I gave my old PC to my grandmother and it still has the 95 office programs. I think I will try the hall of tortured souls thing next time I'm down there.

Yes, now that you mention it, it is always unexpected.
I have felt muted pain when it's been expected and extreme pain when it's been expected, so I can only explain the pain levels to my current state of mind.

Welcome to Dreams! / Pain anyone?
July 04, 2004, 16:13:10
Pain is common in my dreams, with one difference. The pain does not mimic realistic pain. For example, if I were to take a razor and cut the flesh of my arm, leg etc..., the pain interpreted in the dream is different than the pain inflicted by reality. The discomfort or agony experienced is near equal for both the dream and reality. However, how I interpret the pain is different. The pain in the dream is more mentally focused and relies on visual recognition or conscience recognition of either the wound being inflicted, thinking about how the wound was inflicted (if visual is not available), and then imagining the pain into being. In such a scenario, seeing is believing and believing can lead too unconscious elaborations. Life trains you to expect pain from physical damage. This may lead to the expectation of pain from being wounded in a dream. However, the unconscious mind tends to exaggerate while dreaming. Therefore, it leads me to believe that if you experience some physical trauma in a dream that you have not in reality, your mind will first try to connect with the closet experience possible and embellish it accordingly OR if you have no recollection of a similar pain, your mind may concoct a new form of discomfort. In either case only your imagination would limit the amount of agony you experience. It may also go to show that the more you focus on one aspect, the more your center of awareness is drawn too it. In dreams or reality, the more you focus on a minor discomfort the more annoying and distracting it can become.

Back to the razor blade... In high school I experimented with scarification. The resulting memory was me squeamishly making numerous shallow cuts into the skin because I was too scared to make a single deep cut (I don't mind blood, but I do mind stitches). This actually resulted in more pain (than the single deep cut) because I was repeatedly torturing the nerve endings. At some point, whether real or imagined I thought I could feel individual nerve endings firing. The nerve endings are what make the difference in the pain felt between the two realties. They are individualized in one and generalized or blended in the other.

I have also noticed that if I am only slightly aware that I am dreaming I can step away from pain or shut it off completely. Unfortunately, my imagination is little wild and I can't shut off the visual flow of disturbing imagery which keeps on going with me as a bystander. Luckily, if I'm able to shut off the pain I can let the visual imagery run its course and step back into the dream when it's finished.

Lastly,
<I bet you're glad I'm about done sharing my inner dialog eh?>
...I have experienced a dream sensation very similar to yours, RooJ. It is quite common for me and feels like my ribs are being pried apart or when I try to inhale, the area of rib cage in question will feel as if the rib or ribs are dislocated somehow and popping out of place. It's a very uncomfortable experience where the level of pain varies. My inability to breath normally wakes me up from the dream eventually. The pain is similar to a muscle cramp I get in my back from sleeping in the wrong position. I've always referred to it as a "catch" and it causes a shortness of breath accompanied by a stabbing pain. This pain, if amplified would result in the pain I feel in the dream, thus contributing to my above conclusions.

14 dreams in a night! Wow! And here I am setting a goal of only 10! Do you recall how many hours you slept that particular night?

Note to Self: Try the Cheese idea lol.

I used to hear the voices as I fell asleep alot, but not so much now. Last night I heard something. I thought perhaps it was just the voices and, half asleep already, tuned into it. I found it was a womans voice and she was talking to me. I do not recall what she said but I do remember it wasn't very nice. She wasn't insulting me  mind you, but encouraging me do evil things instead. I remember only one word she spoke for sure, and that was "Kill". I remember mumbling aloud in my sleep and told her to F off. It worked, she hushed. I really hope no one else in the house was awake to hear that apparent one sided conversation with the "devil on my shoulder". Hopefully that won't be happening again anytime soon. It felt like I was actually hearing someone speak who was really in the room.

Welcome to Dreams! / First lucid dream.
June 30, 2004, 12:58:28
Congrats on your first LD!
I've tried the "looking at your hands" technique and have never once seen them melt or fade. They just look like my normal everyday hands, with the exception of a few scars and tattoos on the palms that I don't really have.

However, I have never TOLD myself that my hands should fade or melt in a dream. I will most definatly give this a try!

Pleasant Dreams!

"Have to" read them Nay? Surely you don't think I would be so mean as to rush to your house, twist your arm, and demand you to READ! HAHAHAHA! No, I had considered posting them but changed my mind when I saw most of them were rather bloody and involved some form of canabalism.

Sadly, this morning showed only the average results. 5 recalled dreams and 2 forgotten ones. None with any great detail or interesting content. Oh well, yesterday was nice while it lasted. Then again, I stayed up till 11 last night... wow, that's late for me.

Welcome to Dreams! / HOW do Dreams Work?
June 23, 2004, 11:28:46
" It's almost like our dreaming is connecting to what is REAL, which is our spiritual selves, and when we wake we are really in the illusion of reality again, having forgotten our trip to other worlds."
"I think that when people consciously and continuously learn to OBE, they are experiencing realms and states of mind usually reserved for the dead."

Now THAT made my head hurt. I couldn't help but get this sickening notion that it is really WE who are dead and the so called spirits who are living...

Welcome to Metaphysics! / how to see auras
June 22, 2004, 13:56:21
Woo HOO, I was going to post my own thread about seeing auras. I hope you don't think I'm high jacking your Kairi, I just didn't see the point in making a second thread on the same subject.

I've been reading up on Robert's aura article and was pleasantly surprised to find out that even I, of all people, can see an aura.
I tried the first experiment where you set up a blue or red book. I was lazy and used the lid of my oil paint storage box. It's about the same color blue as the Astral Pulse forum color blue =). I've seen auras before and didn't even know it! As described, I could see a yellow band of color hugging the outline of the blue colored lid. As I continued to gaze I saw this yellow expand, rather suddenly into a brilliant neon orange. The object looked like it was glowing with its own orange light source! I was amazed when I studied this color. It seem to pulsate slightly and had a yellow hue where the orange aura faded, several inches away from the edge of the box lid. I had a blanket about the same color as the supposed aura and was afraid that perhaps my eyes were playing tricks on my and somehow bleeding that color into the after image of the box. How that would work, I don't know, but I decided to look at the aura of the orange blanket. I wasn't surprised to find it's aura color was similar to that of the box lid. However, this means nothing. What fascinated me was how the thin band of color I've always took for granted blossomed when I relaxed enough to study it. It literally grew out several inches away from the object I was looking at in as little as two or three seconds. I'm still amazed. Wow, that's all I can say. I read something off the net for once and it worked immediatly. I better be careful, I could get used to that.

On a more serious note. I noticed some objects were very hard see the aura of because of the background they were against. Granted, a nice neutral backdrop is preferred for practice, but what about when you actually get the hang of it? Would you be able to see the aura of an object against a slightly busy or not exactly contrasting or neutral background?

Plants are next, but I would like to master inanimate objects first [:D].

Thanks!

Welcome to Dreams! / Journaling Software?
June 22, 2004, 08:22:24
Hi Nick, you have recomended the link to me before, for which I'm very grateful. I really like that site. I was not, however, aware they had links to such things as journals! I'll go take a look today. Thanks again.

Welcome to Dreams! / Journaling Software?
June 21, 2004, 11:17:48
I knew had seen that somewhere before, but haven't been able to find it since! Maybe I'm just blind. Thank you very much Stephen.

<begins download hehehe>

EDIT: Oh no, NOnononooo [:(]

It said I need the net download thing! I'll be here for 2 or 3 hours trying to download that on a dialup modem. Pray that nobody tries to call and interupts my connection...

UPDATE: THAT was a waste of 2 hours. Apparently even WITH the .net thing, my laptop still does not care for it. The bloody thing is now giving me the blue screen of death everytime I turn around. Thanks for trying though...back to looking.

Does anybody watch the sci-fi channel during the day? They run marathons all day of the same show. This week was paranormal investigations or something, not a fictional show. I cuaght part of one show where this woman in San padro ? CA was being huanted by a poltergiest (sp?). She had a team investigate the house. What they cuaght on camera was disturbing; Orbs. She had photos of them that professional photographers could not explain. Each looked like a small round ball of light. They emitted their own light source and even cast shadows on each other. The team cuaght these things on film even though they couldn't see them with the naked eye. They were simply moving too quickly. What they saw when they slowed the film down were the same orbs flying around the room, through objects, people, outside, everything. They did not look like film goofs as they seemed to fly on their own unique paths. They showed up in all the films no matter what the light source. It was very interesting and made me think of this thread.
They followed the woman when she moved. When they talked to the ghost on a ougii board they asked it how many spirits were there. It said, "Phantoms fill the air around you." Was kind of creepy as I buy into that stuff a little too easily.

I would be interested.

Back when I started practicing LDing I had a friend who was also interested in this. She, in fact, was the one who introduced me to the idea. When we had time we pre-arranged dates and attempted to 'see' into one another's' dreams; experimenting with making shared Lucid Dreams. I was the first to make such a connection but got out of the practice of LDing not long after going to college. This person and I are no longer friends, unfortunately. Apparently, I don't give very good advise when it comes to internet boyfriends who resemble trolls or stalkers.

You know the type,
"Hey, you know this guy your involved with don't sound like he can be trusted...(tries to bring up the BS he's feeding her without insulting her.)"
"Oh, but I LOVE him and am going to marry him etc..."
"Really, and how many pet white foxes did you say he had?"
"two!"
"And he bought a house in San Francisco Bay for how much?"
"200,000"
"..."
"He sold his antique car to do it!"
"right, still don't sound right to me, I thought property out there was worth ALOT more"
"But he's driving down in just a few weeks to pick me up and I'm ready to move and everything!"
"Really? Your going to move to CA without ever having met the guy? Well, if he's actually coming down here..."
"He is!"
"I guess if he's serious, I hope it works out for you"
I try to be happy for my friend even though she's convinced me she really is moving away. A few weeks pass.
He didn't show, didn't call, friend in tears. I TRY to be sympathetic but she knows I'm not too good at that stuff. I give her some air, she gets depressed. I try to cheer her up the best I can but apparently I give bad advice now because I'm telling her she's NOT a loser and it's not her fault he was scum. Well, to make matters worse, I lost my patience and told her to call me when she woke up (or something to that effect, I think it was meaner). THAT went over well. I apologized for being an inconsiderate friend who gives 'bad' advice. She says fine whatever. I never hear from her again...except through another friend who claims that she is acting like nothing ever happened.

SO!
I would love to try the shared dreaming experiments again. Maybe with someone who isn't emotionally unstable and won't call me indescribable things for being right for once or just trying to be a friend the best I know how. You know what, forget friends, maybe a professional basis would be better. I don't play the friend part well anyway. If I did, I wouldn't be able to count them all one hand...

Ok, if anyone is interested after THAT emotional runoff,
<counts to 10>,
send me a PM.
Maybe we can set something up.

BTW, have I mentioned I'm not a therapist? AM NOT! I'm an out of work AUTOCAD operator, not a shoulder to cry on, a pessimist, anti-social, feel awkward in public situation, DRAFTSMAN! I can not work miracles! I cannot fix your love life! I CAN offer my part in practicing shared LDing though. Just keep it sane... I can't handle too many more people going to pieces on me.

Welcome to Dreams! / Teeth
June 18, 2004, 14:16:58
Having your teeth fall out in a dream is a common dream theme that may suggest, "You don't have a grip on something, or there is something you just can't sink your teeth into sort of meaning."
That's the common dream theme interpretation only.

Welcome to Dreams! / Whats the difference?
June 16, 2004, 13:52:02
OH! good question spiral.

I've had one WILD (Wake Induced LD) and one Wake induced OBE. Both I'm a bit foggy about the details of as its been awhile. However, the differences I recall experiencing were these.
In the WILD I seemed to dive head first into the 'hypnotic imagery'. Another words, I was at the contimplative state of sleep where you tend to visualize what your thinking about. Rather than passing the image up, I continued to focus on it and ended up inside the image, lucid and having a dream.

Now the Wake induced OBE is a little sketchier becuase it's not as recent. I think I was beyond the imagery, a deeper state of sleep perhaps. As always, I just happened to catch myself before completly nodding off and was able to pull off an exit. Prior to exit I have only the recollection of dosing...for 2 hours. I started at 9 PM and woke up from the OBE at 11 something PM. I'm not sure thats an answer to your question, it's just my account. Perhaps OBE's occur in a deeper state of sleep? Maybe not, maybe that's just how they work for me.

I've worn a gold class ring on my right hand for the past 5 years. Plus for the past two years, have had braces. AND I often wear small gold or silver hoops in my ears. I've wondered about this myself, however, for the past two nights have succeeded in unintentional OBE's. Do to the sheer luck of waking up just enough (the same time each night, coincidently), to encourage a projection. The projections were already occurring when I 'woke up'. I simply 'cuaght' myself as I was exiting. I still can't get anywhere near a projection (other that moving a finger) if I attempt an OBE directly after going to bed.

For me, jewelry does not 'prevent' a projection, although that does not mean it doesn't inhibit one.

The secret to lucid dreaming is simple, and yes it does involve some patience.

The secret to lucid dreaming is becoming more aware of your dreaming state. You can encourage this process with a dream journal. Just a few notes in the morning (or during the night) about whatever it is your remembered dreaming about. A small inexpensive notebook kept where you can easily get to it will suffice if you don't already keep a journal. You may remember nothing at first, or only a single detail, but write that down anyway. It's all about training your mind to remember to be more aware. Once you start remembering many dreams or details, you may find jotting down a few important keywords about the dream very helpful if you wake during the night and want to record something. This keeps you from spening 30 minutes between dreams trying to get in every detail and allows you to recall the dream the next morning.

Something else you can do are reality checks. During the day ask yourself if you are dreaming (do this as many times as you remember too). Then conclude why or why not. You can use unusual aspects you see in your dreams to confirm this with. For example, if you look at text or numbers in dreams, they are very hard to read, or will not be the same if read twice. Use that as a check. If the text changes, your dreaming! Be creative, everyone dreams about different day to day things that simply do not behave properly in dreams. You can use these things to do reality checks with. The only problem with this is rememembering to do the checks. That's the point, sooner or later they will become a bit of a habit and you will find yourself doing reality checks in your dreams!

The only other helpful tactic I've found for myself is, talking about dreams, even if it's just on the internet. This keeps the idea of lucid dreaming at the top of my mental "things to do" list, and I'm constantly aware of my goal and remember to do reality checks more often.

Unyielding determination will deliver you to your goal. Good luck!

I also reccomend www.lucidity.com for further reading.

Welcome to Metaphysics! / precginote dreams
June 14, 2004, 16:46:34
I've had a few precognitive dreams. Completly random and un-expected. Started two years ago. I had several within a three month span then nothing until last week. I had no idea they were precognitive until AFTER the fact. All of the dreams related to negative issues and all were events which I had no control over, even if I had known the dreams were showing actual events. Only one, the one last week, had anything remotely to do with me. The most recent dream was not an actual dream but that state of falling asleep where you see flashes of images and find your self simply thinking about various subjects.

Congrats AntiGravity! Lots of luck on your future attempts!

"I've had the same thing happen. If I'm feeling ill or even just particularly distrated I might let my journaling slide and in no time I start waking up sort of blank and stuggle to remember my dreams. I think that's a great point that you brought up--it shows how much of an impact the journal can have."

I've been setting up an easier way for me to record dreams during the night (needed to do something, was remembering up 9 a night). As a result my sleep pattern as well as what I recall has been severly impacted. I still seem to wake up the same number of times, but I recall much less and am more exhusted upon awakening. I still remember two long dreams from the morning hours regardless, usually with fairly good detail, but all the preceding events are diminished. I can't rmember hardly any of the false awakenings I'm acustomed to have 1-3 of. And all of the short dreams that take place between the time I fall asleep to about 4 in the morning are deminished to single scene memorys. I can't remember anything about the dream even though I know something more happened. I hope I get this sorted out soon. I can still remember at least 5 events a night but I was getting used to 9! 2 days of slacking has ruined me! No, I'm kidding, I'm not ruined, just having trouble breaking in the new recording methods...<yawns> Back to bed...

"Manix, do you think the movie "Something Wicked This Way Comes"is a good one to see? Is it a good movie, in other words?"

Actually I can't remember. It's been a very long time since I've seen this movie. It always gave me the creeps becuase it had this scene in it about a Ferris Wheel that ran backwards and the people that rode would gradually age and turn into corpses. I can't remember how old I was, but THAT part gave me nightmares lol. I rented it again a couple of years ago just for THAT scene and it wasn't there. However, I think for the time it was made it was a good movie.

Glad you liked the pic.
#73
After much work and inspiration from the "Something Wicked This Way Comes" dream, I've completed the following. No longer the rough and messy pic I had origionally posted. One of the few origional paintings I've completed in awhile, even if it is a photoshop creation. This one is dedicated to all you wonderful people here at the Astral Pulse who've helped me so much. Thanks guys.

"you cannot-not believe what you in fact believe. it would turn your whole world upside down."

I like that sentence, don't ask me why.

Reminds me of a quote I read the other day.

Reality is that which, when you stop beleiving in it, doesn't go away.

quote:
I have had a few dreams where I've seen mini tornados in the room with me, the room was white, and I would be on a bed in the room. But I haven't had these dreams for a long time now. Maybe tornado dreams are more common than we think?

More common than we think more frequent than I would like.
A some what pleasant note. The dreams I have resurfacing are not of the same genere as the previous. These do not seem particularly directed at me. Before, the blasted things would race right for me. Now, they're just there, acting like a 'normal' dream symbol should. I'm seeing more of the sky now than the actual tornado. Unusual colors and a general feeling that something is wrong and should be corrected rather than the previous feelings of utter fear.
