Welcome to Writers Corner! / Thank you Robert
June 22, 2003, 22:27:17
Dear Robert,

Thank you for the valuable information, effort and opportunity you are providing.  The e-book offer is...WOW!  A wonderful goal to work towards. Many will be encouraged by this.

Writing is an exercise in rejection and humilty.  It takes guts to step into this arena.  However, it also offers a deep connection with self.  I enjoy self exploration even when difficult. This will help pull me through...along with my pig headed determination[;)].

My story insisted on being told.  The struggle is to cut and polish my diamond in the rough.

I will put together the information you requested and in the form you prefer A.S.A.P. (once you repost it here). I read your recommendations but need to print them out to get it right.  Making an outline in this way is a good exercise but also by having a variety of outline styles I am more likely to be able to submit precisely what the agent or editor desires.  This will help when I attend the writer's conference in October.

Oh! And no way you're getting me to ask what's a piecost [pie cost].[:P] Hmmm! An intellects humour[8)] I see.  Watch myself I will [too bad you cannot hear my Yoda impersonation.[^]]

Deepest Respects,

Hi guys and gals,

I have a few British teens in my novel.  The dialogue does not include accents (too afraid of messing it up) but I want to throw sayings or slang into their dialogue.  Below is a short list. Could any of you UKers let me know whether:
- these are still used?
- the meanings right?
I am curious what you hear teens say.

Now remember I have evil guys in this novel so I can have some insulting phrases here as long as they don't have any sexual connotations...if you know what I mean.

Dead cert - dead certain
Gormless Wuss - silly person? ( I really liked this saying )
knackered - very tired?
beast - ugly
brill - for brilliant or excellent ( I like this )
cabbage - for someone slow or foolish

Thanks!

Dear Links Shadows,

How are things going with your meditation?  Public school is almost finished for the year (one more week) so family will be keeping me busy.  I will still check postings (or PMs) each night and answer questions to the best of my ability and with as much detail as you would like.  It is just I will not have much presence on the board for awhile.  We sort of started something with the meditation and I did not want you to feel you were left hanging.

Best Regards,

I wanted to share with you the best explanation of Heisenberg's uncertainty principle I have seen thus far.  Thanks Todd!
Here is the website the below excerpt is from:
http://www-theory.chem.washington.edu/~trstedl/quantum/quantum.html#Heisenberg

**************************************************
The Heisenberg uncertainty principle

People are familiar with measuring things in the macroscopic world around them. Someone pulls out a tape measure and determines the length of a table. A state trooper aims his radar gun at a car and knows what direction the car is traveling, as well as how fast. They get the information they want and don't worry whether the measurement itself has changed what they were measuring. After all, what would be the sense in determining that a table is 80 cm long if the very act of measuring it changed its length!

At the atomic scale of quantum mechanics, however, measurement becomes a very delicate process. Let's say you want to find out where an electron is and where it is going (that trooper has a feeling that any electron he catches will be going faster than the local speed limit). How would you do it? Get a super high powered magnifier and look for it? The very act of looking depends upon light, which is made of photons, and these photons could have enough momentum that once they hit the electron they would change its course! It's like rolling the cue ball across a billiard table and trying to discover where it is going by bouncing the 8-ball off of it; by making the measurement with the 8-ball you have certainly altered the course of the cue ball. You may have discovered where the cue ball was, but now have no idea of where it is going (because you were measuring with the 8-ball instead of actually looking at the table).

Werner Heisenberg was the first to realize that certain pairs of measurements have an intrinsic uncertainty associated with them. For instance, if you have a very good idea of where something is located, then, to a certain degree, you must have a poor idea of how fast it is moving or in what direction. We don't notice this in everyday life because any inherent uncertainty from Heisenberg's principle is well within the acceptable accuracy we desire. For example, you may see a parked car and think you know exactly where it is and exactly how fast it is moving. But would you really know those things exactly? If you were to measure the position of the car to an accuracy of a billionth of a billionth of a centimeter, you would be trying to measure the positions of the individual atoms which make up the car, and those atoms would be jiggling around just because the temperature of the car was above absolute zero!

Heisenberg's uncertainty principle completely flies in the face of classical physics. After all, the very foundation of science is the ability to measure things accurately, and now quantum mechanics is saying that it's impossible to get those measurements exact! But the Heisenberg uncertainty principle is a fact of nature, and it would be impossible to build a measuring device which could get around it.

For those who are interested in Shadow work this looks quite good. I listened to this guy on Art Bell and am planning to buy the book.

The book review is below.  It also deals with lucid dreaming, remote viewing, OBE.

There seems to be a deep desire born into each of us to be seen as special.  We rank ourselves intellectually, spiritually, physically and see ourselves as better or worse in this world.

What seems to be lacking is seeing how we serve this world -- immersing ourselves in the big scheme of things and trying to see how we are either making things better or worse.  Are we really helping?  What did I do to help someone near me today?  These questions are so very important for they shift us away for seeing ourselves as a special island.  They help shift us out of I vs. them another form of the dreaded us and them that I go on and on and on about. Sorry.

When we are born we immediately start defining who we are:
By how we are treated.
By our parents.
By the objects, opinions, people around us, nationalities, religion.
By our careers.
These are all strong attachments that help us see ourselves as 'this is me'.

Rapid change helps us not to define ourselves by our careers these days.  But there are so many more attachments to deal with.  How do we break them?

I find travel and immersing myself into another society helps break nationality, religious and opinion attachments.  AS long as I do not just trade opinions, religion and national attachments.  We seem to do that though sometimes.

I find getting out in the rugged outdoors with only rashins helps.  Really roughing it.  I use to do this a lot and would feel like I was walking out of the wilderness a new person.  Nature seems to help humble us too.  But this is an almost forgotten thing to do.  We are so disconnected from nature these days it is not funny.  After all there is so much to fear in the dark forest. I did not let limes disease keep me indoors.  I doubt west nile will either.

I found having a child really brought to full awareness the issues and attachments of childhood.  But one has to be willing to really look at all this carefully.  Teach your child that they are always loved...it is just that some of their behaviour is not acceptable. Show unconditional love but prepare your child for a very conditional world is a tricky task.

Good friends who let us know when we need to come down to earth, or need to be more thoughtful of others etc.

Meditation but many are well acquainted with this. And it does not work for everyone...hence the above list.

If we move away from I and them and us and them attitude and start breaking our attachments several things will happen.  We can see things more objectively.  We can look at various sides of an issue without feeling threatened and come to a greater understanding of All. We can increasingly overcome our fears and see our selves as part of the whole, the All, the One.  Instead of special islands or groups of islands that must prove themselves worthy of being in the ocean of life.  We are already special...no need to attach to anything to define that we are.

As you know many authors do not use their real name.  I am interested in ideas for a writing pen name for preteen to teen fantasy books.  It can be wacky, cool or very sane.  Have fun -- consider this a  brainstorming session. I'm looking forward to hearing your ideas.

Oh! Forgot to mention for those that do not know I am female -- so no James Tiberius Kirk names.

Many thanks,

Welcome to Spiritual Evolution! / Greatness?

I watched the movie recently.  I walked away with the following thought. (I left out the movie title since this may give away some of the plot.)

Some people are living to bring greatness to this world.  Others are living to be seen as great in this world.

At first glance the two may appear similar. However, the former enrich themselves and then enrich all those around them.  The latter enrich themselves and give to enrich themselves further.

Interesting concept because with this in mind an selfish, evil person might do good in this world.  Unfortunately it is usually to serve self and manipulate others -- lots of money and/or ego but one big vacuum inside.

So greatness is not always what it seems.

Looks like scientists studying Tibetan monks have discovered a brain trait that these monks have.  It may lead to new ways to stimulate happiness in people.  Interesting read, or rather was for me.

I came across this website in my voyages and loved it.  I thought I would share it with you.  If you are interested in Zen philosophy and the importance of open mindedness towards self you will probably like this.

Welcome to Spiritual Evolution! / Divine Will
April 06, 2003, 21:07:43
I love the practices they offer at this website.  In this lifetime I have done a lot of work with the second quality of divine will - the will to unify.  I think it can benefit just about anyone.  Take a boo if your interested.

I really like this quote.  It says a lot and is VERY thought provoking.  I like this because it puts into words why I have always felt God cannot be put into words.  As soon as we perceive we have missed the point.  To perceive is to pass information through the senses.  Language is based on perception.  God just IS.

******************************************************
"I had concentrated all the faculties of my soul.
When I looked into myself, I saw God in myself and
everything God ever created in heaven and on earth....

I have nothing to do with angels or saints or anything
that was ever created. More: I have nothing to do with
anything that has ever become word.... I am confirmed in
naked divinity, in which never image nor form existed.... I
am where I was before I was created; where there is only
bare God in God. In that place there are no angels or
saints or choirs or heaven. Many people tell of eight
heavens and nine choirs; where I am that is not. You should
know that all that is put into words and presented to
people with images is nothing but a stimulus to God. Know
that in God there is nothing but God. Know that no soul can
enter into God unless it first becomes God just as it was
before it was created.

"You should know, that whoever contents himself with what
can be put into words--God is a word, the kingdom of heaven
is also a word--whoever does not want to go further with the
faculties of the soul, with knowledge and love, than ever
became word, ought rightfully to be called an unbeliever.
What can be put into words is grasped with the lower senses
or faculties of the soul, but the higher faculties of the
soul are not content with this; they press on, further and
further, until they come before the source from which the
soul flowed....

"You must understand this thus: The soul is naked and bare
of all things that bear names. So it stands, as one, in the
One, so that it has a progression in naked divinity.... So
you should know that as long as the good person lives in
time, his soul has a constant progression in eternity. That
is why good people cherish life."

The above is taken from Buber, Martin, "Ecstatic Confessions," (San Francisco, Harper and Row Publishers, l985) Edited by Paul Mendes-Flohr, Translated by Esther Cameron, pp. 155-156.
*************************************************

So what do you think?  The unbeliever is a little harsh?  Or does the word unbeliever symbolize just how trapped we get in physical reality?

I was doing some research for my book and stumbled across this website.  It discusses some great topics.  Why we form attachments. How we become bound to mortal life. Ego. How to escape Maya (illusion). Very high cool factor![8D] Knowledge of the Gita (Hindu holy book) is not required. Though I must admit the Gita is my favourite holy book after the Bible.

Nope, nope sorry I must edit this post and correct myself.  This is way beyond cool.  This is totally freak me out awesome.  Get a load of the sacred texts from all sorts of religions that can be found here![:P][:P][:P]
