Those freakky sounds on the way out!

For quite a while now, I have wonder myself.  Could you give a example of the sounds, I don't think the ones I hear are the same. I posted about my last OOB..and heard something downstairs..and it seemed to be HUGE.  

This morning while attempting, I heard some sounds again. I wasn't OOB and could tell at that point it was my cats!  they were chasing each other like crazy, and if you have cats you know how they jump and really can get carried away. (they have even knocked over a chair)

So, my guess is what I heard before, was my cats but at that time I was in a deeper state and it was distorted, as most of us know the astral can distort things.

My tv tends to pop and crack as well...I mean really, really loud like the back of it just exploded. Use to scare the doodie out of me, not to mention tick me off, by breaking my concentration.

Who knows what all these sounds are.  I think it is different for everyone but it is fun trying to figure it out!

P.S. if anyone is interested, I didn't get out.  I haven't had this happen to me in a long while, but I had that tightness in my chest, making it feel like I wasn't getting enough air, and the ole heart was beating away..I tried to hang but couldn't..eh, oh well..

I had my first obe experience where I was fully aware last weekend,I woke up early on Saturday morning and then dropped back of to sleep with the thought in my mind that I wanted to project.

I'm not sure how much later it was but I became aware that I was very alert, it was very dark and I could hear lot's of strange sounds, at first I thought it was my cat clambering on my head but I realised he wasn't in the room, this startled me and snapped me out of it unfortunately.

The sounds were like the snapping and popping noises other people have mentioned, I would also compare them to the following: Electrical static, Sheets of paper being scrunched or crumpled & footsteps treading on gravel.

I put a post up last weekend regarding the above and after buying one or two books and reading on the internet at different sites I have discovered that these sounds often accompany the exit to an Astral projection.

Now I know that the noises or normal and connected to this next time I will persist and hopefully fully exit!

I have also read that the darkness or blind feeling is normal when the astral body is in close proximity to the physical body, would anyone else be able to clarify this?

when i have OBE's of the more realistic variety i tend to be prone to blindness and clumsiness, but what i don't know is whether that is because i read that that happens to people and so that causes it to happen to me, or there is something legitimate about it that everyone experiences even if they know nothing of OBE.

as for the sounds...

They are hypnagogic hallucinations, commonly heard before falling asleep.

To OBE you more or less need to asleep, but conscious/lucid so that would explain the sometimes rapid weird noises you get when you start exiting as well as why you usually hear a noise or see a flash of light or some vision or weird bodily feel when you are falling asleep and then suddently jolt awake.

i'm not sure if the hallucinations are caused by the fact that you are jolting or the jolting is caused by the hallucination though... it seems like the former to me because i sometimes remember what i was thinking and hearing before a loud noise comes in and the noise seems to happen slightly during the middle of a jolt awake...

HR to classify any sounds as hypnogogic halucinations is a bit premature I think.  It is true this occurs while in the hypnogogic state, but I would not presume to say with certainty WHAT the source of the noise is for every case.  I have had experiences that were hypnogogic halucinations, and they are very real, but the context told me it was just a halucination.

In the context of OBE, I have experienced several times while in deep night paralysis trance with vibrations that my hearing would suddenly seem to 'open up', as though I had been deaf all my life and suddenly I could truly hear.  It could be argued that this was halucinations but I think it was Clairaudience, the ability to hear psychically.  The noises then were running water, tapping sticks, and low, muffled chanting.

As to distracting noises while attempting OBE, my advice is to learn to just ignore them.  You don't know what they are - they may be halucination, they may be something in your house, they may be something in the astral plane - but whatever they are they are a distraction, and need to be ingnored.

If it's a robber just be thankful you will die in your sleep.

The first time I had an OBE I heard a really loud roaring noise along with a metallic noise.  Sometimes when I'm separating I just hear physical noises around me getting louder like my computer fan.  With practice those have seemed to go away.  There have been a few times when I heard gun shots and loud bangs.

Well those don't really sound like typical exit sounds... I agree that hearing can be heigthened when in different states of mind and it might not have anything to do with hallucinations, but exit sensations most certainly do.

I mean if you take the AP stance, we leave our bodies whenever we sleep, which would explain "hypnagogic hallucinations" in astral terms. If you take the science stance, our mind starts hallucinating when it enters various stages of sleep. In either case, violent, sudden, loud noises are heard while exiting body and while falilng asleep/waking up...

And frankly exiting the body is exactly like going to sleep (well the very quick heavily vibration induced rapid exit feels like it to me) in the physical and mental way, just that you stay alert and take it a step further and intiate motion outward (or inward to a lucid dream, etc.)

So it's just semantics.

Anyway about the hearing opening up... that really is something else. Usually it's so subtle that I don't notice it, but I remember a day ago while doing something, either trying to sleep or trying to project, I was hearing my fan reverberating off the wall.. I mean.. it was so quiet and faint.. often times I will hear this in sleep parlaysis and it's even that much louder and sounds like alien clicking all around me and eventually when I get my senses straightened out it dims down and I notice it's coming from the fans sound bouncing off the wall... but still, to pick up on something that subtle is pretty amazing, especially since my ears are so clogged up.

For me, the sounds are as if someone was playing 100 radio stations at once on high volume.. theres like this guy announcing stuff then children laughing and such then theres like a load roar and swoosh and a bunch of random buzzes and stuff and wow... kinda scary but cool also. Someone mentioned earlier about the high pitch noise--i think thats normal cause ive read about that a lot..for me if i concentrate on it then it gets louder... wonder what its purpose is though 0_o

Never had an OBE before, but I've been working at it for about 5 months now. One night last week, I wasn't trying to OBE but while trying to sleep I suddenly noticed a medium-loud roaring noise. It sounded just like my computer fan, but I know it wasn't because I could hear both the roaring sound and the comp. fan. I really thought I was gonna finally have an OBE, but then out of nowhere I heard a loud and I mean LOUD voice yelling. It really scared me and I was wide awake right away

I've always been hearing tons of different sounds just before leaving the body..(actually that's one of the ways thanks to which I know I'm out;))...on the beginning the sound was so horrible (loud+distracting) that i thought my ears would explode!!!They were really painfull!!..I started begging, or sometimes yelling at my guides to do something with the sound...throughout the years it started changing...I went through the "radio station' stage, the "dentist"stage. the"boeing 727" stage...you name it I've heard it...no thankfully the sound is 1000 times more delicate...something like a bell. I also had obe where the screeech sound changed into music...this was very amazing..because the music was very beautiful, and there was some singing...in both languages that I speak...once this angel music modified and there was this massive attack - tori amos music....very fun, not as good as in the physical reality though;)))
I guess my guides still have to practise with their astral tunes;)))

ahh today i was about to fall asleep and i heard a weard noice in my ear almost like some one brething in my ear. then i fell asleep i think. when i heard the noicess it was 3 i woke up at 5:30 i dont think i had a obe though.

heh, if you guys wanna hear some crazy noises without doing much of a meditation practice at all just stay up really really late and when you are so tired you can hardly keep your eyes open , simply sit up with your head propped against the back of your chair and quiet your mind as much as you gain for about 30 seconds and then listen and watch the next thing that pops up in your head.. you will either get random lous noises associated with that visual or just some off the wall stuff but they will be very real noises and sometimes funny.

I heard just last night , an explosion spell sound effect from a computer game I play (ultima online) it sounded as if it came from my computer and it made me laugh , 5 seconds later I heard the freakiest woman voice commanding me to go to sleep by simply saying "Go to sleep" in a whispering rapsy voice.. well.. I fell asleep right after that but it scared me awake for about 10 more seconds.  I'm going to stay up really late tonight so  Ican listen to all the random noises and hopefully I can tell you guys exactly what I'm feeling physicaly , what my mind is thinking of , and what kinds of sounds I hear.  Also I've heard loud screaming voices , sometimes 2 of them one in each ear..

Another thing that happened to me was.. I was laying down one night and the hypnagogic imagery state came and I saw a window .. 2 ropes making a big + sign .. in the window frame and a wooden red ball in the center of them.. for some reason I was seeing this and I saw 2 hands both draped in rotting sky-blue colored cloth bang against each other 3 times , on the third time I heard a loud bang along with a buzzing electrical sound that jolted me awake.  I have no idea why that happened or why I saw the rope window visual before hand .. the hands came back after that and produced another clashing sound of some kind before I fell asleep.  I'm just sorta passing the time away so I can hear those things tonight 2:30am right now! Woooo cya!

does anyone know what makes those really strange noises when one is about to project?
I'm just curious i remeber being abit scared of them until i realised that theres nothing to worry about..they're almost to keep people out who perhaps aren't quite ready yet to enter the astral (indeed it is everyones right) anyway if i could sample them some how (impossible i know) it would make for an amazing psy trance or techno track!!!! anyway just a thought[]
