It is maybe a person who is modest enough to acknowledge that she/he knows for sure only one thing, and that thing she/he knows it well. It might be a person who do not want to commit her/himself about many things, things that have not been proven to be true. It is just a way of speaking, you should not pay that much attention to it. Sometimes a person knows a lot about only one thing, and it might be good to listen to her/him.

So I don't think you should take it too seriously.... that 's the domain of philology, the science of the language/speaking/thinking.

Taking it seriously or not, its still a stupid phrase. Is what you said true about this?: "Goats excrete multiple turds at once." "All I know is I dont want to stand behind a goat."

They could add "I know I dont want to stand behind a goat" to their resume. They should advertise their best knowledge.

Hey Beavis -

Right on man!  I agree with you that we have some phrases that we've gathered, tarnished, reproduced, lather, rinse, repeat.  Such as
"I could care less"

We all think somehow that means you don't care.  Well, you're actually saying you care some, but it is possible to care even less.  But you do care.  This came from "I couldn't care less"

And what about our complimentary phrases?!  I was sitting in Geosystems today after a test thinking about the phrase "Thank You".  What does it even mean?  "I give my thanks to you?"  What are thanks?  I think it came from thanksgiving... but anyway...it's all about these phrases we invent and even make up new words for it all.  Makes no sense.

You know what bugs me even more is misspellings of common words... The one I see the most often these days is "loose" and "lose".  Loose means it is not secure, and may fall off.  Lose means gone.  You lost it, therefore it is not there.  Please (not pls or plz) try to see that... bugs the crap outta me.

And what does that phrase mean?!

Only the smartest of smart people would use that phrase. They could have said "I know..." but choose to add "all" which changes the meaning to "I know... but dont know anything else". Should I consider the opinion of a person who only knows 1 thing?
