Jenadots and Clandestino,

I had seen this book before on the shelf but never bought it. I think I'll pick up a copy after work today though. It sounds like it will be a good read. Thanks!

Hi there folks !

Nick, if you do read it and enjoy it, try reading the "interview with Paulo coelho" book (I can't remember the title). The guy leads a very interesting life !!
best wishes

Hello,

Indeed, the book The Alchimist of P. Coehlo is a very entertaining book to read! I read it some years ago, and I remember I really enjoyed it.

Clandestino,

Thanks for the tip regarding the interview of the author. I did a search and I believe this must be the book:

Paulo Coelho: Confessions of a Pilgrim.
by Arias, Juan.
Publisher: Thorsons
"These conversational-style interviews with Paul Coehlo cover: Paulo's being institutionalized as a young man for his artistic leanings; his kidnapping and torture by paramilitaries; his experiences with Black Magic and drugs; and his views on the nature of writing and the spiritual quest."

It looks good!

Greetings Clandestino,

Many thanks friend. I very much appreciate the offer, however a copy has been ordered and will soon be on its way to me from Barnes & Noble online.  [:)] Take care.

This is one of my favorite books.  The story is so simple and yet it packs in so many great lessons about life.

I just heard that he has sold the movie rights and it will be made into a major motion picture, starring Madonna, of all people!  Yes, - I'm pretty sure I heard that right!  That seems weird to me in that there really isn't a large female role in it, and it seems cheesey to me because almost every movie Madonna makes bombs!

Hmmm.  Anyway, - great book!

yeah, the female role in the alchemist isn't too big....

but when you think about the story, there's nothing specifically "male" or "female" about the lead character anyway, so perhaps madonna will take that role ?

...yep, madonna's track record in movies isn't too hot. Lets hope she turns it around.

Hi,
Yes it is a really great book, I avoided it for years for whatever reason and picked it up in a second hand bookshop. I started to read it one night and couldn't stop until I'd finished.[:)]

This wonderful little novel by the Portuguese writer tells a story that is both adventure and a spiritual search to find one's personal legend.  My senior students - all pretty jaded inner city kids -- fell in love with the story and we then spent some time working on their own personal quests.

It is a quick, good summer read.  A good beach or plane book as you follow the adventures of the young man who meets up with an Alchemist.

Enjoy.
