That mountain thing reminds me of the book "Kingdoms of the Wall."  I read it a little while ago.  In it their religion is based around climbing "The Wall" which is the mountain called Kosa Saag that the village is at the very bottom of.  Once a year they send up a pilgramage of 20 men and 20 women to reach the summit and speak to the gods like the one who climbed did.  The one who climbed was supposedly outcasted from the village.  He climbed the mountain and when he reached the summit he spoke to the gods and wrote the bible they have.  It follows Poilar Crookleg and his 40.  As they go up there are kingdoms where people are transformed by the change fire.  In one kingdom there are 3 kings and if one of them were to die the other 2 are burried alive with him.  Great book however younger kids shouldn't read it due to sexual content.
I've wanted to go to places like you've mentioned.  I'm not exactly a nature nut but I enjoy it.  I love swimming too.  You are too lucky.

Sounds interesting. I will look for it. About the "your lucky" thing. Luck has nothing to do with it . It is choices my friend just choices. Thats all.

I would rather say I am blessed. Man proposes but God disposes.

Maybe it is due to the thinner atmosphere and less oxygen that one experiences this high. Not to imply that it is not spiritual or the only reason, but do you think that this condition has such an effect upon a human, especially one not use to?

The foothills of the Appalachian Mountains is my home. I doubt I will ever leave. I have traveled South down to Florida, West to Colorado, Southwest to Texas, and many places inbetween. All places have their own beauty but this area is my special place. The Appalachian can hardly be considered big mountians when one has seen the likes of the Rockies. But I do not like the area because of the mountains but because of the forests. I love forests. I feel spiritual, at peace, at one there. There you are surrounded by life, pure, untame life. There is something special about entering a forest. It is like stepping into another world. You leave behind the world of man and enter Nature's realm.
Alice had got so much into the way of expecting nothing but out-of-the-way things to happen, that it seemed quite dull and stupid for life to go on in the common way.

Actually I think that some people derive their essence or part of it from the place they first developed. It seems that everyone who seeks and finds is somehow connected to the place the person the turn of event at the time of their transition into a spiritual understanding. Some hate their youth and are not connected becourse thay had no awakening there and never saw the place with the eyes of the spirit.

Nature seems to have more energy than a manmade enviroment and allthough some feel that way about some city big or small, it is very different with nature. In nature you almost feel "grounded".

Thwere also seem to be similarities. Mountains and the ocean somehow rhyme. I dont know why. They are both so desolate. Maybe it is the desolation. Maybe the atmosfere is free from other (*human) spirits and ones spirit can roam free so to speak. I feel this freedom at night too. Somehow the night the physical night is more at peace than the day with all the activity and glaring light and noice.

Sorry I suppose I should say if you were my age it would be lucky.  At my age you don't really have a choice in the matter.  Or at least not much of one.

Good point. However your future is only a result of the desisions you make in your present. It is up to you.

Come sail with me where moonlight illuminate eternal skies and the stardust lingers in your eyes.

I have slept on a mountain peak (Mount Sinai, Egypt), and all I can tell you is, that it was d*** cold. Beautiful sunset though.

I live in the country for now, and the best thing about it, is that there isn't a single sound at night. That is what I notice and appreciate, when I have been somewhere noisy for a while. I also appreciate the peace of the night.

What's next ? - personally, I long to lose this physical body and move on with life. There are a few experiences to be made before then, though.

for myself, i enjoy forests and hilly areas most. they are where i have gotten the "spiritual high". i have been to mountains and i must say they are wonderful indeed, but i just don't enjoy them as much as i do trees, hills, *small* cliffs and ravines ([;)]), streams of fresh water, and long expanses of grass covered lands [|)].

i love going there because it is a place of quiet rest where i can think and understand, where i can look within myself, where i can use my abilities, etc all without interruption. plus the energy in places of nature is a lot more abundant and a lot "cleaner".

as for what's next: i make no plans for the future; what happens, happens [|)]. cherish the good, learn from the bad, move on with life [:)].

This is very true. As Nature herself explained it to me (and you don't have to be a mystic to know this one) - natural environments abound in energy. its all around, from the grounding force of the bedrock below you to the kinetic energy of the wind. Everything in nature has a life energy. Man made, synthietic products are dead. the Spirit of Nature says she can't feel them, like they're a darkness amongst the light of a living things.

Even Rocks contain living energy. But concrete, bitumen, steel, plastic all those things that have been extracted from the living earth, broken down into essential elements and then fabricated into something new, they're dead. they have no energy, and like sound baffles, the don't feed us, they absorb from us, like energistic black holes.

I too love the mountains. My "inner place" of meditation is atop a mountain. You're spirit is more alive in places like this, as the living energy that is abundant in the earth is freely available to feed you here.

James.

I live in the foothills of the sierra where there is trees and lots of stars, i wouldn't trade it for being a billionare in NYC. Have you ever gone into a trance state from listening to a wild river? Maybe you could experience the same from the ocean.
In the world in general and in this nation
May not even the names disease, famine, war, and suffering be heard.
May virtuous qualities, merit, and prosperity greatly increase
And may continuous good fortune and subline well-being perfectly arise.

I absolutly love white noise, that calm relaxing natural ambient is just amazing. I would love to go up to the mountains one day, but I dont know if I could sleep without the white noise. Every night I goto sleep listening to something, and if I cant find any natural white noise then I just turn on a fan or listen to some ambient.

Now, I dont think there are too many fans on mountains [:)], but sleeping by a lake is cool. You get the sound of waves without the smell of an ocean.
We are not truly lost, until we lose ourselves.

As I write this, a vanilla sun with tinges of peach is rising above the snow-frosted trees of our fields. It's another day. I've been given another day to choose and create whatever I want to! I can forget about what happened yesterday and start fresh. Surely, whoever created this amazing world must love us, with all the beauty the One packed into this little paradise of a planet. Nature is amazing! And don't forget about animals. Wild animals are the only things we cannot control. From the great whales of the oceans to the tiny little mice. I see their delicate tracks in the snow, tiny dots with a long dash where their little tails drag, leading from the path I daily walk on into the tall grass, where they're nesting. Once, a hawk hopped from tree to tree, staying right with me as I walked down a cutline. Another time, as I sat smoking my sacred pipe (filled only with wild Kinnickinik, people) a bear came, stood up to look at me from a distance, and then dropped down on all-fours. He was so curious, and I respected him.  I spoke to him. He is Muskwa, in my language. And he is powerful. I understand that when the world was new, my people used to talk to the animals and they gave away their bodies for food and clothing. Then we broke that sacred bond of respect, and they fear us. What magic will you discover today in this wonderful world? Have an excellent one, and don't forget -- Be excellent to each other --

In the One LIght,
Dianne

I love nature myself, this post reminds me that I need to get away to nature this weekend.  I love the forrest, and I have ever since I can remember.  Just being in the woods makes me feel so good.

Nice thread Mustardseed! [:)]

For my part, I have always felt the touch of nature. As a kid lying on soft grass gazing at passing clouds. As an adult, whether it's the ocean waves or the wind whistling through the mountain forest, it all feels like home.

If I had to choose a favorite place at this time of my life (at 55), it would have to be the mountain forests. In fact, my wife and I will be moving to Flagstaff, Arizona around June (elevation 6,882 feet). It is a mountain environment in the northern part of the state. Flagstaff is surrounded by the Coconino National Forest and lots of Ponderosa pine.

All the best,
"What lies before us, and what lies behind us, are tiny matters compared to what lies within us...." - Ralph Waldo Emerson

Thanks Nick. I have been to Flagstaf many times. Its a nice place. * years ago my wife and I came back from Europe with the kids(8). We decided to go travel with them instead of putting them in school. We homeschooled them in a 26ft motorhome that we bought and travelled for 2 years 50.000 miles all over the States. Never stayed more than a few days in one place and saw a lot of beautiful nature. We would often stay in Wallmart Parking lots. They invite you and have good security. I am blessed to have a profession that gives me the possibility to travel and still pay my way.

The wallmart and city of Flagstaff were very good to us and we had a lot of fun there.

Hey MS

You did what I'd like to do! Take my son out of school to travel. Besides nature, travel is my #1 thing to do. How did it go home-schooling the kids?  What is your profession that you can take off anywhere? Do you have really have eight kids? In a motorhome? Must have been a big one.
You must love nature. I see one of your favourite quotes is from St. Francis. I saw that old Brother Son, Sister Moon (was that the title?) movie and loved it. Don't know about going barefoot in the snow, though.
But, back to nature -- I wonder how people stay grounded in big cities. Parks are okay, but so limited ... You talk about mountains. I trekked in Nepal, it was amazing. The rhododendron were in bloom and vibrating ... fuschia fantastic!!!

Mustardseed

Nepal is Beautiful that time of the year. I lived there for 2 years. It was a 26 ft motorhome not so big but I am a fair carpenter and fitted it out. To your question, I am a ventrilouguist!!!. We also opened a mobile car wash company with the kids all working with us. Lots of fun. Home schooling was easy and good. They all loved it. I have 4 in univercity on scholarship. 1 studying design at a school in Europe. 1 is a Missionary in Mexico and the 2 youngest just finished highschool this year and are traveling.

A VENTRILOQUIST - HOW COOL IS THAT? Your life must be so much fun! What kind of dummies do you work with? heh heh. Were you a missionary and that's why you've lived so many different places? Or were you an entertainer? Yeah, Nepal. Incredible place. Wanted to get into Tibet, but at the time the travelling was too hard. Nature is incredible in Thailand, too. Staying in a palm leaf hut for 10 cents a night way back when, right on the ocean!!!

Let's hear from some Aussies... We know about your oceans and coral reefs. Anyone spend time on walkabout in the outback? And, can you walk on Uluru (spelling?) or is it off limits now?

Mustardseed

I was a Missionary, still is, venting to pay bills. Actually I was and still is a Clown as is my wonderful wife. We perform together in Hospitals and do some upscale private events. Work 2 days a week and sail 5.

That might be a interesting thread what does everyone do for a living.

In my life I have lived in many unusual places, from the crowded cities of India and Asia to the most lonely mountainpeaks. Mountains are almost spiritual creations and you get a real "high" when you are alone on a mountain. It is like you can hear the voice of God, there all alone. It seems you leave the world behind the valley full of people and things. There is more light on a mountain. Have you ever slept on a mountain peak? there is something almost spiritual about climbing up as well. I left the mountains for the time being, the wild Mazar I Sharif of Afghanistan the Khyber pass the Hindukush and the giant of them all Everest. Wonderful to behold.

For now I explore the ocean. Alone on the Blue ocean, no shore insight and the sky above as blue as the 1000 feet below you made of glass.

Whats next.?

Tell me what nature you live in and how it affects you.
