot of people died from developing spiritually too fast, I've never heard of such a thing.
