I have done this technique before, but I have not had success with this method. The only way your going to damage your eyes is if you are dead up on the flame u should be a good 3-5 feet away from the flame.[][][][][][][]

I recommend this book "Ancient Teachings for Beginners" By Douglas De Long. It is very detailed and teaches more than opening one chakra.You can get it for 10.00 at Barnes and Noble. I have opened my "Third Eye" chakra, and I did not need no candle.You will know when it is opened by the sensations felt in your head i.e. pressure,tingling etc.... I actually opened mine by trying to A.P. and the book just help me with better ways of opening all of my chakras.It is well worth the 10.00!I will say if you are a religous person and are easily offended to be prepared.It also teaches A.P. ,How to read Auras, and how to contact Angels and your spirit guides. First, watch an episode of Inuyasha on Cartoon Network. I believe it's on at 12:00 A.M. Pacific

For some reason one night I saw two colors pushing against each other when I was trying to get to sleep. It seemed like the Wind Scar in Inuyasha. So I sat back and watched it, and when it formed a rift, I thrust my consciousness through it, opened my eyes and saw raw energy all around me. Only thing I could say was hell yeah! It was pretty cool, but after a while I couldn't see it that much any more. Oh well. Hope it helped.

Here's a claimed technique to enable auric vision.  Basically, forces you to SEE WITH YOUR PERIPHERAL VISION and use both eyes equally.

One of my Taijiquan teachers also achieved enlightenment by staring at 2 counter-directional Taiji circles for like months...or years?  Anyways, the same concept of seeing with your peripheral vision, perhaps?  So, maybe that's the trick?  [?]

When I look at the combination of those 2 (middle image), it changes from red to blue or blue to red every 1.8 seconds (on average). Do you see that? How fast does your brain switch sides?

I don't seem to really switch...  just that, once in a while, the cyan circle would become full, or it would fade to white completely...

Hey y'all, read the website for a more complete explanation of the exercise.  But basically, it's supposed to simultaneously exercise your peripheral vision and balance your left/right brain functioning (as well as sell his "special" T-shirts, lol..).

Anyways, seeing as how a monitor has a refresh rate, I don't know if that might affect your results.  If so, perhaps better to print it out and stare at it on a wall or something.  But, it does seem to have a soothing energizing effect, regardless. [:O]  Takes a lot of concentation tho, but hopefully would get easier with practice?  YOU BE THE JUDGE - and report back to the rest of us!

I know, hmmm, a way of closing your 3rd eye - try using it with selfish purpose. It surely works, but it will be really hard to open it again. [xx(]

I wouldn't ever do this, but if it is really so terrible as you describe it, you could try making a girl want to sleep with you (with the help of your 3rd eye). I WOULD NOT DO THIS! Try to work out sth selfish that wouldn't do any practical damage, but will cause "lack of energy" to this chakra.

Do the colors matter? Will it still work (if it does) if I print it out in black and white. (I imagine there will be a slight difference.

I think black and white could be better for this excersize for beginners, since the colors from the auras can be unsettling, inhibiting progress. I suggest you try it, then move on to the colored image after you've mastered making a cross. Tell us if it works!

Very interesting you said that, because in almost everywhere i never readed anything like that, about that it's not recommended to use the 3rd eye to do "selfish" things, i already knew one about the throat chakra, that when we tell lies, that chakra becomes more inactive or blocked, but about "selfish" things i need more details, what happens if a person uses the 3rd eye to do "voyerism" (with remote view or clairvoyance, or even with remote presence in real time) ? That is also considered "selfish" also ? That thing of doing selfish things making the third eye closed, can seem some kind of god manisfation ! Before using the 3rd eye there is a way to know which things are "ok" to do without making that close the 3rd eye ? Like, using intuintion it's possible to know which things we should do or not do with the 3rd eye without making it close ? I hope so. Hum... now i understand why in some websites they say that when trying to develop psychic abilities we should be pure of heart... don't tell me that a psychic should also follow the ten commandments of the bible to not happen that kind of closing of chakras... Is this true ?

I'm afraid thats just a afterimage(the picture) kinda like when you stare at a light for a while. If you move your eyes and the image follows then it is just a afterimage =)

Thats not the point I was trying to make here. I think anyone with half a brain already knows thats an after image, the fact is that it gives you something to look at with your eyes closed, a fixed point. If you move your eyes and discontinue to stare, the after image is going to become harder to see for a moment. I guess all it really does is provide a visual marker for you to focus your eyes better.

You are the only one who can consider what is selfish and what is not for you. It depends on you only. The more selfish you get, the more you feel the lack of energy and the centre is getting "darker" (figurative speaking). That is what I've learned from my qi gong master and consider might be useful for you.

Selfish - Caring supremely or unduly for one's self; regarding one's own comfort, advantage, etc., in disregard, or at the expense, of those of others.

Hi,

I'm new to this. When focosing on the second figure, when the crosses are about half way i start loosing concentration and blinking. Then when I persist I hear a very loud humming noise in my head and my eyes close by themselves. Should I keep trying? Is this normal?

I tried the methode with the candle right now, i starred my sight for 2 or 3 minutes on a flame that i have lited right now on a candle and then closed my eyes and tried to feel something different or open my third eye... when i opened my eyes i looked at the flame and started to see a big light with a lot of colors especially green colors, anyway its not what is surprizing me... i am surprized because the afterimage i have seen was not a normal afterimage.. it was like a spot of shadow.
it was very wierd i don't know how to wxplain it more clearly i hope some of you knows what i mean by this and can help me find it out.

About 4 or 5 years ago I came across a website (I think, maybe it was abook),  there was a sound technique I tried out, but I can't really remember how it went. It was something like humming a certain sound in a particular way for a measured amount of time each day.[?]
Sorry about the vagueness[)] I thought someone else might be able to shed some light on the technique.
It was meant to exercise your pineal gland to help open your third eye chakra and it seemed to be working. I had tingles in my forehead and a throbbing sensation further back. I've recently talked to someone else who has used this technique and had similar outcome.

Anyone else tried it who can describe it a bit better?
