Work on your posture. During the day sit up straight. It might feel odd at first, especially if you are not use to sitting in the proper position, but give it a week or two and your back will feel a lot better. Worked for me. Sometimes I slack of, like when I do not feel well. If I do so for too long I start having back pains again.

As for wanting to sleep, try not to let your thoughts drift during the day. Try to keep control of them. Pay attention to what you are doing. When your thoughts drift off, bring them back as soon as you notice. This will help when you are wanting to meditate and/or project and your mind will not stay on what you are wanting to do.

Go to a chiropractor.  My daughter at 2 years old was constantly complaining of back pain and I finally took her to a chiropractor.  She feels fine now.

Getting back pains checked out is always important.  I was born with a plethora of back problems.. and I found I am extremely uncomfortable in the "sitting up" position.  (Unless I manage to sit in a nice comfy lazy boy recliner of some sort.. WITH a headrest)

Other than that, I just lay on my back in bed.  I found this is the best solution for me.  Another interesting thing to try is a hammock.  Man, that's instant trance for me!

Chiropractor?? umm no thanks. That isnt even a science. The whole idea is based on some theory a guy made about the spine like a hundred years ago, its not safe in my opinion. Thats the last place ill be going.

WalkerInTheWoods

Opiate, where are you getting your information and why do you think it is not a science? I do not know a lot about it, but I have heard many good things about people who have been to a Chiropractor.

Umm its not a science because they dont actually know anything about it. All they do is manipulate the spine using a bunch of techniques, not only is it unethical and unjustified a lot of the time, its also dangerous. It really depends on wether your going for a regular "healthy" back-click-bender-massage or wether u actually have a problem. Im definitly not going.

There are many unexplainable things from the scientific point of view.  That does not stop many (particularly in these forums) from believing that Science does not have all the answers.  I know many people (including my daughter and myself) who have had their pain either partially or completely releived by using a chiropractor.  Another suggestion is to try a Reiki practitioner.  I am a Reiki Master and I know the benefits of Reiki can be wonderful.  If you know nothing about reiki, do a google search.  No manipulation of the spine, just channeled healing to allow you to tap into the Universal Life Force Energy of healing which allows your body to dictate where the energy is needed.

Hi opiate,

ive had back pains located in between my shoulder blades on the spin and sometimes in my sacral area. the way i got rid of it was by strengthening my back by sitting more erect. being relaxed, fixing posture and energy brushing in the area where there is pain can do the trick if its nothing too serious.
If you will it it is no dream.

Yes but thats just the thing!!! Science DOES have an answer to chiropractors. We know for a FACT that manipulating the spine does NOT have health benefits, which many chiropractors claim and sell their "labours", when most of the time they are doing more damage than good. That is something we do know.

I know a little about Reiki.. i think anyway... i practice tai chi myself and although i havent tried any healing techniques, the practice itself has many health benefits. I would like to see some of the benefits of Reiki however, and admittedly i am skeptical. I have a feeling it has more to do with blood circulation and a positive mental attitude... but if you can prove my biased theories otherwise with some drastic recovery results for example would be much appreciated [;)]

Opiate,

I am not here to prove anything to anyone, merely to make suggestions which you with your infinite wisdom can discern and determine whether it is something that corresponds with your beliefs.  You need to listen to the dictates of your own heart and if you decide to research Reiki then I encourage you to do so.  If you feel you can gain no benefit from a chiropractor, then so be it. I have no personal investment in your pain or well being, I am only telling you of a technique that has worked for me and my family.  You asked for suggestions and I gave you my input based on my experience.  That's all.

In recent times I have experienced back problems. What I do is to lay on my back (keeping the spine straight) and prop my legs up comfortably on some cushions or pillows. That position allows me to lay like that for a good while without problems. So when I do a session of astral phasing that is the position I will use very often. [:)]

Yet Western Medicine chooses to ignore it.

Western medicine ignores or illegalizes anything that they can't market. Hence life saving things are kept away from those in need in the name of profit.

Well Chiropractory was invented by a WESTERN scientists theory, so typically thousands of westerners are gonna jump on the bandwagon, which automatically makes it slightly more beneficial, acknowledged and whatever other bells and whistles they can tack on... But hey thats our society about 50 years ago, i wonder if its changed...

I value everyones opinion, and i am always open for friendly discussion or debate. Truly the only way we can explore a subject thoroughly is by discussing it with people that "oppose" our views? Its the heart of democracy, and i cant force you into a discussion nor would i want to, but if im going to seek advice that anyone on this forum can benefit from, it must be free of any human opinion. I wouldnt go up to the inventer of the brain wave generator machine selling at 350 bucks and ask them wether it would work for me or not, and i wouldnt go up to a shotokanist asking if they have the most powerful form.

Actually im talking about back pains... not serious ones, but it seems that no matter what position i take i always seem to have pains in either my neck or my lower back, anyone else have this problem?

If im sitting up, my head will nod backwards and forwards causing me to constantly keep aware of it and adjust it (slowly obviously if im in a trance heh).. pretty frustrating.. Also if im up against the wall, i either get the same nod forward thing or i feel pressure in my lower back...

If im on my back in bed, its very hard to concentrate. I always seem to go off on a tangent and think about sleep or something, so i dont like to practice in bed... but if im on the hard ground i get the same back problems..

I doubt i have real back problems, im in my teenage years... so whats up? Im sure some of you guys have this problem too? Hey i'd like to try the lotus or something but i dont think im flexible enough [;)]
