Namaste,
if i was one of the temporal rulers of earth; this would seem like a really good way to get a fairly inexhaustable supply of human capitol...in addition, they would die young so the would not need health care, or formal education.  Also, by my work force having a shorter life span, it prevents the vast majority of them from accumulating real life experience...by the time the most wake up, it is too late, for they are already sick and broken.  those few who arent, i would be able to marginalize them and eventually kill them.  but this is if I were one of the temporal rulers of earth...

Unfortunately, in the countries where young people are most at risk aids, they are in serious denial about it - socially and politically.

One of the biggest problems is that no one has yet come up with a way to make the men wear condoms. You could drop them from planes in some of these places and they still wouldn't use them.

It is a crisis in the less developed countries.  However, they do not see it as such.  They certainly do not see it as a problem if the young girls are dying as in some of these cultures, girls are not the valued child.  Between the aids crisis killing off the girls of child bearing age and the abortions or abandonment of female babies, these countries could be in for a real shock in 10 or 15 years when they have a generation or two of young men who cannot find girls to actually marry and have a family with.

Girls and women need information and social and political power to say no to unprotected sex.  In most of these cultures, young brides do not have the right to say no or they get severely beaten.

We can give them all the information and the condoms, but how can we change the cultural and traditional aspects that make a bad problem worse?

Until their political and religious leaders get real serious about providing safe sex information -- or any sexual information -- to their young people, the problem will persist.  In the countries where this is being done, it has made a difference.

The best we can hope for is a vaccine for it.  It is truly unrealistic to say "cure" as  medical science has never cured a virus, only managed to control the symptoms or build an immunity system and then an effective vaccine.  I would hope that if and when there is a vaccine, those of us in the wealthier countries will see to it that it is cheaply given  to poorer countries as were the polio and the smallpox vaccines.

HAHAHAHA.........this brings up a question........can you get STD's in the astral world..........and if you do does it carry over (propably not or mabey).[:)][:P][:)]

There is a great possibility that virus's such as HIV/Aids was designed in a laboratory and secretly released on the world population in order to keep the rapidly growing human population down - I mean if you think of it, if you take away all deaths brought about by Aids and similarly fatal diseases then the world population would be much larger than 6 and a half Billion.

This could be true, but I kind of doubt it. Nature is most likely the cause. Nature maintains a certain balance, when something gets out of whack something else happens to try to bring it back into balance. Humans, reguardless of how much they try to distance themselves from nature are still part of it. Humans have upset the balance by populating so much of the world while destroy much of nature. By going into areas that humans have not been before, it is highly likely they will come across new diseases, or rather ones they have never seen before. With the gobalized world we live in today, it is very easy for a small virus to travel from some isolated area to major populations in no time.

Also, microbes, like all life, evolve and change. This change can happen more quickly since they are simplier organisms than more complex mammals, birds, etc. So we will continue to see new diseases popping up. It is not something that can be stopped.

This is just the way the world is that we live in. It is a system that works. With humans living longer and reproducing at incredible rates, something has to happen to keep things within balance. Other wise, how long will it be before nature can no longer support all of its inhabitants. Not that I am saying we should do nothing about this AIDS situation, for we should do all we can. I am just saying, that is the way it is.
Alice had got so much into the way of expecting nothing but out-of-the-way things to happen, that it seemed quite dull and stupid for life to go on in the common way.

Shadow20205

Hey, I just realized something if every living organism, be it a virus or cell, has a spiritual ( astral form) then you could get aids and if your spiritual ( astral) form dies wouldn't you or would you be left as an empty shell , a miere vegetable ith no character cursed to walk the world alone.[:(]

TheLunatic

Ugh, I was thinking there was going to be some hot action in here NOW I find out it's a discussion about AIDS/HIV...

AIDS is terrible. Condoms will never be an answer to it. We need a vaccine or to stop having sex for 10 years.

Shadow20205

No, the problem is that the goverment is investing to much money on trying to find a cure for cancer (which they all ready have a treatment for), and not enough on finding a treatment for aids.[:(!]

No, the real problem is that the government is spending to much money on tools of death and distruction and not enough on worthwild things.

Gah, how stupid. Too little information on AIDS/HIV? I say too much information on sex. The condom should have never been given out to high school kids as it is now. Instead of kids using it at all, the education is practically a sign saying "go have sex, sure it's fine, it's great! just make sure you do it safely"

That's like saying go smoke but do it safely. Put a piece of latex over the cigarette and it's all okay. People are dipshits, even more so teenagers. I live with them every day, hell I am one. More than 1/2 of a typical high school are morons (compared to whom you may ask? compared to people who make mistakes and actually learning from them, instead of accepting it as being okay and doing it again). And they will NOT take in safe sex. They will take in "School says it's okay to bonk half of the girls in my school, so I will. Without being tested too! Yay for meeee ^_____^"

Wake up dammit, turn on your TV, look at typical teenager channels. Movie channels, MTV, they're all full of sex AND drugs. I don't blame lack of information, I blame it on lack of brains, too many hormones with no sexual release, and just over all dipshitism.

ugh,

Fat_Turkey

Might I also add that I have had sex myself, and it was the biggest mistake in my life - though nothing bad happened. Dammit, little teenage boys are all the same - bags of hormones.

And it's those sorts of desires that lead them to sex without protection. And I don't blame the guys entirely. Look at the girls. They actually think that they half to become a skanky whore to gain power. Which in most cases is a half-truth. Most men will sleep with some women just for the hell of it, and the media portrays it all the time.

Sex is just overrated bovine excrement that is set up and excused by "love," which I think is more like a blinded infatuation for some other human that actually makes your brain give you a high. Oh yeah, we all know sex is dirty - unless we love the person. But is that love a reality? Not to me. True Love is not some bullcrap between two people. Nay, it is more a love for all people....an understanding of people and a care for all people. Phack just one freakin person, that's wasting compassion on a lie.

Yes I agree Lunatic, it is also that, but it is also money spent on cancer cures instead trying to find a treatment for Aids. They have one for cancer.[:(!]

As a teen, I can tell you most teens masterbate. If they kept doing that untill they are out of College, then they are ok!

Fat_Turkey

hah, too many skanks around. It's just too easy to go off and screw someone, good thing some people have self control..

Yep...self control....

Those with good self-control will survive to pass on their genes to the next generation. Those with supressed wildness will become stupid and spread the disease because the idiots who supressed them from having sex (i.e. stupid controlling parents who are generally on the conservative end of things) are going against nature and are just screwing things up for themselves and others later on.

The condom works 99.9% of the time. This is the statistic given. The condom was actually a good idea because you can't just supress the instincts of peoples' hormones. Everyone's body is different and some are simply more likely to have sex more frequently because their hormones are raging. The other problem is that there are no morals taught in our society. Sex is a very big part of our society. It's in ads, it's in the movies. It's all about image. The values, morals, and ethics that are being taught to the young adult population in this country are very low-grade. Bear in mind that I am not excusing anyone for their choice to have sex.

I myself am sexually active and I use condoms. Now, bear in mind that I do not have sex with just anyone. I take many things into account when I make my choice.

I think it's important to know the consequences of one's actions and just how serious they are. You see, what society has done is given us the idea that we can simply disregard the consequences. "Oh it's okay if you screw up your life because it's your choice." They have not stressed the seriousness and gravity of such a choice. The point is, once that happens, the government and a lot of other businesses make a lot of money from the people who listen to this message.

How do we go about fixing a problem like this? We've got to change the way we see ourselves, other people, our society, our country, our government, and the rest of the world. We must also change our values, morals, and ethics.

THANK YOU!  SAFE SEX EVERYBODY!

Even I, the old lady here, have condoms in her nightstand drawer.  Hey, you never know!

Boys and girls, make a habit of carrying a condom around in your wallet.  You never know when you're gonna get lucky 20 miles away from the nearest drugstore.

Of course, I wish you'd all find the perfect mate, get married and live condom-free and faithfully for the rest of your lives . . . but . . . I know it aint gonna happen.  So use condoms!

Tisha

Lilith

Actually, Tisha, I finally have something to disagree with you on.
[;)]
Do not carry your condoms in your wallet, the compression tends to break down the rubber/latex 'cause most men carry their wallets in their pocket and thus sit on it.

Fat_Turkey, with all due respect, you're wrong.
Africa is home to something like 70 - 80% of all AIDS/HIV cases.
Television and media are not responsible there, neither is sex education.
Ignorance is.
Knowledge is power, and ignorance isn't bliss.

jc84corvette

Very good point Lilith! I did not know that. I would also think a condom gives you more of a urge to have sex. I know many of my friends sexual life, the males DO NOT carry condoms but the girls DO. Thats weird. LOL

Well... I sat my kids down (and very uncomfortable they were, too, heheh) when they were in their teens and had The Talk with them... actually several talks, but there ya go [;)]... and I taught them when and how to use a condom and supplied them with a box on the bathroom counter.
I'm pretty sure more condoms went over the bridge filled with water than were "properly" used, none got STD's or unwanted pregnancies, and all have a healthy respect for the opposite sex.
I thought perhaps they might have been embarrassed to use them for fear I would know, but they're grown up now and they tell me no, they just didn't have sex except in those few monogomous relationships they had - 2 for my son and one for my daughter.
I had managed to convince them that sex was more than just fun, and the condoms didn't go to waste - even the ones that went over the bridge.

I think they should make condom carrying cases.

n/a

say it, do not spray it!

chupacabra

At face value, it seems that consensual sex without a relationship would be okey-dokey. It's fun, both parties have a good time, what's the problem?

but I know that isn't right. When you do have sex with another person, there's much more involved than having a good time.

But what exactly is it? Do we feel bad about sex for sex'sake because of:

Religious brow-beating about it being a "sin"? Or are emotions so heightened during the act that we're sort of tricked into thinking some sort of bond has been made when there really isn't one?

Or does something happen on a spiritual level. If so, what is it?

For what its worth there is another way. They say a asperin is the best way to avoid STD or unwanted preagnancies . When you gat in the mood set the pill between your knees and consentrate on keeping it there[;)]. Personally I feel it is up to the individual but many choose to simply not have sex till they get married, and before you stone me for this comment......that is their choice, and it seems to work for them. I never did , neither my kids but I know some that did and they seemed very content that way. Whatever is right for you

Wow I wish my folks did that. Thats what I like to see in every family. Sex protected with the parents knowing is better then STD's.
