physical is the start.
the skill.
you cannot do magic, WITHOUT SKILLS!

MAGIC POWERS ARE A GIFT.
magic ability is more true.
and forever.(after the death)

mental is only for the lowest users/loosers.

I practice killing=NINPO.
craft,
cooking.
and making a good coffee!

LIAR! You drink tea!  I make the best coffee in the world.  I challenge THEE to a duel!

A physical practice is absolutely necessary if one plans to work magic.   Magical work causes enormous strain on the physical body, if you are actually DOING something and creating effect.

Also, should you make a collossal mistake, you need the strenth to survive the blow.

Fat, out-of-shape "magicians" make me laugh, in a kind way, not a mean way, because they just don't understand!  Magic is not about reading books and waving a wand.  It's about making real change in this world.

I suppose a paraplegic could still do magic.  But he'd be at a serious disadvantage.

I dance (ballet, mideastern, hispanic, anything) and do yoga.

Can you Salsa (I think that is right), Tisha? I always wanted to learn that.
Alice had got so much into the way of expecting nothing but out-of-the-way things to happen, that it seemed quite dull and stupid for life to go on in the common way.

sorry . . . I've got the "beat" . . . but no partner.

Namaste,
For me, it was only until i found a physical discipline that my magick moved from the skeletal realms of intellectualism into something with a heartbeat.

there were 2 men on the west that started teaching 'brain anatomy':
Osho Rajneesh and Ouspensky(sect-master)
WITHOUT ANY PHYSICAL ENGAGEMENT!
only flowers!
both of them were the students of G I Gurdjieff, who begun their training through PHYSICAL SUFI DANCES.
after those 2 Idiots, the west was filled with YOGA-INSTRUCTORS
who only teach poetry for the mind.

not even Esotheric-theory!
especially that cult of personality-like worm-Sai Bubba has
"thought" to his little worms or followers of his dog-religion.
like flies on the butt of the cow.

the Question stands:
and everybody have chosen:

SKILL or a FAITH!
CAT or a dog.

Liber AL: II:45!

who needs Yoga?
that is only a brain-phenomena.
like TV-network!

For any mental/intelectual/spiritual activity for SURE the health of the physical body will have some influence on the result of your practice. A healthy spirit in a healthy body (in corpore sana). I have done some Yoga, though not much. I have done many years of Shotokan (karate) and at a given level it sure helps. First it helps you to feel self confident of course, but also it helps you to stand straight (as many people do not, the position of the upper body really affect your psychic), to stand firm on your feet, it helps you to look at the world without focusing on one point in particular but rather trying to see the whole picture (especially true when you are attacked by many oponents from different directions), it helps you "advance" forward with the center of gravity of your body (belly button) rather than with your feet, etc.... And sure it keeps you in shape. That helps you to release stress, and to sleep better at night and to feel even better during the day.

So, whatever you are doing (playing guitar, OBE, solving a math problem, drawing architectural designs,...) you will perform better if you are in shape and are practicing a physical activity... sure a physical activity that involves also your concentration will even help more.

that means only- that Shotokan is not complete as well as Yoga!
there cannot live One without the other.
NINPO IS COMPLETE.

Why engage in something that is not complete?
to be an Amateur-all your life?

Tisha

oh, POOH.  Amateur is fine.  You don't need to be a master, or a professional.  In fact, it's probably better for your ego never to become a "master."  The whole point is the SKILL.

Dance did more for me than the obvious (i.e., power, balance, flexibility).  Some of the more interesting skills I learned, and applied to my magical practice:

how to walk silently across a wooden stage in point shoes (SILENCE)
how not to be seen (STEALTH)
how to spin for a long time without vomiting (very handy on the astral realms)
how transfix-enthrall-cast a spell!
transmutation of sexual energies
how to do a hip drop, chest circle, while traveling, holding a veil, and playing finger cymbals (MULTITASKING in TRANCE STATE)
musical interpretation (EMBODIMENT)

etc.!

Namaste,
My journey really started with the works of Crowley.  Through time, I have learned some hatha yoga and it changed my life.  Unlike my studies with Crowley and various other ceremonial magick systems, yoga and meditation seemed to give life to much of the elaborate mental systems i had developed.  For me, a physical discipline is essential now for health and well-being, and very much enhances any ceremonial or ritual magickal work.  Anyone else?
