This is the time of year I take out the photos of friends, family and pets who have died; rededicate my magic, and prepare to go into the Dark (winter).   It's a little bit different every year.

I thought it was called "All Saints Day" Maybe I am wrong...? I know that all saints day is nov. 1, according to Mexican Catholisism.

All saints day was once a pagan celebration, Halloween is an old word turned into an english word. It originally meant eve of ghosts, I dont know the literal translation because my irish (gaelic) isn't up to scratch. Oiche is gaelic for night or eve pronounced eeha.
All Saints day is the day after halloween.
In the old days halloween was the time when the living and the dead where in the same world and it was a time to honour the dead.
When the christian church came to Ireland and great Britian the church in Ireland did their best to turn all the pagan celebrations into their own by giving the days names of saints or turning the name of the deity being celebrated into a saint. Brigid the godess in celtic pagan terms was celebrated on 1st feb. It is now st brigids day. There are numerous other examples of this all over the world as you are probably well aware.
I hope this helps, basically the church all that time ago just wanted to make the celebration a christian one so they had all saints day. In ireland we call it all souls day, this name is much more appropriate to people, even though they have forgotten why.

We are still celbrating All Saints day here, but I'm saddened to see that it is turning into a commercial gimmic like the the States. It started really a few years ago and has been building up. Little by little people are forgetting the tradition and bying into yet another bastardized caricature of a holiday. [V]

When people celebrate All Saints day here we visit our dearly departed, lighting candles on their graves and remembering them. You can pass by a grave yard, dosen't have to be that late in the day since it gets dark so early, and se thousands of small flames like the night sky had dropped to Earth.
With the current trend, the stars could fade and die.

hi, Ceriel N.
What you described sounds really nice!
Do you have any photos of all the candles in the graveyards on this night?
If you do I would love to see one.
Bye

I'm afraid I don't have any... It's simply not the kind of thing you'd photograph. And besides, I don't think a photo would do it justice. =/

Halloween, also known by Pagans and wiccans as samhain is the night of the year when the veil between our world and the world of the dead (So to speak) is the thinest and they can cross back over for another little visit. Normally what my Boyfriend and I do on Samhain is put a plate of food on the front porch for spirits of the dead to feast as they did in lifetimes before. It is also a celebration of the Crone aspect of the Goddess. We always have some speacial ritual planed out for this Sabbat seeing as it is one of our favorites. We also, usually have a feast as well with lots of baked goodies.
Samhain to me is one of the most Magickal times of the year.
Everything dies but to be reborn again in the spring.

Brightest Blessings,

P.S. do not mind my poor grammer and English I am wee bit sweepy  [:P]

just to let you know that samhain is an irish word and these days it means November.
Bealtaine, the may day celebration is the irish for May.
