I too had stopped writing about anything that wasn't a full-fledged OBE, I just wasn't satisfied... But being "hard on yourself" only helps to create mental blocks!

I started going to bed with a notebook next to me again, and behold what I found written on it this morning:

House w/out death
Brokeback Mt
Some bar thingy

I remember writing that stuff, but hell if I know what they were about :p

NDEs do make it easier in the sense that they are first hand experience of a world beyond the physical body...

However, I don't know if it'll increase your abilities... I don't see a reason why it would :-s

The idea is that the physical is the farthest dimension from "The Source" we can find ourselves in.

When we project, indeed we project inwards, that is towards the source.

Moving about the etheric plane involves creating an energy double, as Robert Bruce puts it. The process consists in projecting "inwards" into the closest level, the etheric, and then projecting your consciousness in the form of energy, halfway between the astral and the physical.

As for projecting "inwards" as in "peering into our brains," this is pretty much what we do in unconscious dreams, although these dreams are only representative of a relatively small part of what's in there.

When accessing information from "databases" such as the akashic records, it's useful to create an "interface" that allows you to process things on the level of human comprehension. Some people create a small TV, or a library and pick out what they want to see.

I would guess that it would be a similar process to access ourselves, i.e. reconnect with past events from our lives which we have forgotten, or even events from past lives.

There's something I've always wanted to try, but haven't had the chance to yet, and it's to look for statistics about myself...

Have you ever wondered what it would be like if you suddenly found yourself in a room with each and every person you've ever talked to in your life? How about a room with all the food you've ever eaten? How about a list of all the good things you've ever done, and all the bad things you've ever done?

Surely there must be a way to "browse" ourselves and find out interesting things :p

Hmm... There's no eyelid movement during REM, otherwise it would be called RELM...

The fluttering eyelids usually happen when you start to lose focus and your eyes try to readapt. In order to prevent it, you need to avoid looking at the darkness behind your eyelids and concentrate on your wider range of vision, your mind's eye.

The spots and light patterns you usually start to see when meditating have a tendency to make you look in their direction, but what you need to do is see them, not look at them, because you do not see them through your physical eyes, they are merely responses from your brain as your focus shifts towards a part of your subconscious.

Just make sure you don't do anything illegal :)

As for the growing and shrinking impression, that's pretty common, I hear... I used to get that whenever I woke up from nightmares as a kid... I'm still not too sure what causes it, I would guess it is the equivalent of getting dizzy except it is not balance related, probably 3D-perception related.

The fact that you become aware of the "subconscious" (which isn't really a good term since it's so broad) is what is meant when one says "an altered state of consciousness."

http://www.whalemedical.com/ap1.html

It seems a lot of people get sensations there, and it seems to correspond to the assemblage point (or at least, that's the association people made with it)... Not sure how much truth there is to that...

I used to have a problem when I was younger, whenever I listened to music on headphones, for some reason, I would get intense tingling in my back, as you said "where my wings would be if I were an angel" -- right between the spine and the right shoulder blade.

It was mainly happening on songs that made use of surround sound to shift sounds from left to right. It seems it made my body awareness shift around my body, hence stimulating parts of the energy body. This created kind of an electric shock in the back which would have me jerk incontrollably...

The problem doesn't happen anymore, but I am able to stimulate that point using NEW, and it still does the same thing!

It seems the best thing to do is to follow Robert Bruce's advice -- it is a clear indicator that there is something there that isn't used to circulating energy, hence you have to stimulate it progressively until you do not feel any uncomfortable symptoms (i.e. clear the blockage there).

One exit does not mean you can exit at will... Keep practicing patiently, and eventually you will progress...
#360
I used to have that problem... I don't really remember how I 'cured' it... I think I was embarrassed and succumbed to self-imposed peer pressure... I kept trying to fall asleep with the lights off until I realized that... Well... There's really nothing to be afraid of!

For OBE practice, it's true that it's a good idea to turn off the lights -- it makes seeing and focusing on hypnogogics much easier.

I recommend that you start sleeping with less light than usual... For instance, instead of having a desk lamp turned on, turn on the lights outside your room and have the door half open, then, as you slowly lose the fear, close the door a little more each night.

If you really can't do without the light, just use a blindfold or these things they give you on airplanes that look like glasses (I forgot what they're called)...

It's all about putting yourself in the dark and showing yourself that there is no danger, nothing to be afraid of...

Many things have happened to me since I started energy work and OBE practice... Small things that I don't know how I should interpret... Am I good at sensing and influencing people's emotions, am I getting incredibly lucky, or did I just gain confidence? Why do good things suddenly happen to me? Why does everyone smile at me? Why do I get a positive answer to every request I make, no matter how much the odds are against me?

I feel that with the power to sense comes the power to influence. Use it to your advantage, and you will find that suddenly, everything ends up working out... You lose the stress, and you start radiating pure positivity...

It just works :O

Yeah, who's that Paul Curran guy?
#363
RJA, you've got it :)

This is something I've been thinking about a lot, and which has come to make me understand altered states of consciousness a lot better.

Visualization while wide awake, dreams, lucid dreams seem to all belong to the same group -- there is an "arbitrary reality" mind somewhere back there that we can't seem to handle too well... We'll input some info when we try to visualize something and it'll respond appropriately with images.

When we go into trance, we are much closer to this "background" mind, it seems that the images that are normally in the back become the foreground.

Add to that the "qualities" you bring into dreams... For example, you are in this alternate consciousness of yours, and you do not always have these particular reflexes of the physical consciousness such as fear, doubt, or even the intent to memorize.

Being able to shift your focus so that both the "arbitrary reality mind" and the physical consciousness work together is the key to many, many extra-sensory skills.

When you are out of body and entirely conscious, you have successfully brought the full extent of your human qualities with you -- if you don't, you won't have as much control.

This is the reason it's so hard to have control at the beginning... People come here and ask "what was that thing I saw?" And people reply "well, why didn't you simply ask while out of body?" -- the person did not forget to ask, nor did they "not think of it" -- they simply did not have the control required to make this decision.

The more control you have, the more control you actually have on both the physical and the subtle bodies... This means that there are great chances that you won't be able to control only the subtle body, and hence will have to "paralyze" the physical consciousness in order to experience the "beyond."

Many times, people will have extremely vivid, lifelike etheric projections where they are stuck in the physical, and when they manage to move, they wake up, because they are moving their physical body.

Beyond being able to trance, beyond being able to induce out of body experiences, there is a lot more work to be done on raw control, on the raw ability to express your will and transform thoughts into action, by being close enough to the physical that you remember the experience and bring along your logical mind, but by being detached enough that you have the freedom required to do what it is you want to do.

I have yet to find sources that explain it that way... Some say that "the dream mind is always active even when awake" ; but they still insist that dreams and lucid dreams are completely separate events from projections, when in fact everything seems to indicate that they are all the same phenomenon at different levels of memory, awareness, lucidity.

The phasing model is very close to this, but it's very... Abstract... Vague...

What's this devil thing you speak of?
#365
Enlightenment is the realization that the self is not limited, plain and simple.

I can't make it any clearer than this.
#366
Yeah, it's the basic trance method, but it's not effective for beginners ; this gives you only one try, and if you fall asleep, you'll have to try again the next day...

That's the reason I started looking into alarms and such -- make an alarm sound every 20 or 30 minutes to ensure that you don't fall asleep for too long. The more tries you get a night, the faster your development will be... The results are truly amazing.

Everything has a soul, including rocks, supposedly. This is because the physical universe is part of the consciousness of the creator, and as such, everything is energy...

Remember that consciousness does not necessarily indicate visible behavior or the capacity to think.

The problem is that we tend to view our own consciousness as just one entity, as if we had just one soul... But our consciousness can be split... We can experience different focuses of consciousness at the same time.

"Spirit" is uncountable. "Spirit" is what we refer to when we say that "God is everywhere" -- every single atom in the physical universe possesses an infinity of it.

When it is applied to a living organism, this "spirit" is given the ability to specialize, to think, to become aware of its surroundings, to experience, etc...

I am inclined to think that energy work is in fact the specialization of this "spirit" ; the specialization is triggered by shifting your awareness towards a specific point of the body, and using this dormant "spirit" to your advantage.

If you weren't physically doing it, then yes.

Haha, I had Oblivion dreams too!

I would be in a "normal" dream with people I know in real life, and out of nowhere I'd find a sword on the floor, put it in my pocket (without hurting myself) and carry on with the dream as if nothing happened!

Also, a lot of the hypnogogic imagery I got were doors from the game, but oddly enough, they were mostly the satanist looking doors from the Oblivion plane's towers rather than those from the villages :O It's too bad I wasn't able to keep them there long enough to walk through them...

You have bought these weapons to protect yourself... But what is your biggest fear? Is it the people invading your home, or is it the fact that one day you might be forced to use these weapons in your home?

Anyone would be afraid of turning their house into a murder scene... We all know one day we might end up being attacked or stolen from, and we take measures to prevent it from happening, such as putting locks and alarms on our house.

But if it does happen despites the security measures, you'll have to take an extra step, which is to manually remove the intruders.

Do you feel ready?

Perhaps these dreams reflect those fears, and you are conditioning yourself, preparing yourself for the day it will happen. If it ever does come, that is.

Just like someone else has the power to block you, you have the power to block them from blocking you.

This isn't Dragon Ball Z, there's not "more powerful" people, just people who are more aware of their inner strength and willpower than others.

If you refuse to be blocked, if you refuse to believe that anyone can block you, you will not have any trouble.

If you don't feel you are up to it, you can call on the help of others. There is no limit to what you can experience in the astral, especially not due to a selfish person's ill intent.

The core element would be energy. The "logical" path we take is that of higher energy. As we raise the vibrations of the earth, new energies are created, and this is how the universe evolves.

"More advanced" extra terrestrial species work towards this goal, and so do we, but to a lesser extent, since an overwhelming majority of humans are not aware of this.

Our higher self took part in this, and it is our duty to realize it. From what channeled entities say, humanity has strayed away from its original path by living an illusion, the illusion that the self is limited.

We are on the right path, and supposedly, we should help other humans realize what is going on.

"Punishment" would not be such a good way to put things in my opinion, since it is a very human notion... We are afraid of punishment, and this is how most religions drive us towards good deeds, but in actuality, you wouldn't feel the difference between incarnating as an animal and incarnating as a human -- you are entering a physical body without conscious memory of your higher self, and it is done all for the sake of the universe's balance and evolution. It is not punishment, but rather an adjustment of energies... It does not bear the negativity of punishment.

An excerpt from Rosalind McKnight's book, "Cosmic Journeys: My Out of Body Explorations with Robert A. Monroe"

This is something that a channeled entity said through McKnight under supervision of Robert Monroe:

"Many souls work unconsciously on different levels during their sleep state. These traveling sleep helpers work with souls in the body and out, for healing and regeneration. These are souls who work consciously with the earthbound souls; there are also those who are not aware that they work with such souls during their sleeping state.

[...]

The souls that work on different levels in their sleep state can ask, while they are in a level of relaxation, what they do to help others while they are sleeping. If this question is asked before going into the sleeping state, then more awareness of the nature of the work done in this state will be received--if indeed the soul does 'moonlighting' in the true sense of the word.

However, it is not always important to be aware of the work done, because often the souls that are involved in the awakening of other soul levels are entities who are working intensely in the earth body during the waking state. Many are in the helping professions, and many are in the helping consciousness."

Interesting, huh?

Has anyone tried doing this? I'm going to ask tonight :D

This keeps happening to me when meditating, and indeed I think it has to do with balance... I get a lot of nauseating pseudo-movement impressions when I try for a wake induced OBE... The main reason seems to be that I'm laying on my back when I do it...

I'm not really used to sleeping on my back, so it's a rather unnatural posture for me, but sitting with my eyes closed and losing sensation of my neck gives me this deep feeling of disorientation... Sometimes I'll start spinning, or I'll have the feeling that I'm floating up or down, as other people often report...

But the thing is those sensations are nowhere near separation sensations, the way I would describe it is that the part of the brain that's in charge of keeping your balance just goes haywire... It starts rotating or moving around because it can't seem to find where it is... And so instead of being a good thing, it ends up making me sick for the next 20 minutes... I thought it'd wear off eventually, but I guess I fall into the "weak of heart" category :p

I don't know why the natural response to this is nausea... I mean, evolutionarily speaking, why would vomiting help if you're spinning out of control? Maybe the body assumes you're being attacked by some kind of wrestling monkey, and vomiting in its eyes is the only way to save yourself? :-D

I can relate to what knightlight said, I too had problems with my inner ear... I was going through a phase where I was pretty depressed, and it affected me so deeply I was unable to keep my balance... I tried to get dressed and I would just find myself on the floor before I could understand what was happening... The feeling is very similar to what I had when I closed my eyes, I had to keep my eyes half open when I wanted to sleep, otherwise I would lose my balance and get nauseous, start twitching, etc...

And I'm not done talking yet! Let's make this a novel :-D

The spinning, as silly as it sounds, was probably a trial for you, Selski, in the sense that we often get these kinds of trials in dreams and OBEs -- something out there is testing our willpower. It is putting us in a situation where we seem to be losing control when in fact we have full control over the situation. The more you run into such trials, the better you'll be at controlling your astral adventures, but it is not limited only to the astral.

You will find that it will have an impact on your everyday life too. By learning willpower, we learn to will things, we learn to see the unseen ; it is a very important part of learning extra-sensory perception, telepathy, telekinesis, etc...

Hmm.. to keep writing or to go watch Conan........ Conan, I choose you!

This could possibly be what some authors call "soul groups."

This is related to reincarnation and the theory that we have come to Earth in order to learn and perfect our beings. The problem is that by choosing to come to Earth, we have also consciously chosen to forget who we used to be (temporarily -- when you die, you should regain full consciousness of who you used to be, including all your other lives, past and future).

Soul groups are groups of souls that are related to each other in the Earth experience (or "before" the Earth experience). Usually, they will choose to incarnate in such a way that they will meet each other and have their experiences together on Earth. Their mission is to learn together, to help each other evolve spiritually.

A soulmate is someone who is part of the same soul group as you. Before coming to Earth, you have consciously chosen a life so that you would, at some point, meet and experience lessons together.

This group of "lights" you have met are quite possibly your soul group. I don't know how to interpret the experience... They asked you if you wanted to join them... Perhaps they are inviting you to join their group, or perhaps they are preparing you for something.

You will definitely meet them again. Some time.
