Scientist Claims Proof of Afterlife

I'm sorry, but this isn't proof of an afterlife.  As the guy has repeated his experiements, it's obviously something paranormal is going on here, but it's not proof of the afterlife.

Since the mediums are talking to spirits, it could be a demon (or any ole spirit) posing as the spirit of the deceased one, that happens to have knowledge of the contents of the persons house.

This is pretty much proof of the existance of spirits, but not of the afterlife.

You may ask, doesn't the existance of a spiritworld mean that there is an afterlife?

We tend to assume so, but that doesn't mean there are.  Maybe our spirits when no longer connected to our body dissipate into air around us and we lose our consciousness.  To actually prove the "survival of the consciousness" as they put it in the article, they'd have to find some way to detect our spirits, and come up with some way to uniquely identify each one.  Then, when called forth by a medium, check to see if that is in fact our spirits.  That is the only real way to prove it.  Anything else can be faked by a spirit that has enough knowledge

EDIT
Some further thoughts on the matter:
Another reason why this doesn't prove the afterlife is that it doesn't even prove that we have spirits to begin with.  Maybe we are just like computers in a sense, and these spirits are actually like higher level beings talking to us via "telepathy".  Another reason why the existance of a spirit world doesn't prove that we move on to this world after death.

EDIT 2
Btw, just to clear things on the matter.  I DO think that it's good that scientists are exploring the spiritual world.  I DO believe in the afterlife and that we have spirits that move on.  I'm just pointing out that this isn't proof.

Yeah i know it isn't direct proof of an after-life, but it shows some sort of existence beyond the physical, which, as MJ-12 said leads to quesitons on an after-life. The fact that all those mediums that were tested were channeling the same spirits which gave the same information about people they supposedly knew when they were alive is some sort of proof.

And even though it isn't concrete proof or anything, at least we are getting more scientists mixing with spiritualists.

I have had some communications with the people involved in this study.  There is a full transcript of the research paper through the internet but I have forgotten the address.  Use google.

I agree that it is indirect evidence of an afterlife, however, science in its entirety is built on indirect evidence.  For example, first years in psych are taught to never talk in absolutes because all a test can show us is that the data 'seems' to support a hypothesis.  Even if an experiment is repeated many times over, any scientist of worth will talk of 'high probability' that something is so and not it is absolutely so.  Given this, why do we expect absolute proof from these studies?

I don't entirely agree with it as proof of an afterlife as I think there are other ways of thinking about it which involves quantum physics.  However, it could be exactly what they think it is, which is kind of nice to know.[:)]

My apologies if this has already been posted, but i couldn't see it anywhere. Just thought some people might be interested.

It's nothing groundbreaking, but it's a step in the right direction i think. Science exploring spirtuality can only be good. Of course, there will always be those strict scientists who just shake their heads, but at least there are some people doing things and getting the message out there.
