Hey,
I've been thinking about possibly trying this for a long time, I've just never gotten around to it. Maybe someone with more dedication or will power can give it a shot? :-)

We have all heard about expensive devices you can buy that use lights etc to make you realize you're having a dream but not waking you up at the same time. Different than brainwave entrainment, mind you.

Well, I don't have a lot of cash to buy one of these fancy devices, but I do have a lot of older cell phones.

The idea is simple: Strap, or tie a cell phone with a vibrator function (as to be very subtle on your body)  to your leg or to your arm when you lay down to go to sleep. Before hand, set the phone alarm to go off on vibrate 2-3 hours from the time you lay down.

In theory, it should give you a cue that you are dreaming, assuming it was subtle enough not to wake you. I have really high hopes for this technique, let me know what you guys think!

Hi wind3d,
I'd probably jump out of bed if something vibrated against my sleeping body  :-o. I'm such a light sleeper, wrapping it in something and putting it on the nightstand would probably work better for me. Actually with my sleep pattern, I usually awaken myself before it's time to rise so I don't really need this sort of alarm. Give your idea a try!

I've used this method and found pretty effective actually. It can provide a dream cue, but even if it wakes you briefly it allows you to reinforce your intention to become lucid as you go back to sleep. Like any of these methods, I think you need to stick with it for a while before it becomes really useful.

Cheers.

A vibrator as an alarm clock. Interesting. Women around the world are lining up.

There's an excellent little device you can buy online called Invisible Clock. It lets you set multiple alarms during the night and you can set it to beep or vibrate. You can also vary the strength of vibration. It's pretty small and you can clip it onto clothing or a sleep mask.
