I'll try to help.

Seeing as I haven't AP'd properly yet it might not be great.  I think focusing on one particular thing like rising up, or floating away is the way to go once you're in trance.  If you are doing it right you should get all of those vibes which I have managed to do, just relaxing and letting your body slip out.  But focus is the key, concentration on one particular thing, like breath awareness, or your heart beat.  I find something simple is better, my mind usually wanders into all kinds of random scenarios or voices distract me.  Focus is the key, the vibes will come.  I think after that you are just kind of lifted out, at least thats what I felt, a rising of sorts.

Be well,
J

Well when I first go to sleep it takes me well over an hour to even get into a relaxed state.

Should I begin the mind concentration exercise at the very beginning when I am winding down for the night and going to sleep.. and if I just concentrate so hard on focusing on breath awareness that eventually my body will go numb and the vibes will come?

Is it abnormal for this to take several hours?

Hello Graupel,

Deep trance is not Alpha it is only hypnoidail or light hypnosis, true deep trances is in Theta, in Theta there are several other levels, Esdail State, Canotonic State, and the last is Ultra Deepth or Sichort State.

In the hypnosis class that I attended we practiced the techniques of different levels of trances.  While I was going into trance (hypnosis) I monitored my physical body and it was going to sleep becoming extremly relax'd.

As my Instructor was doubling and tripling my relaxation I was still thinking in my head making notes of what was happening to me.  So I realized that thinking in the process of trances doesn't stop the relaxation and body asleep process.

I stay'd in the Lucid State the whole time.

When I go to sleep it takes me seconds to go to sleep and to go into deep trances with a key word we use in hypnosis. When taught one can relax in seconds.

I've read conflicting reports about how to go into a deep trance/alpha/F12/post-hypnagogic without loosing control and lucidity and just wanted to get your opinions on it.

In RB's Astral Dynamics, he says to occupy the surface mind with one single thought as the physical body drifts off to sleep.. such as breath awareness.  Monroe said to hold the mental attention on anything, as to not slip into an unawareness state.

Now.. I've also heard that it is best to not think of anything at all and have an empty mind as it drifts off to sleep.  I don't see how this is possible becuase eventually I will slip into a non-lucid normal dream or in a zombie-like state where my lucidity goes with my empty mind.

So.. just to clear things up on this issue.. will focusing on breath awareness help keep the mind lucid as the body enters trance.. and will it be passive enough where it doesn't exert too much mental energy on it to the point where you just lay in bed for hours and never get anywhere?
