Meditating positions

I sit in a recliner most of the time.  I have found that I need to be fully supported as my body will not allow me to meditate if it needs to support itself.  I also tend to cover myself with a blanket and use pillows to adjust where my arms are or head and such.
If I do not do this and meditate siting up I get stuck, really stiff and it becomes almost painfull to move.

Hey Cainam,

Thanks for your response.

The thing is, aswell as getting a sore neck, sometimes when I'm meditating, my leg will kick involuntarily, this happens when I'm sitting in an arm chair. With both of my legs dangling over an arm of the chair, I'll be meditating and then all of a sudden, one of my legs will just kick up, and snap me out of it. It feels as if someone has pushed or pulled it up really quickly.  I have two theories for this, one is that perhaps blood isn't circulating properly and can't get to my leg, and my body makes my leg kick up, so that the blood can flow properly. The second is, maybe theres a spirit who is doing it. But I think the first theory is proberly the one thats right.... but who knows.

Anyway, I dont get a sore neck when Im meditating in the chair like that, but other ways I've tried, I've gotten a sore neck or just haven't been too confortable.

Actually the leg and arm spasims are normal.  They happen to every one.  I get them a lot as well and like I said I am normally fully suported head to toe.   Some one told me it is some thing that just happens as the body is letting go.  It is one of the last signs that the body is becoming relaxed.  You may do well to support your legs on something so that the jerk does not feel as violent.  With the leg dangling I could see how it would be some what greater because there is nothing to stop it or for it to rest against, plus the angle would have some thing to do with it as well.  Mine are not as bad since my legs are normally fully extended, so it is more of a twitch.  But with the leg bent would probably be more like a kick.  Some times certain parts will do a flutter type thing as well.  Many pulses in a few seconds, then it stops and that area seems to just go numb.
I would advise against resting in a position where you could cut off blood flow though.  From a medical stance it could cause internal damage to various parts when the blood is not getting there.  Another reason your should do some thing to take the weight off the leg.

Hey, thanks again,

I don't really have weight on my legs, and I am quite comfortable, which is partly why I didn't think I was right when I thought it could be the blood not being able to flow. I guess I'll just have to keep trying out different positions until I find one that I'll be content with.

Hi everyone,

I was wondering, what positions do some of you meditate in?

Because I get a sore neck sometimes in a couple different positions that I meditate in, so I was wondering what works well for others?

Thanks,
Oliver
