cesm23,

You can have an OBE from different sleeping positions.  I have had them from on my back and from lying on each side. Sometimes when I wake up at night, I notice sensations that I attribute to OBEs.  I roll over on my side and the event begins.  The ones I have from on my back happen when I'm practicing techniques.  The ones I have from on my side are usually random.

I think the key is to find a position that is comfortable enough to let you work into the mind awake/body asleep phase.

Don't worry my friend. At least 100 of my APs/LDs are occured while I was lying on my side & stomach. However, it seems to me, that etheric OBE-ing is very difficult from that position. You could waste years by lying on your back and trying to relax.

100% relaxation is not possible, there is a residual tension all the time. By decreasing the inicial tension, the residual awareness of your sleeping body, thus the stability of your LD will increase.

Etheric OBEs require deep muscular relaxation from the very beggining. Turning tensed LDs to far journeys will induce delta sleep by default with very low muscle tone.

I'm not overweighted, but perhaps my favorite position will work for you, too. Lie on your stomach, with pillow beneath your left or right side, under your shoulder and upper body. Bend your leg at the same side to further support.

Also, you can try the sleeping tiger position, which is very good for LDs. Make a Google search to find it, by descriptors like "sleeping tiger", "dream yoga", "taoist".

cesm23,

The way upstream described sleeping on the side is how I do it.  I do it without the pillow. I just refer to it as on my side because when you pull your leg up, it lifts off of your stomach a little.  Maybe somewhere in between stomach and side.

Thanks for the great description, upstream.

is it true that it's impossible to do astral projection/oobe if our body isn't 100% relaxed ?

But for example if at nigth we can go to sleep at a certain position, does that mean that position is also good for astral projection/oobe or the conditions are different and for astral projection/oobe it really requires 100% relaxation ?

I just have come with that idea, MAYBE just because we are able to get asleep in a certain position on bed, it's also possible to do astral projection/oobe with that position ?

This is mostly because i am overweight and i am completly unable to 100% relax, the best position for me is lying on my side, but Robert Bruce says to not use that position, does this mean we CAN'T astral project/oobe when lying on our side ?
