Just a couple shows that are already on..

There's a show that comes on a local channel called 'The Unexplained' or something simple like that that covers a lot of good topics very well IMO. I'll try to give more info the next time it comes on, since I think I remember them giving a site and email address, etc., at the end. I've only seen it a couple times and I'm led to believe by the guide on my digital cable that it comes on once every 1 or 2 weeks on Friday evening. Of the episodes I saw, one was on the Pyramids and the Sphinx and all the mysteries surrounding them, and the other was on the Chupacabra and UFOs in general among other things.

Then of course you have Crossing Over with John Edward on Sci-Fi which is genuine enough for me.. Those are the only two I can think of right off. bwhahaahahaaaaaaasdfdsasdf
What is the sound of no leaves cloving?

I'm not much of a tv watcher. I've never had cable, just the old fashion antenna,[:)]. I do live near a small city in my state, there are affiliates for the ever popular cbs, nbc, abc.

I think tele-evangelism is a lot like an info commercial. These programs doesn't seem to be what spirituality is about. I get the feeling their making a business out of God/Jesus/Spirituality. Are these programs geared toward the people who are homebound for some reason or another? They perform as revelers to the audience by lifting them up temporarily, like a drug.  I don't think fund raising is the right way to social (or religious) dilemmas (IMO).
I don't watch these shows, but I have watched to observe the goings on. I don't think religion is about putting on a performance! I wonder if their audience can go out in the real world and be different? I wonder if those watching and contributing to these things are able to apply what they may have learned? If so, what or how?

I haven't watched any of these things for a long time.  We have a local tele-evangelist here. He is what could easily be in the fundamentalist catagory. One day I happened on his channel, he was saying we are like water in a bucket. Your hand placed in the water represents your life. Take your hand out of the bucket, and this is the impression your life has left. In other words, you all are a bunch of worthless nothings (spiritually I assume), ......until you reach heaven. That's the clincher I guess. I was shocked by this message. The bottom line according to this preacher, we are here on earth to serve, like slaves! This is so wrong!  I can't say what's in the heart of this preacher (and there are cons out there too). This fella has a real problem with his self image, and he's spreading this self image to possibly others. Hopefully nobody takes him seriously about this. This same guy has political aspirations. I think because of his lack of presence, he may not make it. Aside from this guy's poor self image, he has some good intentioned political ideas. He seems to care for people's rights (he's for the underdog).  This confuses me when this is mixed with his (not mine) religious message. It seems that so many things about politics, religion, economy, etc. are at one extreme or the other. There must be a way to balance all this. I believe society encourages subservient feelings too.

It's hard not to talk about money on this same subject. [:)]

Here's some show's coming up on the Discovery Channel.  Ancient Evidence is the series and it's hosted by...(the greatest Star Trek Captain of ALL time!!!  Drum roll please...) Avery Brooks.  At least the religious ones are.

Cruel Tendencies

My favorite TV preachers are Joyce Meyers (Life in the Word) and Joel Osteen (Lakewood Church).  They preach on how to apply biblical principles to real life, most of the time.  There's also another guy I've seen and liked; I believe his program is called "In Touch."  If you happen to be flipping through the channels and catch any of them, watch for a few minutes and see if it interests you ;)

Joel Olsteen...hmmm...his smile is a little too plastic for me.  Maybe he is sincere, but I've learned not to trust folks to be straight when they look THAT DAMN happy, lol! [}:)][:P][;)]

By the way, his Lakewood church is going to be a new neighbour of mine soon.  He's buying the Compaq Center in Houston (in fact an entire block surrounding the C.C. as well. The C.C. is only about one mile from me.  And it's going to be funny to see how he gets along with his neighbours... most of them are Gay's and Lesbians.  The rest are 'other' groups not represented in his audience demographics usually.

That being said, he usually does have a good thing to say in his service.  But I wish someone would talk to him about his disingenuine smile.  Maybe he means well, but it's hard to get past that.  At least for me it is.

I never grew up watching him, that's something my wife did as she is originally from South Texas.  Back were I'm from it was more Billy Graham than anything.

Take er' easy and keep the show listings coming folks, you're doing great! [8D]

P.S.~ Has anyone heard of the 'Wisdom Channel'?  I'll do an online search for them and when and what they are, but if anyone's an avid watcher, what's your take on them?

Here's what I gathered so far, add your own thoughts and opinions on them as you see fit...

http://www.wisdommedia.com/index.asp

It says the following about them... (quote taken directly from the Wisdom home site)

"WISDOM® Internet, WISDOM® Television and WISDOM® Radio - were created to respond to our country's booming appetite for information about personal growth, alternative medicine, social consciousness, spirituality, relationships and global issues.

Our champion for the WISDOM® family is Turner Vision founder/president Bill Turner, an altruistic, optimistic man who strongly believes in the universal laws of nature. Motivated by his own thirst for knowledge about how to better himself, he launched the three Turner Vision affiliates - the much-lauded WISDOM® Television, WISDOM® Radio and now WISDOM® Internet."

A few shows of particular interest to folks here at Astral Pulse would be...

•   Hosted by Jeffrey Mishlove, Ph.D., Thinking Allowed provides an open, non-adversarial forum for the exchange of intelligent, alternative ideas.
•   Living In Balance.  Hosted by Georgia Shakti-Hill, this series is dedicated to nurturing the mind, body, and spirit. Living in Balance brings viewers to a new awareness of the connections between physical and spiritual healing for individuals and the earth. Guests include practitioners in the healing and cultural arts from around the world.
•   This series explores the relationship between people and the Earth they inhabit. It focuses on men and women in various parts of the world who actively work for the improvement of the planet Earth. Where there is damage -- pollution in rivers, disease in forests, harm to animals -- and where there are environmentally friendly ways of producing energy or harnessing nature, the cameras of Spaceship Earth have recorded the challenges and the successes of those who seek to build a better world.
•   Journeys Into Healing. Explore various modalities of healing with host Portland Helmich.  Her guests discuss and demonstrate methods ranging from herbal healing for women to a back yard sweat lodge ceremony.
•   Meditations. Soothing music and spectacular scenery combine to provide an environment for relaxation and meditation.
•   Eye Of The Spirit: The Omega Experience.  At workshops or in solitary moments around campus, these pioneers explore the frontiers of their own consciousness and discover new worlds in their relationships with others. From yoga, dance and drumming to calligraphy, flying trapeze and interactive workshops, their integration of body, mind and spirit demonstrates how, by engaging our bodies, we can grow our souls.

Okay, obviously I got this information from their site, BUT... it serves to tell you a little of what they are about, they look worthwhile.  I don't get it on my cable package, so if anyone's a fan of this channel, please let me know what you think of them.

Hey GhostRider,
I like what your doing here.I guess I didn't get the point of your post about the programs. If you like, I'll delete my previous post as it don't fit with the scheme.

A long time ago I remember listening to Joyce Meyer on the radio. I liked her spunk. It's good to hear she's still around.
In touch sounds familiar too Cruel Tendencies, I can't recall the name of the person with the program.

I accidently saw a little of a program called Unexplained Mysteries. It was so interesting, the station took it off the air immediately. [:)]

If I had cable, I would be watching those "Evidence of...programs.That's the kind of thing I like too.

GhostRider

No, please wisp, keep them on.  This is for not just spiritual, not just the paranormal, but also the religious.  Now it seems that they're all seperated, some more so than others, but it's also not hard to see how in some round-about-way... they connect.  And another point Wisp.  You don't know if the post you put about a spiritual show isn't going to get someone to stop being anti-spiritual and open up a little... you never know, so keep up the posts.  I would've included more relgion myself, but I've been so busy lately, that I've just had the time to do post what I did.

And as far as my inspiritation for this, Beth suggested it to me a long time ago. I would like to think that someday both camps in the religious wars can come closer together.  Today, that isn't just by books, sometimes the T.V. is the best medium to do that in.  So, whether or not it's about Ghosts, or God, or Spiritualism... AS LONG AS it is a T.V. Special or an ongoing series, please post it.  By doing so you help to spread the word, the word of enlightenment by any means nessesary my brothers and sisters...let spiritual freedom reign!!![8D]

Sorry, guys, but from what I've seen of US 'evangelism' tv, it is utterly, utterly dire!... most of their so called 'facts' are based on very dodgy ground and as for the fundamentalist programs.... I would rather have a meal with Hermann Goering in a top Paris restaurant; he may have been a drug crazed transexual, but at least we could have gone dancing!

I saw that Joyce Meyers a couple of times and thet other guy too. I dont know what it is but somehow they almost repulse me. Some of what they say is ok but they are so compromised and hankering for popularity that it is depressing. They have this very american idea that if you are spiritual you should be succesfull, rich or blessed in some way. I find that some of their doctrines are in contradiction with the truth and all the right they say sort of sugarcoats the lies. This is the plastic Christians. Billy Graham style. They all love the spotlight and the popularity. Besides that they all support certain political ideas and are strong on the male and female , man being the head of women, sort of thing. Both of which I think is directly harmful doctrines.

I saw the program touched by an angel a few times , that was pretty ok. Inspireing and uplifting and I think in many ways a good picture of how I have experienced things to work.

Words.....there was a time when I believed in words!

If my memory serves me right, Joyce Meyer did promote the prosperity angle in her ministry. She also took a humorous angle which attracted her audience. There is a lot to be said about laughter and lightening up a bit. [:)]

The prosperity she did seem to possess didn't set right with me. That wasn't the reason I drifted from listening to that sort of thing. God sent me in another direction.
I'm talking in the past tense because it's been soooo long since I've ventured in this area.

I've always liked Billy Graham. I can't say I've ever sat through one of his sermons though. [:I] I've never known if this is good thing, or a bad thing, [?]. He can sure attract the masses though, huh?

I can say I sat through an entire episode of "Touched By an Angel".It was heavy on the emotional aspect of things. It was a tear jerker, but there are other ways to look at things too.

This is kind of an "uber-site" where you can go and search multiple channels at once for paranormal themed T.V..  I found it quite informative...

http://www.eeeek.com/paranormaltv.html

#1.)- Mysterious World ~ On The Learning Channel at Tuesdays 9 p.m. E.S.T.

http://tlc.discovery.com/fansites/mysteriousworld/mysteriousworld.html

#2.)- Unsolved Mysteries ~ On lifetime T.V. at 8 p.m. E.S.T....(? day of week?)

http://www.unsolved.com/home.html

Robert Stack Ruled Man, Bless His Soul!!!

#3.)- Haunted History ~ On The History Channel  (looks like it was a special or a mini-series, so watch for it on there, or order the DVD set at the T.H.C. site itself.

#4.)-   And though he isn't airing on T.V. anymore, I liked his show and found it informative and real interesting, here's his site.

Thanks for the links GhostRider. Don't laugh, but I had a dream once about being on an airliner, I was sitting next to Rod Serling (of Twilight Zone) and we were chatting. Several months later, I discovered the Twighlight Zone series came out at the local library. I've been checking them out ever since.
Another weird thing. I listened to an interview with James VanPraugh once. I was so impressed with what he said, afterward I grabbed my dream journal (nearest paper handy), and wrote down 8 pages of notes of everything he said. For a short period of time I could remember everything he had said word for word.
You also mentioned a while back about the ABC program about "Was Jesus Married". I watched it, it was good. The program said something about Mary Magdeline sitting on the right side of Jesus in "The Last Supper" painting. The V shape was formed by the way Mary and Jesus sat at the table in the painting. I forgot what the message of the V shape was suppose to mean. Next time I visited my mom, I checked out a picture she had of "The Last Supper". Sure enough, it was a woman and a V shape was formed between her and Jesus. It makes me wonder.

There was a miniseries that was quite popular in the eighties called "V". It was about reptilians coming to earth and disguising themselves as human.

Now while I don't remember the character's name, the character on the series 'V' played by Michael Ironside, subsequently I enjoyed his characters... the captain on SeaQuest DSV (GREAT Series!!!), and his roles as the bad guy in the second Highlander film and the Arnold S. film Total Recall (also a great book).  I did enjoy that 'V' series...imagine, traveling millions of light years for fine dining!!!  My kind of aliens!  LOL!

[:)] Maybe the V was for VanGogh? I'm not familiar with the reptilian shows. The reptilian race may be a warning of some kind? It doesn't sound good!

wisp

Hmmm. Just had a thought. Someone had an animal question in the dream section. It made me think that maybe to understand the nature of reptiles could be interesting. What kind of reptiles are portrayed in these programs?  The author Ted Andrews from his book Animal-Speak makes a distinction between reptiles and amphibians.

Could someone who is interested in reptiles, and experiences reptilian life (in the astral for instance), have reptiles as his/her totem animal? I would think so.

I'm starting this thread to give ya'all a head's-up to any television shows on cable, basic cable or sattelite t.v. that focus on spiritual matters, religious matters, or even new-age mysticism topics, whatever floats your astral boat.

Show's that are for, shows that are against even views inbetween the pro and con camp are invited.

Feel free to post... I know I will...[;)]
