I originally wrote this:

http://www.kiwibonga.com/OBE14.pdf

It's a guide to have a conscious OBE in 2 weeks or less

The information in that document isn't entirely accurate, so disregard anything odd about it... But the core idea remains what I think is a very effective technique to attain the expanded levels of awareness required to have out of body experiences.

I am in the process of writing a new version of it. The timeframe remains an ambitious 2 weeks, but the methods change slightly to include my alarm clock experiments, and I need to clear up a few things, to define the goals of the methods more clearly.

The reason I wanted to write this is because books and methods by experienced projectors simply are not enough -- these authors in my mind cannot be good teachers because they do not outline their own development in enough detail...

In order to teach, there needs to be something to guide the "average left-brained joe" and nothing can be left to luck. It's all about finding fail-safe methods.

Would your program include relaxation exercises?

Yes. Controlling our sleep is the first step in controlling our other "levels of consciousness," therefore learning how to properly relax and fall asleep quickly is one of the key points. The relaxation exercises that people do before attempting to project can also be used by so-called insomniacs. In the program, I help people re-learn how to fall asleep so that they better understand the principles that are at work.

Would you include energy-raising exercises?

No, not in a guide for beginners. Manipulating energy is very useful for the intermediate level, to lengthen projection time, to develop clairvoyance and other abilities, but it does not seem to be a requirement for the first few projections.

Would you include trances as a cornerstone?

Yes. Exercises meant to "build up the awareness muscle" make it very easy to reach the trance state, even unintentionally. I would say that by the time someone finds themselves in a trance as a result of the exercises, it is time to attempt a conscious projection.

Would you recommend a certain diet?
Would you recommend certain times of the day?

No. My motto is "if you can fall asleep, you can project," so it's the person's choice when they should attempt to project, and what they should eat before they do.

Would you recommend mantras or affirmations?

Yes. But my affirmations are not standard, they are not meant to try and talk to your subconscious. They consist in imagining yourself out of body throughout the day and reminding yourself of how important it is that you record everything that is happening and bring your memories back with you. In other words, it's not really affirmations, more like "practice" or "premeditation."

Would you recommend prayer or rituals?

No.

Would you recommend sexual abstinence?

No.

How likely do you think the average person would be to have success if they tried your program?

Highly likely, since the program is aimed at the average person.

OBE in 2 weeks, it will happen :-)

Yes, by all means, read the trilogy...

I didn't find the first book that interesting, mainly because most of what is talked about is considered more or less obsolete, and also because it's pretty "standard" OBE stuff -- it's a good read nevertheless.

It's Far Journeys and Ultimate Journey that truly "take the cake" -- reading these books has been a life changing experience for me. I think reading the first book is interesting to understand the background, also he makes references to his first book that you might not get without reading it (there is some time travel involved which explains experiences from the first book, but I won't spoil it for you).

If you guide hasn't appeared, it may be because you don't need to meet it yet, or because a proper moment to contact you hasn't come up...

But you should not limit yourself to "guides." In Far Journey, Monroe explains the sudden changes that occured in his Hemi-Sync experiments when he added this to the "Gateway Affirmation:"

QuoteAlso, I deeply desire the help and cooperation, the assistance, the understanding of those individuals whose wisdom, development, and experience are equal to or greater than my own. I ask their guidance and protection from any influence or any source that might provide me with less than my stated desires.

The important point here is that he's not asking for a guide, or a guardian angel, or anyone in particular -- he seeks guidance, plain and simple.

I originally wrote a big post, but decided to delete the rest. Meeting your "guides" is a very important personal journey, and it is something you need to think about on your own... I wouldn't want to influence anyone's adventure.

Oh, I see...

This is what most refer to as teleportation... You place part of your consciousness into another place (plane/dimension/location/locale/focus level/whatever) and shift your whole astral body over there.

This is pretty much what people say when they describe teleportation -- you think of a place, and will yourself there.

Some people like to create portals or draw doors with their astral fingers, and when they go through, they find themselves in the place of their choice.

It all comes down to the same principle: you create kind of a "wormhole" from your current location to the destination.

In Monroe's case, he uses part of his consciousness as a grappling hook, he stretches, and pulls.

I've had an experience where I decided to go visit my grandfather, who passed away a few years ago. I didn't really think about how I would visit him, I just turned around, and there was a hole in the wall. Inside that hole, there was a hotel room, with my grandfather sitting up in a bed. All I had to do was fly up into that hole and I found myself there.

I'm still not sure whether it was truly a full-fledged OBE or a creation of the mind, but I did not create that hole intentionally, it just happened naturally when I thought "Let's go see grandpa!"

Isn't the quick-switch the shift in consciousness from the physical to the etheric body, followed by a projection?
#406
I think saying that we are born without limitations would be a mistake -- in any given text that talks about reincarnation, you'll notice that you are placing your consciousness (or part of it) into a living organism, and make a conscious wish not to recall anything outside of the physical reality.

Before there can be conscious intention of using your powers, you will need higher knowledge (knowledge of more than just the physical aspect of the world around us) -- this is not something a baby can grasp easily.

Young children do however have extra sensory perception. I remember my sister used to still pet an invisible cat weeks after it was run over by a car -- we never actually told her the cat was dead. I talked to her about it recently and she said the cat -was- there... I don't want to rule out muddy memories or invisible friend theories, but this is the kind of stuff that illustrates the "second loss" we experience a few years after birth.

First, we lose our knowledge at birth, and slowly as we grow up, we lose our extra sensory perception (and perception is all we have at first).

I read that trying to look at the card was not an effective way to do verification because of the potential fluctuations -- asking to know what the card is and waiting for information to be imprinted in your memory seems to be the way to go, as it removes any left-brain interference when you try to read the card.

The big problem with cards is that they're much like trying to read in the astral. If you're left brained, you'll try to make out the characters one by one, then create words, then arrange them into sentences so it all makes sense, but when you go to read the sentence again, none of it makes sense, and every word seems different! The trick is to tap into "universal knowledge" and receive information, as if the piece of paper, or card, or whatever medium you are reading from, was sending you a telepathic message. You will get much more than what you asked for in some instances, as well!

But it's true that sometimes, people do not fully project and just lucid dream -- this has been the case many times for me. If you've read Monroe's books, in the second book he mentions that he observed the separation process more closely since the first book, and the separation occurs in two steps: First, you "unhook" from the physical and go into the "Second body" and then you project into a third vehicle of sorts.

This is the same as what Robert Bruce says ; you shift your consciousness into the etheric/energy body, which is firmly attached to the physical, and then project an energy double out of that body.

It seems that a lot of people think that sleep paralysis is a biological phenomenon where certain chemicals block your muscles to not only slow down your breathing and heart rate, but also to prevent you from moving while sleeping... I personally believe that there is more to it -- I will go as far as to say that sleep paralysis is when your consciousness is seated in the etheric body.

What you need to do is recognize the difference between a full fledged out of body experience and an "etheric body experience" ; when you are in the etheric body, you cannot move away from your physical location unless you send out an energy double. The natural response to being stuck is to create a dream situation in which you are being sat on or attacked by something that prevents you from moving -- if you do not wake up immediately and if you "defeat your personal demon," you will soon be free to move around, but you will not actually be roaming the Real Time Zone. You will be in your dream world where things might seem like they are like in real life, but as soon as you go into unknown territory, everything becomes different from reality.

I've read about people who said that all it takes for them to project while in a lucid dream is to "feel for their body" and then ask their higher self to project them out.

When reading books, you will have to choose whether to be skeptical or whether to blindly believe everything that is said. It is important to remain objective yourself -- the more you read, the more you learn about others' subjective experiences. For each one of us, there is different symbolism, different beliefs, different experiences. A lot of people tend to experience "trials" -- they are put into dream situations where they are taught a lesson. In the early stages of your development and personal experiences with astral projection, those trials will be very common, and as you learn from them, they will slowly become less and less frequent.

Authors like Robert Monroe, Robert Bruce, Robert Peterson, have documented many of their experiences, they have left the body thousands of times. They seem to be unanimous on one thing: reality fluctuations gradually stop happening as you become more experienced.

It's indeed a good concern to wonder how much is true, how much is objective... Remember that each of us have the power to verify what is said ; all we need to do is project and see for ourselves!

As for moving objects... You will probably come to learn that there is not a single question starting with "Is it possible to..." that doesn't have "yes" as the answer. Right now you could point your finger at something and have it blow up right in front of you.

Did you try it? Did it work? Probably not... Our inability to do whatever we want is very analogous to phobias... You just can't tell yourself that you're not afraid anymore. In just the same way, you just can't tell yourself that you now have superpowers... You need to go through rigorous training, psychological training. We all have this very special power, we can manipulate anything we want, create matter from nothing, shoot energy beams from our hands like in japanese manga... It takes a lot more than knowing, and the simple intention to learn how to master these innate skills is what will put your personal journey in motion.

If your intentions are clearly defined, I wouldn't be surprised if you met an out of body teacher of some kind -- let your desire for higher knowledge guide you. Things will not be handed to you, and very often you will find that it is not the end result, but the journey itself that is the most valuable.

Quote1) After working with NEW, how long has it taken you to actively feel out your energy? (EX: Better feel of it flowing through you)

I started doing Robert Bruce's exercises from Astral Dynamics when I read the book, which was about a month ago. Last week I started feeling energy sensations clearly. Just yesterday I had a partial exit (found myself seated in the energy body but did not manage to separate) and ever since I've been able to feel energy rushing through my sub-navel chakra in a much more pronounced manner.

Quote2) What is the benefit of developing the full-body circuit and can it change you? How did you change?

No changes I could perceive so far... It's too soon.

Quote3) How much do you think has your personal energy has increased since you've started this program?

I'm not sure, really... While I'm able to feel it much better, I can't say I got any results from it...

Quote4) Is energy automatically raised when you store energy into your Sub-Navel, or do you have to do any extra directing on your part from that point on? (EX:if you into martial arts, taking the energy from your sub-navel and directing it towards your arm)

The sub-navel center starts bubbling actively, the energy goes up through my legs and into it, then I have to actively pull that energy up through the upper body chakras myself. When I do this, the whole body feels energized.

Quote5) What else have you noticed that is different?

Up until now I was rather skeptical about my free-over-the-internet Kundalini Reiki attunements, as is understandable... I tried doing the Kundalini Reiki meditation, and I was able to distinctly feel each chakra being cleansed, burned and filled with new energy...

When the "flame" went through the sub navel, I could definitely feel a burn, like a very gentle burn, then it went up to the heart chakra and my lungs were burning... Something seems to have happened there. This morning, my lungs are stuffy... Either I've got a cold, or they've started cleansing themselves of all the crap I put them through (namely, smoking)...

Time will tell!

Quote6)Since starting, have you felt a little more powerful that usual? (Not just in terms of strength."Active" too. Like, are you less lazy).

Can't say energy work helped with this... Maybe it did, but I tend to get my motivation from other things...
#409
It's nothing magical or energetic... You could have a tape playing a tone constantly next to you and concentrate on that...

It's just that it's impossible to concentrate on silence, pretty much because there's never real silence, there'll always be a noise, and if it doesn't come from outside, it'll come from within you. By concentrating on a constant sound like the ringing of your ears, you allow yourself to lose track of time and space, and that's the best way to reach an altered state of consciousness.
#410
Well, have you really been able to listen to the sound continuously, without ever thinking of anything else at all, making your mind empty of all thought besides this sound?
#411
Quote from: El-Bortukaliusing it to obe?,ah I've tried concentrating on the sound to see what would happen but nothing ever happened.
3  minutes you said?,i wasn't counting

You need to restart the counter as soon as you stop listening to it :)

It's a technique for meditation, really, about as effective as breath awareness...
#412
But the simple thought of sexual content obviously is not going to trigger an OBE -- it is however a great way to soothe the mind.

I think the trick is to reproduce an orgasm in your mind, a state of pure bliss where you are receiving no sensations besides pure energy. Use this sensation to "phase out" of the physical.

The problem is the amount of time you can focus on it... I guess it's similar to what Robert Peterson says about that faint ring in your ears -- according to him, if you manage to stay concentrated on that sound for 3 minutes straight, you will have an OBE... It's all about discipline and focus in the end, and it takes a tremendous amount of practice!

I don't know if you've ever tried focusing on that sound... I don't think I've ever managed to get past the 5 second barrier :P

I took a "normal nap" today instead of doing my weird alarm clock experiments, and I'm quite amazed at what's happening to me ; my dream mind is completely separate from my main point of consciousness...

Basically, my dream happened in the third person. I was a more or less passive observer, I could see myself doing things, and had some kind of separate, internal dialogue going on, kind of like a commentary of the dream... A bit like when you're watching TV and thinking things to yourself...

There were times where I was trying to influence this "me" that I was watching... For instance this "me" was on top of a moving subway train, and I was trying to tell "me" to get down, but "me" couldn't hear anything I said...

I guess the good news is there is definitely a shift in consciousness happening... But what do I do with that? Has anyone experienced similar things? How do I use this to my advantage?
#414
Ah, that's great!

I'll try his timer next time.

Last night was a failure... I ended up not using 1000Hz as the frequency, I used 3000, which sounds exactly like a smoke detector! That stuff really wakes you up!

I did experience very strong vibrations halfway through the night, but my concentration eventually broke... Better luck next time, I guess.
#415
Yes, as a matter of fact my first conscious (and rather spontaneous) series of projections happened during a very busy week at university -- I had assignments left and right, not to mention the deadline for one of my freelance translation jobs coming rapidly... I had to take afternoon naps and set up a draconian sleep and work schedule in order to do everything on time..

I think there's definitely something about wanting to wake up that triggers some kind of reflex to get out there... I have experienced similar false awakening episodes in the bus or train, I would doze off and dream that I was getting off the bus/train... This is pretty much what I based my "research" on for the techniques I recommend (namely the arm trick and the alarm clock program) -- along with the intent to remain alert, there needs to be outside interference, a wake up call of some kind...

I've also noted something regarding my use of the program -- it's very important to change the pitch of the ring every other night ; today I set up 1 ring every 30 minutes for a 4 hour nap and did not get woken up by any of them besides the first one. I suspect that my brain has gotten used to the sound and acknowledged it as "background noise" ; I recall several of the alarms but they did not make me alert at all, my mind just went "oh, it's just the alarms I set up" and went immediately back to sleep. I have been using the same 2500Hz sound since I began the experiment 4 days ago... I'll lower the frequency to 1000Hz but make the sound longer (I noticed frequencies below 1500Hz don't seem to make me alert until the 20th ring or so)...

I have no dream memories either, since I did not get to wake up and play them back before attempting to project -- heck, I did not even get to attempt a projection.

If this proves to be too much of a problem, I'll make the program generate new tones randomly, and perhaps, as you suggested, with a certain "margin of error" on the interval between rings (randomly add or remove +/- 10 minutes each time). I am not sure how effective random patterns would be -- would they have a tendency to startle and hence "spoil" the experiment, or do they guarantee that the ring works every time? -- it's worth experimenting.

Will post more results soon!

By any chance, is there something you did in your life that you regret greatly, or something that caused you great sorrow that you still haven't come to terms with?

It seems many people end up in places they don't recognize or places they don't want to be in due to some kind of unresolved issue, a state of unrest in your higher self, perhaps...

Heck, it could even be something from a past life.

Next time you experience this, don't panic. Make every effort to communicate, to willfully refuse this movement that is being forced on you, and once you have resisted this force, go into an understanding phase... Ask lots of non-rethorical questions.

Mentally prepare yourself before going, "rehearse" what you're going to do.

It is also quite possible that you are experiencing something similar to sleep paralysis demons -- people actually see and hear beings sitting on their chest or back, preventing them from moving (they are in reality creations of the subconscious mind). Perhaps you are experiencing "astral blindness" and this is how your subconscious reacts.

If that is the case, perhaps you should try to will yourself a bit farther from your body. It seems a lot of cases of astral blindness are due to interference from the physical body, and simply moving away (a few meters) will allow you to experience your full senses.

Hope this helps..

I just noticed this topic, I can't believe I missed it!

I've created a program that rings during the night: http://www.astralpulse.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=22822

The idea is similar to what TVOS said -- the state you are in when you wake up and still need to sleep is basically the best state to plunge back into trance and become aware of the "second body."

The program rings for a set amount of time so that you absolutely do not need to move in order to turn off the alarm... You just wait for it to stop ringing, and you're ready to give it a go.

So far, every time the ring has woken me up (and that's about 5 to 10 times every night), I have managed to remember a dream. Some dreams were vivid, others were mainly "garbage thoughts" -- i.e. different images that don't seem connected in any way.

I don't know if there have been any follow ups on this technique outside of this topic... TVOS, do you still do experiments with alarm clocks?

I have not yet had a successful projection with this technique, but I did mention in the thread I linked to above that this has "muscled" my awareness, and allowed me to remain in trance for about 30 minutes the other day with both the dream mind and the physical mind active (actually, it lasted exactly from one ring to the next).

Just yesterday, I woke up to an alarm and decided to try the rope technique... I was sleeping on my side, yet I had this feeling that I was looking towards the ceiling. When I started to pull on the rope, it felt as though the rope was being pulled upwards. I separated briefly and as soon as it happened, I "crashed" back into my body -- I got excited again! Further attempts were unsuccessful, I was waiting for that unexpected pull to happen again but it just wouldn't happen, so I went back to sleep.

I am off to try it some more... Unfortunately, the past two days have not given much results... I had a really difficult time falling asleep (took almost a full hour). I think the excitement created by this 30-minute trance has hindered my ability to stay calm and composed... The rope episode from last night was encouraging, but still a bit disappointing.

Quote from: upstreamI wonder what comes next, maybe "flying backwards with closed eyes while defecating and tinkling in the astral?"

I've done that, it was exhilarating.
#420
Yeah, that works too...

I'm going to expand the program soon to play WAV files and to allow you to make lists of "events" ; this way it'll be like a customizable soundtrack, pretty much.

If I were to make it output MP3 files, I think I would need to port it to C/C++ ; but I'll most likely only do that if the program turns out to be popular and "works..."

For now that's my primary focus -- seeing if it's an effective method for more than just myself...
#421
Sorry for bumping, but...

Has anybody tried this yet?

I'm getting some pretty good results so far. About 10 minutes after one of the rings today, I went into a trance and dwelved into a dream. It was a rather unique feeling... I knew I was awake, but at the same time I was dreaming. I did not have conscious control of either the physical or the dream mind... I was just in this half-asleep trance state. It was pretty interesting... When I "woke up" (i.e. came to my senses, rather ; I didn't fall asleep), I had two memories ; one of lying down in bed, and a dream memory.

I think the program is indeed working the way I intended it to work, an effective "trance tutor" of sorts.

The best part is, it doesn't make you as tired as I expected it to... Yesterday, I slept for 7 hours, 4 of which involved rings every 30 minutes, and I didn't wake up feeling all groggy and tired.

With it, I've gone from one or two dream memories a night to one dream memory every 30 minutes. Each time, I replay the dream in my mind, and if it wasn't an OBE, I "throw it away" -- it's really fun to select which dreams you want to save and which ones you don't!

So, I highly recommend you give it a try, and give me some feedback :O
#422
I swore at an entity who was holding me down during sleep paralysis (most likely mind-created in response to the paralysis)... It made him laugh, then he put his mouth really close to my ear and said "F*** you" in a playful tone...

I think curses just don't carry over to telepathic communication -- in my experience, situations that would require strong words usually generate "shock waves" of emotion, kind of like a big bubble expanding from the center of your body and hitting everything nearby...

This is how I perceive it, anyway...
#423
Lucid dreams are mostly believed to be OBEs that are polluted by the subconscious (the imagination) -- you do not wish for things to be there, they just are.

Something that is also very common is to start out in an "objective world" -- you witness the physical world as it is in reality -- but slowly, you'll drift into a "subjective world" -- a dream world of sorts.

This is all about focus and intentions. The more you focus on observing and noticing rather than interpreting, the higher your chances of staying in the objective world (commonly referred to as the "real time zone").

To answer your question: it seems you had spontaneous OBEs. The exit symptoms with vibrations hint at that. The reason you saw those buildings that weren't there lie mainly in your subjective perceptions. It is extremely hard to witness the "real" world... Usually for beginners it'll take just a few seconds before reality starts to fluctuate. It's all a matter of experience, usually.
#424
I thought I'd post this here as well...

QuoteI made this tonight...

http://www.kiwibonga.com/DreamAlarm_0.1Beta.zip

It's a beta, it might be buggy, etc... So don't blame me if your eyes fall out of their sockets as a result of using this program... But do submit a bug report and suggestions :)

This program is designed to wake you up during the night at regular intervals to make sure you can't ever reach deep sleep. Obviously, don't use it if you want to feel rested the next day.

Waking up and drifting back to sleep without having to move to stop the noise is a great way to induce lucid dreams and/or false awakenings. It is my belief that Robert Monroe experienced his first OBEs as a result of being disturbed in his sleep by the tapes he was playing when studying "sleep-learning."

The difference between you and Monroe (at the time), though, is that you know what lucid dreams and OBEs are, and you're prepared to experience them.

This program is not primarily meant as a method that'll help you exit the body or have lucid dreams per se... It is more of an "awareness enhancer" -- it will help you practice trance without having to do the "arm technique," and will give you more OBE attempts each night you use it.

Press "Test ring" in order to hear the alarm in advance. Finetune it with the different controls, and make sure it is sharp enough to wake you up, but not annoying to the point that it'll prevent you from going back to sleep.

When you get woken up, wait for the alarm to finish. You are in the perfect state to reach trance in a matter of seconds. Trance is the state between awake and asleep state, your mind is half awake, and your body's half awake. You want to offset that balance by awaking the mind but making the body go to sleep. Assuming that you don't move and are ready to fall asleep right away, you will get a nice chance at leaving the body or controlling a lucid dream.

NOTE: This software uses the PC speaker. This is the device that goes "beep beep" when you first turn on the computer. It does not use the regular speakers. This is because it's much easier to program, and it sounds like an alarm on everyone's system. You need to enable on-board sound if it's disabled.

This software caters mainly to people who have a PC in their room... sorry, other people :)

Eventually, I'll make this compatible with regular speakers, and later on, hopefully, it will be possible to create MP3s (or WAVS :/) of a full night of alarms for earphone use.

Explanation of the controls:

Minutes between rings: the number of minutes the program waits between two rings. Default value: 30 minutes. Make this about as long as you think it'll take you to fall back asleep after each alarm, and add some extra time for the eventual OBE/lucid dream. It should take about 1 or 2 minutes for most people to fall asleep again... I think a value between 20 and 40 minutes is optimal for most.

Total number of rings: the number of times the alarm will actually ring.

Minutes before first ring: the number of minutes before the first alarm's ring. Set this so that the alarm doesn't start ringing until about 10-20 minutes after you are sound asleep. If you think you'll be asleep in 30 minutes, set this to 40-50 minutes.

The formula to find out the total duration of the experiment is: [time before first ring] + [number of rings - 1] * [time between rings]

i.e. if you set the waiting time to 60 minutes, set an interval of 30 minutes, and set it to 10 rings, you will get 60 + 30 * 9 minutes = 5.5 hours

Beep frequency: This controls the frequency (pitch) of the alarm sound. When you move the slider you'll hear a little preview of the actual sound. It's fun to move the slider and try to play music! Lower values give lower sounds, higher values give higher sounds. Higher pitched sounds are louder, but low pitched sounds are scarier. Find a sweet spot! (Note: 440 Hz for the computer's error sound, 900 Hz for the bootup sound)

Beep duration, time between beeps, number of beeps: These three controls are meant to allow you to shape your alarm ring. The beep duration corresponds to the length of each individual beep, in milliseconds (thousandths of a second). The time between beeps is pretty self explanatory, but this one is in tenths of a second. The number of beeps is also self explanatory.

Make sure you gauge these settings so that it rings long enough to wake you up (and it can take up to 10-15 rings if you're tired!), but not so long that you'll be wasting precious trance time waiting for the alarm to stop.

I hope this will be useful to some people. Please do post your results if you decide to try it!

The effects of each drug are pretty different... The symptoms they have on your alertness and consciousness carry over to the astral... Your mind will be muddy, and in the case of drugs that strengthen paranoia, you will definitely see mind-created demons... (unless you have gotten rid of your personal demons already)
