Fairly simple answer from the way I interpret it -

The info in N.E.W. relates to working with the FULL energy body - getting all the chakras fired up and the whole circuit flowing. It's not a danger as such, but what Robert is getting at is if you work on getting the secondary system working well first, you have much better energy flow into the primary system.

For auric vision your just concentrating on opening one chakra.

I have tried to see the aura but have had little sucess although sometimes when I look at people against a white or off white background I seem to see something.
I seem to see a thin fully transparent layer above their heads similiar looking to waves of heat as seen from a distance.
It could just be an optical illusion but I'm not really sure.

Thank you, that info was very helpful.  BTW, I think I can see my own aura but I am not sure.  It looks like a thin ribbon of pale, white light outlining my whole body.  It's not an afterimage because I can see it instantly and it follows my body like a second skin.  Yet, Robert Bruce stated that the aura "flowers out" from the body and can only be observed with peripheral vision, but what I can see sounds nothing like that (plus, I look directly at my body).

What is it that I am seeing?  My etheric body, perhaps?

In the "Training" section of this site, there is an excellent tutorial on auric vision, as you all know.  However, I would like to address a training issue that I believe conflicts with regular energy raising/chakra stimulation.

In Robert Bruce's book, Astral Dynamics: A NEW Approach to Out-of-Body Experience, he clearly warns the risks of premature stimulation of the primary chakras.  It was stated that minor chakras should be actively stimulated for several months before 'primary' work is undertaken.  Also stated was that primary chakra work should be carefully balanced, and performed from the base level up.  Yet--despite all these warnings--in the auric vision tutorial, Robert Bruce said that stimulating the Brow Chakra on a regular basis can lead to astral sight/clairvoyant abilities, thus increasing auric vision.

Now correct me if I'm wrong, but are you or are you not supposed to rush right in to primary chakra work?  And on top of that, deliberately aim for the Brow Chakra, which if my memory serves me right, can cause physical pain (due to heavy energy sensations) and possibly unbalance the etheric body.  Why doesn't Robert Bruce at least warn people first before posting possible hazardous information?
