A good (free online) book that will help you is: http://www.robertpeterson.org/obebook.html

Whenever I'm not too motivated or start to have fears and doubts, I simply read a couple chapters from it, and the motivation kicks in right back!

You know... It's not that what you say is impossible, but it's really not a realistic goal for a beginner...

Start out slow!

The few OBEs I've had all either started in the location I was sleeping in, or in my childhood home back in France... I have yet to find myself anywhere truly unknown... I'm wondering if I created the childhood home landscape, either as symbolism for something, or as a "shield" so that I don't become afraid of being lost.

My childhood home happens to be my most frequent dream location, and it's very often distorted (rooms are mapped out differently, doors that are supposed to lead outside lead into new rooms, etc). Interestingly enough, I was always dead scared of the basement, and I can't recall ever dreaming of being in the basement from that house in a dream.

You know how in several books authors will report that we tend to see entities with clothes on when in fact they are nude? Could we be compensating subconsciously for the lack of knowns by putting "pictures" of home over the actual dream/OBE environment? I find it amazing how I tend to always find myself in hospital or school-like environments that look like my childhood home but with a different structure...

"Temple of comfort" would be a good way to put it -- but is it a kind of filter effect meant to comfort us, or do we actually go there? Good question!

Welcome to Metaphysics! / Re: Brain to slow?
October 18, 2006, 18:13:46
I put particular importance in observing what happens in the mind's eye... I believe it's a gateway to our higher intelligence...

Basically, our brain has this "buffer area" that is used for processing data, ranging from our thought processes to the nervous system (sight, hearing, touch, taste, smell). When you go into trance, you disable these "pathways" and plug directly into a mind that is separate from your physical body, and is much more powerful in terms of creativity and intelligence.

When you daydream, you are in a way using more of your resources towards thinking and visualizing than processing what happens around you and in your body.

When we are conscious, we only have access to this limited buffer area in the brain which is capable of limited communication with the "out-of-body mind." I firmly believe that developing psychic powers is all about training the brain to communicate with that higher mind and bring its abilities into the waking state.

This is compatible with phasing in the sense that you have the physical thought processes overlapping with the non-physical ones, and by deactivating the physical ones, you get to experience more of the non-physical ones -- two currents are on the same line, and you learn to shift towards one or the other. Normally, the non-physical "current" is very faint compared to the physical one, so by using it, you also amplify it and make it stronger so that you can perceive it in waking life.

Note that the images are not always meaningful... I have "clairvoyance moments" where I suddenly see hallucinations -- often shadows on walls become objects that move. The creative mind adds something to physical sight just by trying to interpret shapes, and it can create really odd visions. Not only are shapes translated, but also feelings, tastes, etc... So there's really no telling what will appear.

I suspect this may have something to do with the balance between left brain and right brain...

A note about nitrous oxide: It is not unhealthy in the short term, but many people have been found dead after abusing it for several weeks. It lessens your body's ability to take in nutrients until taking in food becomes useless. I do not advocate its use at all, but if you must use it, make sure you do not make it a daily routine.

I used to play around with nitrous oxide when I was younger... I remember that it was indeed quite a powerful experience, albeit quite brief.

What happens is that the whole body goes numb, but the mind remains active. On many occasions I found myself continuing whatever it is I was doing when I took the hit... But then I'd regain awareness and realize that I was just in a dream-like state, drooling all over myself.

On the one hand, I do think it could help with projection... But on the other hand, tummy aches, vomiting, fainting, drooling incontrollably, raging headaches... Not my favorite side effects... I'm not going to try again any time soon...

The answer is simple:

Do not think with your brain, think with your mind.
Do not look with your physical eyes, look with your mind's eye.
Do not listen with your physical ears, look with your mind's ear.
Do not feel anything with your physical sense of touch, you are formless.

The transition from the physical brain to the non-physical mind happens by itself when we fall asleep. If we choose to remain conscious, we have to learn to use our non-physical senses as they kick in. This is very unusual for us, that's why we have to take "baby steps." Start by trying to observe hypnogogic imagery without breaking it, and slowly lengthen the amount of time you remain aware in trance.

It takes practice, but once you "get it," you will be progressing smoothly.

I've been discussing this recently... I thought it fit into this forum because I believe this is what the 2012 prophecy is the result of. I do not believe anything will happen on December 12, 2012, but I do believe that with the current situation of the world, and the increasing awareness of psychic phenomena by way of the internet, we are inevitably going to reach a point where a global event will be triggered.

I've been writing a guide to astral projection which includes the dream alarm method and what I believe is an overall better understanding of the process that carries someone from "unaware human" to "astral projector" and would ultimately help accelerate people's development.

Now, I won't go as far as to say that I have the ultimate, fool-proof method of achieving an out of body experience that will always work on anybody no matter what. That would be overly optimistic, and nothing has been thoroughly field tested yet.

But let's consider this theoretical situation. What if my publishing this guide leads to many people achieving an out of body experience in less than two weeks. Surely, they would tell their friends about it, and in a few months, a sizable portion of internet users would be passing the guide around until it comes to the attention of the media. More and more news sources talk about astral projection and lucid dreaming... The world slowly accepts that psychic powers are a reality.

The whole process of learning about astral projection and putting it into practice could take a few years... But all it takes for it to "boom" is for one big US news show to investigate it, and to report positive results, and instantly, it becomes reality.

I don't expect my tiny guide to make a difference, but I do expect that we will live to witness the scenario I have outlined above.

So, I'd like to open a discussion about how the world would end up if such a thing happened.

What would the impact be if the majority had access to astral projection?

Here's my take on it:

- Privacy disappears. Anyone can spy on anyone. Scandals erupt. All lies are exposed.
- The economy collapses. People cheat on lotteries and the stock market. People find oil, gold, etc... through psychic means. People steal company secrets, or personal information, credit card numbers, etc...
- Religions collapse. Anyone can become one with god and learn the truth about the universe. Ideological warfare begins. Extremists initiate a genocide, even a portion of american christians could potentially become violent -- just look at abortion clinics.
- Social inequity is established. People who have no psychic powers are at the mercy of those who do. Wise and enlightened beings cannot seem to outnumber the greedy and selfish.
- Life and death become irrelevant. Suicides become the number one cause of death.
- Life on earth loses its value, since anyone can become enlightened, there is no purpose to incarnating into a limited being.

Ultimately, this will cause all of humanity to "move on to the next level." But at what price?

What do you think? Should we let the world wither away slowly in its own ignorance, or should we raise awareness of psychic powers and risk the most chaotic and painful global event in the history of mankind?

Our physical world may seem as though it is extremely stable and permanent, but only our perception of it is. It's not actually much more permanent than the sound you make when you snap your fingers.

There is very little written material about creation. We have an infinite creative power, but we are limited by our physical forms. A dream world is just about as real as the physical world we live in, everything inside it "lives" as a subset of your inner self.

Consider this: Let's say you're in a lucid dream and you meet a man that you created subconsciously. That man is indeed alive. The totality of his self and his memories are defined by you. That man has a childhood, a life that feels like it happened in the past, but he did not really exist until you entered the dream, and even though he might live on to become an old man and die, you will never really know.

Time and space are illusions, in fact, everything that is ever thought up is eternal. If you create a world, its whole history will be written, from the big bang to the day it suddenly collapses on itself, in an instant. As a timeless being, you can enter this world at any moment you wish. Every time you enter the dream world, you modify the scenario, and "written history" will change.

This is the same principle that is in action in the physical, but our world is much more complex than the average astral realm. The history of the physical world is already written from A to Z, from the big bang to whatever is the end of the world. An astral entity snapped his fingers and the universe was created. By incarnating into life forms, we cause a "ripple" into the universe's history, and alter it. We pick a date, and we modify. The fact that millions/billions of entities have participated make this realm much more tangible -- the creator of the universe only created our physical vehicle, and the rest of us is independent. As such, we all have free will here, but dream entities do not necessarily have it.

Understanding that time and space don't exist is key in understanding the universe, but it's very hard to grasp at first... I know it took me a couple of months to get used to the idea.

As for movies and books.. Well, it's complicated... There is a "universe" (a ripple in reality) created for everything that anyone imagines. Since learning is based on copying information, and that each person's memory is separate, each person will create a subjective interpretation of anything they read/watch as a subset of themselves. What happens if people are aware of the existence of astral realms and decide to make the parallel world from a story "real," I don't know... I've never heard of it happening, but surely it's possible that a common realm could be created for fans of a specific movie, book, etc...

As for religious realms, I've never seen any direct descriptions of what they're like, but a lot of authors refer to them. Basically, when you die, you automatically go to whatever you believe is the afterlife. If you strongly adhere to a religion, you will usually be judged, and then someone that seems external to you will choose whether it's heaven or hell for you. Some people remain in their own subjective realm, unaware that they are actually free, others join those of the same religion in a plane designed for that very purpose. In the end, these realms serve as the first stage of after-death transition areas. Nobody typically stays there "forever."

The physical is a "fixed frequency" within the etheric band. There is a part of the etheric both above and below the physical.

The etheric itself is part of the astral. When you are in the etheric, you are not in the physical. Even the real-time zone is not 100% identical to the physical.

The astral is comprised of many layers, realms, etc... It contains worlds much like our own, where other entities live. It also contains "worlds that people's minds create," as you said. On higher levels of the astral, you have the belief territories (where religious people go) and other afterlife areas (rest areas/waiting areas).

Mental projection is a projection into your thinking processes... I'm not sure whether that can be called a plane... Everyone seems to have a different idea of it... I don't find the current literature very helpful in explaining what happens beyond the astral...

i wasnt asking anyone to prove anything, that wasnt the focus of my post. really, you avoided the whole subject of the post, not to be rude or anything.

i was looking more for feedback on the experience i had and suggestions on how to leave the body once at the stage i was at

That's the only part of the post I wanted to answer. For the rest, I wasn't sure what to answer... It doesn't seem like you have a problem with projecting or hit a dead end or anything... So I thought I'd let other people have a shot at it :p

I'm still not sure weither to believe it exists, im kind of sceptic because from what i see, a lot of people on here claim they can project and do so often. and i also read about how much knowledge u can get from the astral like from the aestik records (spelling?) or whatever, but yet theres no evidence anywhere of anyone stating things they found out from these records, and why not use that knowledge to help mankind?

It's impossible to prove OBEs over the internet. Anyone can make up anything.

As for predicting the future, it's -extremely hard-, even for the most experienced psychics.

I don't feel I owe proof to anyone, but I am writing a guide to teach others how to project, because I believe everyone should experience it at least once in their lifetime.

The proof is in the experience. Keep trying.

The second mind is what people often refer to as the subconscious.

I believe that the second mind is the non-physical (and biggest) part of our consciousness. The brain is merely a tool which interacts with this second mind in a very limited manner. When developing psychic abilities, we become in control of this second mind. The out of body experience is the process of phasing out of the physical mind and taking (partial) control of this "second mind."

It's from Robert Peterson's book:
http://www.robertpeterson.org/chap02.html

QuoteOne day we were talking about wrestling, and got on the subject of the world-famous wrestling hold called "the sleeper hold." The hold would knock an opponent out by cutting off blood circulation to the brain. Anyway, we all wondered what it would be like to be knocked out. FD was the strongest of the three and the third boy was afraid, so I agreed to let FD knock me out with a bear-hug.

We went outside and he gave me the strongest bear-hug I've ever experienced. I couldn't breathe and soon became unconscious. It was like waking from a dream; this world was a dream and I awoke to a reality more real and vivid than this world is. I saw the illusion of this existence on Earth dispelled! It faded away and I didn't regret it. Soon I found myself in the "real" world in a huge city that I already knew.

My memory seemed to return--Yes--I had gone to sleep and dreamed of a little place called "Earth" and now I was awake. "That was a silly dream" I thought, and I soon forgot all about "Earth." I continued my life, just like before I fell asleep. I lived in that fantastic city for years and years--centuries it seemed. I lived there so long that I COMPLETELY forgot all about Earth. For hundreds of years I had forgotten Earth. If someone was to ask me about it, I couldn't remember, since it happened so long ago.

Then one day I was walking to a store. Suddenly a confusing loss of direction hit me and I felt myself falling. Suddenly I opened my eyes only to see strange leaves, the sky and FD and the other boy looking at me! Where was I now? How did I get here? What happened? Then I remembered: Hundreds of years ago, I fell asleep and found myself here. This place was called "Earth" and was a part of a weird dream. I must have fallen asleep again. Slowly my Earthly memory returned. I asked the boys how long I had been unconscious. They said only a few minutes. They asked me what happened, and I told them I didn't want to talk about it.

Quitting smoking is a big test of personal willpower. At any moment, you can throw out your pack and stop.

If you overcome it alone, you can take on life without depending on others ; make it your first challenge.

Who here experiences "flashbacks" throughout the day?

I'm going through a phase where I'll see things around the house that will remind me of situations involving these objects that never actually occurred.

The first time it happened was a week after my first two OBEs (a few months ago), I grabbed my laptop and had a sudden flashback to a dream/OBE I had the night before where I walked on the laptop and broke it in half. I clearly remember trying to turn it on and noticing purple flashes coming from the cracked screen.

I went to the kitchen and had a sudden flashback of a dream/OBE where my mom visited me and was talking to me -- the conversation never physically happened.

This has happened sporadically throughout the months, but this week is particular... I'm having lots of non-physical memories that surface as soon as I see something related.

I got my wallet from the desk this morning, and had a flashback of a dream I had the night before where I had lost my wallet, and found it lying in the sand, half buried.

I went on facebook (www.facebook.com) and suddenly remembered a search I made while dreaming. I was looking to get in touch with a girl I met at the bus station in waking life, and while I was successful in finding her in the dream, when I tried looking for her today she wasn't in the search results.

I've been playing a video game for the past few days, and I just couldn't remember where the story had left off -- I played right before going to bed, and actually dreamt that I was still playing. Since it's a RPG, a lot of the actions are repetitive, so I dreamt that I continued the game from where I left off, and when I actually went to pick it up again in waking life, I realized I hadn't progressed since I put the game down... Logical, but the dream memories had somehow welded with real memories.

There's also a lot of disturbing memory anomalies -- remembering buying things I never actually bought (food-related), or looking for things in the wrong places because they were in different places in the dream.

Now, these problems are minor and not very bothersome, and I don't think they could escalate to a point where I'll wake up and believe that all my dreams were real events... What I'm wondering, though, is how common this is... Is it a common side effect of OBE practice or meditation?

Any idea if they are really flashbacks to dreams or created on the spot? Finding out the exact timeframe is difficult -- sometimes I won't know how "old" the dream memory is... I wonder if I'm experiencing sudden "mind splits" where I'm day-dreaming.

I'm working hard on developing clairvoyant abilities, but I'm not sure if this could be a sign that something is happening... I've read a lot about bringing consciousness outside of the body, but I've read very little about bringing higher consciousness into waking life, so I really don't know how to track my progress!

Any recommendations?

Welcome to Astral Consciousness! / Re: materilizing

I'm not entirely sure how he did it, I know the reason for his "powers" is a mix of "he's a high level being" and "he retained higher memories when he incarnated."

I do think it's possible for us to reach a certain level within our lifetime, but whether we can re-enact all the things he did is another question... I think because most of us are only visitors here, there may be a "rule" that prevents us from altering the fabric of reality in this world.

Then, the other "problem" is that with greater power comes greater wisdom -- I do think there are several extremely developed humans on this earth who are aware of their powers, yet refuse to use them. The earth experience just isn't about becoming ultra powerful and making the world perfect, it's quite the other way around.

We all go into trance (or other altered states) throughout the day. Your thinking processes are very much intertwined with your more "paranormal" innate powers. We are usually unaware of these "trance moments" until we start looking for them. Then they happen all the time, and we start realizing things that are second nature to us but that we just never noticed.

There's more to the whole spirituality thing than deep states of trance, there's just so many subtle things that happen during the day that we never really notice. When you practice for OBEs, you train yourself to detect and take advantage of them, it's all part of an "awakening process" where you maximize your brain's abilities by focusing on your mental state -- you start to hear things, see things, sense things.

Waking life side effects seem to be common among projectors ; I like Robert Peterson's description of them (the inner voice, precognition, clairaudience, etc...).

Haha, so it's pretty effective on you, happy to hear that!

Keep at it, I'm sure you'll have a fully conscious OBE in no time.

I've experienced many similar things. They ranged from being half-awake yet watching myself dreaming in the third person, to these weird episodes of having trouble leaving the body, and of course, a million dreams in a row instead of the usual 1 or 2 :)

All the stuff that is happening to you comes from your ability to witness what happens when you fall asleep, and it's pretty much the key to projecting. These things happen continously throughout the night, but we aren't usually aware of them, they disappear from our memory very fast, and we don't try to bring control into them.

I'd say you're on the right track, keep us updated.

I haven't had a chance to try yet because I had morning classes in the last two days, but I will most likely do it tonight.

To find audiobooks, try any file sharing service, look for "audiobook," and there should be little tags on the file names like [EN] [FR] [DE] [ITA] [SPA], etc.. Make sure you don't get anything that says "TTS" or "Text-to-speech" ; it means it's a computer generated audiobook with a very monotonous and annoying computer-like voice :)

Then all you need to do is put it on a mp3 player, either portable or on the computer, and you're good to go!

Oh, and to stay on the legal side of things, look for "Public domain" or "free." :P
