So i have been struggling with trying to astral project for about 3 and a half months.Ive noticed that i have alot of trouble with relaxing enough to fall into sleep paralysis and not falling to sleep. So can anyone help me with some tips or suggestions with what they do.

Lionheart

Lately I have been changing my technique. In stead of just noticing for hours as I fall asleep, I now just close my eyes and try to hit sleep as fast as possible. That means no energy work, no progressive relaxation, no meditating. Just closing my eyes and going to sleep, but at the last second before I click out, I suddenly bring my conscious awareness 100%. I now see that I have tricked my body into going to sleep. From here I wait the first Hypnogogic Images, then I ALLOW some kind of scene to appear and join it.

I changed my technique because I saw how my better half, MJ, just lies down and 4 minutes later she begins to snore. She can just turn off and go to sleep on a dime. Through noticing I was training myself to just lie there for as long as it took until "something" started to happen. But found that some nights this could take a couple of hours. I knew there had to be a better way. So, I reprogrammed myself that when I first close my eyes to sleep, that that's exactly what I do. I shut down, but then at the last moment I click back on.

It takes a lot of practice to find that "sweet spot", but you can do it.  :-)

Ive actually done this before by accident, as in tried to go to sleep then at last minute become fully awake. It has gotten me to sleep paralysis.I will deffinetly try this. Thanks  :-D

I could do this more when I was younger, but not as much.  Being tired is not helpful.  Or it's just old age.
Why?

I find that my "old age" has actually benefited my AP ability. It frees up time to practice. When I am tired, I just take small naps.

It's actually improved my "awareness" in general. It also make you appreciate certain things much more than you used to.  :-)

EscapeVelocity

I wish I could learn that Lionheart, but it takes me forever to silence the chatter; truth is, it just stops when I tire out and I never see it coming. As much as I promote affirmations, that's one area that hasn't worked for me.

What I have noticed is other opportunities presenting themselves, and obviously promoted by my conscious/subconscious requesting: In response to the thread by Inphered, I suggested acting upon the presentation of a tunnel image. Privately, I was thinking, "Why don't I ever get tunnels?! That would be so convenient!"

I couldn't believe it! Less than a week later, I rolled over to go back to sleep one morning and was staring straight into a spiraling tunnel!

I dove straight in immediately and had two back to back Astral instruction lessons...

Be yourself; everyone else is already taken.

I find Affirmations VERY important. I use them EVERY night, no matter what. A member of the Astral Pulse posted a technique to quiet the "chatter" that I found to work really good. You just ask yourself while your eyes are shut "What is my next thought going to be". For some reason this halts the thoughts for awhile. I laughed when I first heard it mentioned, but found that it actually works "most" of the times.

Ask and you shall receive, lol. Your intent/wish came true. It's too bad winning the Lottery doesn't work that way, lol!  :-D

It's always good to practice what we preach, but sometimes it just doesn't work the same for us.

Congrats on the successes!  :-)

What do you mean by instructions? And what did those instrustions tell you ?

downraver

I can tell you what works for me. being very sleepy. This is how I do it: When I plan on going into sleep paralysis, I only sleep 3 hours that day. Then, stay about 15-18 hours awake. Fight your body to stay awake. Try not to drink coffee or caffeine products. Then When Its time to go to sleep. Your body is so use to you staying awake that once you lay down and try to sleep, your mind will stay awake and your body asleep. Usually before this happens, I tend to feel electricity in my head. Throughout the years, I have been fighting to not be scared when this happens but practice makes perfect. See if that helps.

:? :? :?

What instructions?

I already said in that post that "to quiet the chatter, just ask yourself what your next thought is going be." Then watch what happens. Normally when I do it, my mind stops the clutter for a minute or so. Do it again and the interval gets longer.

The practice what you preach statement was directed to EscapeVelocity. He had stated that he had told Inphered to "act upon a tunnel image . But then EscapeV wondered why he never gets the "tunnel visions".

If you haven't already, check out the Stickies on the Forum. They are the threads in BOLD BLUE LETTERS. They are very helpful and loaded with great tips.

I think you quoted the wrong post.  :)

EscapeVelocity is who you meant.
What he means (please correct me if I'm wrong, EV), is that he had experiences where he recognized he was being taught something.

Yeah i realised i quoted the wrong person as soon as clickes on post lol.

So i tried listening to a guided meditation. They seem to work sometimes for my friend so i gave it a try.I relaxed my body completely, focused on my breathing. Then i just follow the meditation.I was laying down for about 56 minutes according to the mp3 playback.56 minutes is a long time i just dont understand why i didnt fall into sleepparalysis.Again i was fully relaxed,my body was sleepy.Any thoughts or opinions on what could be going wrong.

Any guided meditation will work for anyone putting the proper Intent into following it.

You don't 'relax' into Sleep Paralysis, your mind wakes up while your body is asleep.

Try waking up a few hours earlier then after a few days go back to the normal time, you should find yourself repeating the pattern of waking up at a certain time even though your body is still asleep.

Sleep Paralysis isn't comfortable or enjoyable, it's just a good indication of how awake your mind is whilst your body is asleep.
