Practice. [:D]

Personally, I find the mind awake/body asleep (Monroe Focus 10) to be very annoying for meditation.  I find that a deeper level (Focus 12) is better for meditation.

[EDIT] Woot!  First edit! :P

I copied http://www.monroeinstitute.org/ for these descriptions.  The offer tapes and CDs that you can help you reach these states.  Like the nova dreamer, they are not cheap.  The first wave will get you to focus 10 which is the most common one used for OBEs.

Focus 10
mind awake, body asleep

Focus 12
expanded awareness

Focus 15
no time

Focus 21
other energy systems  (AKA The Void at the start of the Astral Plane)

Focus 22 -
where humans still in the physical have partial consciousness, remembered as dreams, deliria, and patterns induced through chemicals;

Focus 23 -
inhabited by humans who have recently exited physical existence and have not adapted to such change;

Focus 25 -
the Belief System territories where those who have exited the physical are residing in a particular belief system;

Focus 27 -
the Reception Center, Way Station, or Park, designed to ease the trauma and shock of the transition out of physical reality, and to assist those there in evaluating options for their next steps in growth and development.

I have experienced Focus 15 in meditation,

A very happy place, but a very odd feeling in the beginning.

Ah the wonders of meditation!

I find that I normally meditate for about 20-30 minutes.  I have done it for 1 hour, but that was once and boy what a feeling.  It takes me about 20 minutes to induce the "dead body" trace.  Basically when your body goes completly heavy.  Thats a good feeling. Although I need to go for longer, because I still haven't gotten my OBE!  Good luck!!!

I can not meditate for long periods of time because of the family. I would try it in bed but thats when I try AP.

For me, meditating and trying to AP is the same thing.  At night, when I would like to AP, I start by meditating, which is nothing more than quieting the mind while achieving a relaxed state.  At least, that is how I define meditation!

From there, you're going in the same direction as most OBE/AP techniques.

Any of you guys have trouble with, how should I put this gently...overactive minds and meditation? And have something that worked?

Arcane

I normally find that i lose track of time.
Last time i only meant to be 20 mins but i actually ended up coming back to reality after about an hour.

Ermmm. there are different styles of meditation using very diffrent techniques and pursuening different goals. most meditation techniques can not be done proper if one is lying in bed! cause one would loose concentration. Mediation is not only calming the mind but mindfully observe it without loosing "sharpness".
I meditate 1hours daily, with a bit practice evrybody can do that, all you need is a reasonable quiet place, time and the will to do it. i think most people are able to provide oneself with these conditions

Last time I meditated, there was a T.V. going on upstairs. I ignored it.

I can not do it in bed because I would sleep.

Van-Stolin

I have been able to do it for 30 minutes at least.  I was trying to AP at the time and when I wasn't getting anything I had to go to sleep.

I started regular meditation last summer when I was bored riding the train to work. Lots of random noise and people sometimes bumping into me. Very hard to maintain concentation... However, now when I do I can go as deep as light paralysis in all the commotion without much trouble. It was really nice to see the difference after quite a while of not mediating on the train. =)
My suggestion: When you're bored; meditate. [:D]

I am new to meditation only 22 days and the first day i meditate for 1 hour. The others the same and i thought i wasn't meditate a lot so i force my self for more, so i meditate for 1 hour and a half.
After that i can't go more becuase i fell my body heavy,dead like and so calm that i fell like, don't know how to explain it right, like Total calmnes and feeling detached from my body (not floating).
Is this a state of meditation? If so which one?

Ceriel N

Forcing should not be a part of meditation. Rather one relaxes the body to let the mind concentrate on whatever it is you want to meditate on. Meditating on nothingness is mostly for learning to concentrate / control one's mind.

Thats a common behaviour if one starts to meditate. One forces it and after a couple of weeks you get bored cause you think it's too exhausting and it takes too much time. Be carful about forcing your mediation too much. It's better to meditate 40minutes daily for 10years then 2 hours a day for two month.
The state you describe. Basically it sounds right to me. the most impotant thing is that your mind is fully alert. Is your mind fully awake when you mediate?
Should your mind be calm? One day he's calm one day he's not thats how it will be. There is no certain feeling that one must get during meditation. just  mindfully observe what happens.
