Cool! Now I have tried to "get up" out of my body when this happens, but when I think about trying, the feeling goes away and I just go to sleep disapointed. What do you suggest I do next?

Most people experience vibrations humming through their body right before they project. Perhaps you're not 'deep enough'. Or maybe you just need to initiate the vibrations, if that's the case, try my method:

In either case, you must be in the mind awake/body asleep state in order to have an OBE. Are you able to move your body at all? Could you describe the state you reach in more detail? You were kind of vauge.[;)]

I will be in bed, laying on my back. I close my eyes. Sometimes the feeling comes on its own, but if it dosn't I just imagine myself falling or picture my body moving back and fourth. Once I get this to happen it seems that my body becomes very long and it feels like my legs and arms are not there. I also get the feeling that there is a wall or something right in front of me when my eyes are closed. Sorry I wasn't that descriptive eariler. I was just really excited that I found this site and wanted to see if what I was experencing could be or turn into an OBE [:D]

For me the vibrations were essential. I sort of used my jaw to "tune"
them. I just can't induce them to begin whenever I want.

Another thing that happens less often......I will be 75% asleep and 25% awake, and I wake up to my body jolting, and it feels like I just fell from the sky back into my bed/body. Anyone else experence this, or should I just go see a doctor?[:P]....lol

chunk,

You're definately feeling the beginning stages of an OBE when you feel that "wavering" feeling.  My advice is:  don't try to get out right then. Just let that feeling take control of you.  I find that if you try too hard to direct yourself at that point you can easily lose it.

thechunk05,
i just wanted you to know tha i am having the same sort of experiences. Like, for instance, the other night i was relaxing and i was on the verge of falling asleep[|)] when i started to focus my mind on projecting. I can remember that i could not feel me but i knew i was far from projecting when all of a sudden i just jolted violently[:O]! I can't explain why,(i was hoping someone here could help me).
But this is my advice to you, Keep trying. It will come soon enough. So Don't get discouraged. [;)]
Hanve fun :)

Chunk, I think you said a key thing here.  You said, "when I think about trying, the feeling goes away."

From my experience, that is the number one killer of OBE experience... When we TRY to make things happen.  We TRY to induce the vibrations.  We TRY to move our astral arms, etc.

At least from my perspective, we can't really DO a whole lot, EXCEPT set the tone for a projection.  What do I mean by this? Imagine pushing a bowling ball up the side of a hill.  It takes YOU, the conscious awake person, a concerted effort to push this ball up the hill.  At first, it may seem like the hill is never ending, and that all you ever do is push.

However, once you get to the top, you find that the bowling ball will roll down the other side on its own.  You don't have to help it.  You don't have to keep pushing.  All you did was bring it to that threshold where it could take over on its own.

See the analogy?  Using me as an example, my waking conscious mind works on relaxing my body, drawing energy through my chakras, and PREPARING myself to have an OBE.  Once you get your mind and body to a certain state, you need to be PASSIVE, let go, and just allow the subconscious to navigate the rest of the way.  If you can do this without breaking consciousness, then you're better than I am!  Usually what happens with me is that I will lose consciousness (either for a split second or for a few hours in sleep) and then SNAP back to an altered state of awareness.  In this altered state, I have an inner sense that tells me I can separate, or phase, into this other "world."

Guys_
Just so you know, that jolting sensation is quite common with me. In fact as far back as I can remember I have experienced that sensation sometimes, just as I am falling asleep.
Sometimes it can be so sudden its painful!

Thanks for all the info![:D] BTW....could the jolting sensation be your astral body falling back into your regular body?

I just have to say that this is EXACTLY the stage that I am at as well.  You are lucky because, disappointedly, very few have answered my forum concerning this exact question, so I am grateful that you have posted this question.  When I finally reach the mind awake/body asleep stage (usually just after or just before one hour) my body feels like it sways from side to side.  Often it will go away and come back a few times, but it is most powerful when I don't recognize or think about it.  A common suggestion that I have recieved is that once this stage occurs, no longer concentrate on anything other then staying concious.  If you ignore the sensation and focus on one thing only, such as breathing, and let your subconcious do what comes natural (ie- fall asleep) then the vibrations will come.  Right now I haven't yet felt the vibrations but I have been trying for quite a few years, and the swaying motion is as close as I have come, so I feel this is a huge step in achieving an OBE.  I have found without a doubt (though much more difficult) that it is SO much easier to reach this stage in the morning just after you awake.  When you wake up, read a chapter in a book, or go get a drink, go to the bathroom, etc.  Something that you can do while still in a "dreamlike state" that takes little time so that when you practice your body will still be relaxed from all those hours of sleep, but your mind will be awake from what you just did.  I hope that makes sense.  Anyways, you are definately not alone at this stage.  I am exactly where you are and am struggling with where to go from there... but I'm sure if we keep practicing we will find the answer and reach the next step.  Good luck!

TorosDead

By the way, I just got a letter from Rober Bruce who informed me that the jolting sensation is most likely the astral body returning after a projection.  All it takes is a slight slip in conciousness, like drifting to sleep for a moment, and the astral is free.  Then when you realize you are asleep and bring yourself back, the astral returns with not memory of it occuring.

thechunk05

Quite often when I am relaxed, whether it be duuring the day or at night, I get a feeling like by whole body is moving back and fourth or up and down. I don't see anything moving and my body is not physicaly moving, but it feels like it is. Is this the first stage of an OBE?
