I have practiced many forms of Qigong for about 3-4 years now, and it has helped me in my astral projection immensely. I need internal energy to project and stay aware of the physical at the same time. Some forms of qigong I have tried are: Shoalin wah-nam, Internal sitting meditations, Tai-Chi, as well as a few others. What I find works best for me is sitting meditation combined with various dynamic exercises such as flicking fingers (Sinew Metamorphosis) Living Bhuddha raises heavens, Horse stance/golden bridge, as well as a few others.

Hi SpectralDragon, from your reply it sounds like you've had quite an extensive experience with chi kung, confirming my suspicion that this art has (at least for some people) a profound effect on their astral endeavors.

I believe that chi kung not only builds internal energy, but keeps the practitioner grounded as well, which is very important. In fact Mantak Chia, a very well-respected chi kung teacher once said that it's extremely important to learn how to ground yourself when learning astral projection. I guess the 'danger' is that without grounding you become too spacey.

At the moment I'm practicing Gary Clyman's system of chi kung which teaches a more direct way to control energy, especially sexual, by using standing and sitting postures. I've incorporated some of Dr Lin's ideas (see link in my above post) as well as Mantak Chia's to make it even more effective.

My next goal is to start practicing Tai Chi Ruler.

BTW I've never heard of flicking fingers, though the Sinew Metamorphosis sounds suspiciously familiar. Is this the same thing as the Muscle Tendon Change practices?

Yeah I think muscle tendon charge is the same thing. BTW: I was going to do an AP guide on projecting while still conscious. I am still wondering about how I will go about writing it though.

Nitetravlr,
Can you tell me anything more about Gary Clyman's course?
I found his website and became interested, but then found out that his video set costs $3,000!
I emailed him and politely told him that I thought the cost was excessive, and he emailed me back, saying, "You're wrong. You're cheap. You're a loser. You're dumb."

Hi,

Just thinking of your thread - I am someone more experienced in yoga practice with only a modicum and growing interest in Tia Chi/Chi Gung, being more inclined towards their associated healing modalities.

As per the other thread I had similar issues to those discussed with raised sexual energy following the return to yoga/meditation etc a number of years ago. I have found balanced approach to energy work a great benefit not only in terms of health & well being, and also found that it has run hand in hand with spiritual awareness and growth in a range of extra sensory abilities and awareness.

Thinking of the subject, I had opportunity to attend class with a really personable teacher Jayne Storey. Jane runs workshops near to where I live in the UK. I understand her video course is respected in the States and is reasonably priced. I believe that her approach is mainly Yang style and don't know if the tapes/dvds are too basic for your needs.

See: http://www.energytraining.com/ or try a search on Amazon.

All the best,

Hi electricsoul, I believe the $3,000 you mentioned is for Gary's Nei Kung course. When I ordered his Chi Kung course about 5 years ago, it was around $600.00

You're right $3,000 IS a lot of money to shell out for, well...ANYTHING, be it a nei kung course, chi kung course, or whatever. Also, Gary was very rude for calling you names, but then Gary is known for being bombastic and aggressive. I've spoken with him on numerous occassions and can say without reservation that while he has a lot of enthusiasm, there is definitely a rather hard edge to his personality. In fact, on a Kung Fu forum 5 or 6 years ago, someone posted a story about Gary at a Martial Arts Convention, where several people saw Gary approach Master Pan, the foremost Iron Fist practitioner in the world, and ask him to strike him in the stomach full force. Master Pan, so the story goes, smiled and politely refused, saying that if he did that, Gary would be seriously hurt. Gary persisted until the Master simply walked away, and was thus spared the embarrasment of explaining to the attending Emergency Room Doctor that his stomach was ruptured by a little 'old' man.

Anyway, I digress. To answer your question regarding Gary's chi kung system. Probably the most important aspect of his course is what he calls Condensing Breathing, which is a technique for drawing energy into the arms, legs, and torso, much like the 'packing' exercises practiced in some forms of kung-fu or chi kung. His system essentially teaches how to draw energy into and out of various parts of the body, and ends with learning how to do the Microcosmic Orbit.

If you want more detail regarding his system just let me know, I'll be more than happy to reply.

Peace

I do not agree with people having to pay quite that much, the guy likely has enough money as it is, he should only have you pay what he needs. There are a lot of Master practitioners that do that.

Psionic303

I was training in Shaolin Kung Fu for a year and i can remember that i was able to feel energy movement and had the most successful projections during that time when i was training on a routine basis. So i def do think it helps you with projecting because it teaches you to harness and focus your energy as well as concentrate and build your internal chi.

nitetravler

That's what I noticed too Psionic303. Chi kung seems to give the practitiioner more control over their internal energy, which sharpens their focus and relaxation skills, thus having a profound effect on astral projection.

I'm curious, do you think Chi Gong is similar to Robert Bruce's NEW system ?

nitetravler

I'm not familiar with Robert Bruce's new system Shedt, but I remember reading through his book Astral Dynamics and marveling at how similar some of his exercises were to chi kung. It's probably a pretty safe bet that Robert's NEW system DOES incorporate certain aspects of chi kung.

I also practice Chi Kung. Ive been in my style of martial arts for three years now, and have just recently been making the internal classes more regularly. I really enjoy this stuff. It DOES help with APing, since you need energy to project, and internal excersizes teach you how to gain, and control that energy. :)

Does anybody here practice chi kung, yoga, or some other eastern practice? If so, has it helped with your astral projection? I know that when I practice my chi kung faithfully it leaves me feeling very grounded, centered, and calm, though I haven't done it long enough yet to notice results with astral projection, if it does indeed have any effect.

Also, and this may be an...er-ah...offshoot of a previous thread on masturbation; how do you deal with an excess of sexual energy? I find that chi kung is a great help, while I've heard that others find jogging helps. At any rate I'd like to compare notes with some of you here.

BTW, one site that has lot's of great info on sexual energy (and how to harness it) as well as being one of the best for guys who want to learn sexual kung-fu, is this one: http://www.actionlove.com/
