Projection through Meditation (Help)

Hi guys,
I will try to keep it short but complete.
I am trying to project from waking state, meditation to astral. I can't continue indirect methods(as called in PHASE practice) because of lack of time. I have HAD success with those though.

I sit for about an hour(can go more) in meditation controlling my thoughts. I won't say I am completely without any thoughts. I take help of any word(mantra) first to remove random thoughts. Then I can completely shut my thought process down for a few minutes.(can see instinctual thoughts arising sometimes. It's like- I don't think about anything but know it, as if I had thought several ideas in an instant. That's why I am calling then instinctual thoughts)

Now, my point is, I don't try to do anything to project. I just stay there quiet (expecting spontaneous signals/projection). But it does not happen. I stay there quiet. When I try to deploy any technique, I become aware of my body and then nothing happens, I have to try again to go to thoughtless state.

Can you share your insights here? What can I try to project from this state?

Totally forget about your body. Use your imagination to take you away. Though let's see what some of the more experienced astral projectors have to say.

Perhaps I am the odd one.   I always try to focus on my body.   That is the cue to know that I am close to leaving my body or about to leave my body at any moment.   When I am out of my body I try to forget about myself otherwise I will snap back into myself.   The only thing you can do is keep practicing until you get it right.   It looks like I am in a similar position to you.    My problem is I often hear myself snore.   When I hear myself snore I am aware of it and it brings me out of that relaxed state.    Then I have to start all over again.   I know I am close when I hear myself snore.   I have ap a few times when I have heard myself snore.   It can take a lot of time but it is worth the effort.

I know it SOUNDS counterproductive, but you CAN focus on your physical body.
It doesn't matter what you choose to be your focus, so long as you can focus on that particular thing to the exclusion of all else going on around you physically.
Projecting isn't a matter of forgetting your physical body.  Projecting is a matter of ignoring your 5 physical senses... which essentially means ignoring your physical reality.

Meditation does not necessarily induce an out of body experience, but it is probably one of the most helpful ways to prepare. ALSO ... OBE's or projection (which can be two different things) are NOT about forgetting the body (this is poor advice) ... BUT it is about reducing perception of the five physical (body) senses as mentioned by Xanth. This is why some travelers use sleep masks, ear plugs, etc. Being comfortable and relaxed are important to reducing our perception's focus upon the five senses.

So ... "yes" to some meditation and then a period of reducing perception of the five physical senses ... a popular label for this state is "mind awake / body asleep" ... this is the physical / non-physical state that you are generally preparing for.

THEN with this preparation ... you can begin the process of shifting your awareness away from the body (e.g., focus elsewhere). I have also found that binaural beats and OBE affirmations do prepare my brain for this conscious shifting. Additions like this can be important.

If you want to learn more, I suggest reading William Buhlman. He has a web site ... astralinfo.org ... with lots of free stuff. Within 40 days of reading his 2nd book, I was having experiences beyond my physical body.

Good luck!

Hi guys, THANKS for your advice.
I agree with you all that senses need to be shut down for leaving the body.

BUT, it happens automatically in meditation. Mind only becomes still when you stop attending to any stimulus(related to senses). There is only sense of existence at that moment, and sometimes thoughts pop up. I see what you are saying. And I am going to continue keeping that "Quiet" state and master that.

IT WOULD be Helpful for me if one could share his experiences(sensations/observations) while leaving the body(FROM WAKING STATE/not from LD). I KNOW, people get different experiences, I just want to make sure that it is not a sudden and probable phenomenon that may or may not happen. I need to master it. (& I don't expect it to happen overnight)

In regards to more information, I would suggest using the the search tool here on the forum. There are many personal experiences already posted on the site. People, who have been here for years, have taken significant time to write those things out already.

Here is a detailed account of one of those people (but provided on their own web site):

Good luck with what you are seeking. Remember ... a clear intention is important.

Hey Subtle Traveller,
Thanks, it was very helpful. Reminded me of Monroe's method as well. This is exactly what I needed.

Subtle Traveler

You're welcome.

fwiw ... Fred Aardema's book is called "Explorations in Consciousness" and his vigil method is based upon Monroe's writings in his first book. His old screen name here is "Major Tom", as he participated here briefly about 5 years ago. Many of his posts (answering people's questions are still here).
