I have a colony of pet cockroaches (blaberus giganteus, to be exact).  The little guys will be about 3 inches long when they fully mature.

So I'm just curious, do any of you guys here have unusual pets (just about anything other than a dog or cat, I suppose), or any thoughts on them?

Teomim

I have an african claw toed frog (aquatic frog that breaths air), 8 Finches (zebra, socieity, and albno finces) that are hatching babies as we speak. Last night the first was born, and when i checked on the today, i actuall saw one hatching! we've 2 siberian dwarf hamsters, and a beta.

I love nature!

how did you get inot cockroaches as pets? just curious

Some pets ive had in the past include:hedgehogs, rats, tiger salamendar, and singing crickets.

Wow, lots of animals, sounds very cool!

Come to think of it, I don't know why I got into giant cockroaches, it was just one of those ideas that just pops in one's mind out of the blue.  They're perfect for a lazy guy like me, though.  They are hardy, and can withstand a wide range of temperatures and humidity levels.  All I need to do is spend 5 minutes a day replenishing their water supply.  They eat whatever I'd eat; cereal, beef jerky, apples, and other miscellaneous sweets.  I've come to really enjoy them.

I've had hamsters for pets in the past, as well.  Though they are very sweet, it's a pity that they are so short lived.  :(

well depends on what counts, i've got 2 pet rats and a blue tounged lizard im pretty sure they count, but do 2 guini pigs count?

I used to have rats.  I loved my little rats.  They were so smart .  However, I'll never get another rat because they die so quickly, and it's hard to deal with.

I used to have guinea pigs when I was a kid, they're neat.  What's your lizard eat, crickets?

I forgot!
just 2 weeks ago i released 4 Tree frogs that we raised from tadpoles!
we found em in a pond, scooped em up, and gave em a nice home. All the tadpoles did turn into frogs, but by the time we released em, only 4 of the 7 lived. we fed em crickets, but i think they turned all cannibal like.

It was really neat watching them evolve.

You

Dog, cat, used to have fish and many cats.

Magamba

I have a rare dog named "Giza" who is a Pharaoh Hound. He looks just like the dogs you see in Egyptian heirogliphics with the big ears and Anubis - God of the underworld.

actually snails and mushed food such as banana's she's to lazy to catch crickets so they would always hop away from her unless she was lucky and one stayed still

I have a chinchilla. It is as intelligent as rat, but lives much longer if not kept in cage. And it's so cute...

actually rats are way more intelligent, i mean have you ever seen a chinchilla who wants to get to somewhere but cant reach it, take turns at pushing a box next to an object just to get onto something (of course though they never think of the concenquences and end up stuck in the new area they went to such as inside a bath tub)

VesAn

What's a chincilla?  I've vague ideas about how they are furry (fur softer than a cat's fur, I recall) and 4-legged, but don't know much else beyond that!

CaCoDeMoN

Chinchilla is something like a squirrel, but much bigger and really fat.

You are wrong. It is intelligent, but animals don't have any way of showing their intelligence if kept in cages. My chinchilla runs freely around the house, and many times I've seen that it can connect facts, and act reasonalby.

actually my rats spend more time out of their cages general than what they do inside (they get alot of running around time)
