I have found that it's very helpful to simply blank my
mind. I blank my mind and slowly count and see how far
I can count before I have a thought. When I have a
thought I start over again.

I do that sometimes, but mostly I just lay down and
blank my mind. I refuse any thoughts, I just refuse
them by willpower. It was not that much fun at first
but now it's enjoyable. I started doing that in
December and it's much easier to mindblank now.

I'll reply but that doesn't mean I have any idea.

It's hard, I think you get better the more energy you put forward into it. I don't think anyone can really give you any help that you yourself can't find on your own.

But anyway I find that I can hold my mind clear longer if I listen for noises in the silence. Concentrate as had as you can on hearing as if you are trying to hear someone sneaking around your room. You're not really trying to hear anything but the act of listening distracts your mind from its meaningless babble

SORRY, THIS LETTER IS EXTREMELY LONG!!![B)] Ok, this probably won't help any but this is what I do.
I have a little meditation corner in the dark recesses of my closet where noone but me goes (thats why it's in the closet, noone goes there). It has a small indoor waterfountain (the kind you put on desks), a small table about a foot off the ground where plants, rocks, shells, & mirrors are arranged in a tranquil, calming way. There is a candle I sometimes light on the table, too. There is a mat to sit on, also. I also have a canary I bring in there with me to listen to its song. I pour all my negative energies into a rock before I enter it (sounds dumb, but I can actually feel, & see in my mind's eye, them draining from my body into the rock)so I can keep the space pure & free from all negativities. Then I just sit on the mat in front of the table & focus on the Lil' Sunshine's (that's my bird) song & on the sounds of the moving waters. Sometimes I also focus on a white light I see in my mind (now I KNOW I sound crazy!). I dunno, works for me. Keeps my mind from wandering & really after a minute I no longer hear the sounds, I am just...well, I am JUST. Sounds crazy, I know. Well, sorry, once again for the WORLD'S-LONGEST-STORY!

Look i don't know if this will help anyone or not but i have a strange way of meditation. In a corner of my room sits a small, hollow Copper Prymid. Supposidly copper helps to align thoughts. Well i sit in there for about an hour a day and use a mental medition i got from a book. Imagine in your mind that there is a flame. Feed everything into the falme. That includes everything you feel, smell, and touch. Then the falme should grow as you feed everything into it. At this pointit should "burn" your mind and leave nothing but a void. Hold on to this void and wrap your inneer self in it. I also find this helps when i project.

When i meditate i go for the mentalality of NOT TRYING.
And when i am in that state i imagine that whatever sound or disturbance from outside world that i get or whatever thought comes up, i let it flow over me like clouds faar faar up in the sky.
The higher up they are the better i go in to a trance.

Could also be used the opposite way, that you are sitting on top of a cliff meditating and that thoughts and outside dusturbance are a flood down there waaay waay down there.

Or maybe you can make yourself be in the middle.
Let all the thoughts and disturbance be a waterfall.

For me it feels best if you can accept what is and just let it have its movement but you just put it into an experience that makes you step away from it.

As far a meditation, you've got to start somewhere.  "Blanking your mind", I've found, is a goal, not a vehicle to start with.
I'm very visual, and when I get out of practice, my mind goes all over the place, so I've used this technique: since I am visual, and I know that SOMEthing's going to occupy my mind, I make it something of my conscious choosing.  Like a blank movie screen.  I know what that looks like, it's not difficult to call it up, and then, whatever pops up on it, pops up.  May not work for you...but this helps me.  Good luck!
