Zulu:

Meditation is your best way to receive guidance. There are a ton of books on the subject. Guidance comes to us most usually in subtle ways. I get quite a bit of guidance in the dream state but some people don't remember their dreams. By getting quiet and centering yourself, being aware of your breathing you can learn to hear your inner voice. For starters, ask for a meditation book to come to you and see what happens. Have fun with it. The spiritual quest is a fascinating ride. You will never get bored with it.

I too say that meditation is the answer.  During meditation often my guide will speak to me within 1 or 2 minutes, it's not difficult.  Relax, take a few slow deep breaths, clear your mind of all expectations, and listen.  Something you want to know... ask.  It's that simple.  You will know when you are thinking, and when you are being spoken too.  To me it's the most enjoyable experience there is, so good luck to you!

Hi Zulu and hi to the rest of the forum here,
I met my guides during Shaman trance journey lessons and Reiki initiation.

My XP, strictly subjective:
About your question "good or bad" => My first "guide" or to be exact, the first "entity" was not suitable for me. My Reiki teachers at that time told me this:
If you meet a guide, ask it 3x => "Do you come from the light"? According to my former teachers this question placed 3x makes it impossible for the entity to dodge - if you wait long enough for the answer.

Find a guide, again strictly subjective => you can ask for a guide. It's not a personal one, but can help you to find your own one. Guides in my XP need an open invitation and a friendly observative approach to get into contact. Meditation, trance or other ways to quieten down inner noisiness are good ways. I found Raphael to be a very suitable guide for me - he's not my personal one, but he's there as a sort of "teacher" and helped me with my first entity.

Some (did I already mention "strictly subjective"? [;)] ) claim to be spirit guides, though they are earthbound spirits, spirits with an unsolved task. Even these have a message or more, worth to listen to IMO and then choose freely what to do. I call them "companions" and if they don't drain me too much (partly coming from my inner resistance) I welcome them as well. Why? They have not harmed me, were just in search of warmth - but that's just me. I don't judge in the terms "good/bad" - I look why these earthbounds have chosen me. And I think, they are "connected" to my life tasks and then let go.

According to the teacher I have now => guides change as you change or develop. This was a hard lesson for me when one of my Shaman guides broke the news that she would leave. I had to let go - a very precious lesson my panther lady taught me.

Another way to get into contact, again strictly my own XP => get into contact with your soul/spirit. This started in my case by Autogenetic Training. Becoming friends with her helped me to access the guidance realm.

Love, light, open-mindedness and peaceful observation to all of you [:)]
