Problems with AP

The Deer

I've been trying to AP for close to four months now, but to no avail. I've reached (or think I've reached) the Focus 10 state, but I'm having trouble telling, because I don't feel the "vibrations" that I've been reading about, nor have I hear any cracks, pops or fizzles. On rare occasions (twice) I've felt as if my body was "bent" away from the straight position that I began in.

I've tried using many different audio files/programs, but nothing seems to be able to help me get past the "numb body" state. If there are any free audio files that anyone is aware of, I'd appreciate any suggestions.

So now that the background stuff is all out of the way, here are my questions

1. After being in (what i believed to be) mind awake/body asleep state, and i try to exit my body, I just end up still being in the physical. I've tried different exit methods, such as mental/written mantras and the "Rope" technique, but nothings doing. Same deal with opening my "astral eyes". I just open my physical eyes and the state fizzles away Do i need to deepen my state of consciousness or is there a "better" technique that I've missed?

2. I've read that having the room pitch black is not advisable. I don't mean to say that you should beam a halogen lamp on your bed, but I read that the room should be dimly lit. Any truth to this? I ask because a) I prefer the dark and b) I really get a reaming by the parental units for leaving a light on all night.

3. What exactly IS phasing? This has been the only place where I've heard the term used.

4. My room has lots of electronic equipment in it, but at night it all goes off. Is it possible that all the cables and whatnot cause electric disturbance (Therefore hindering the projection attempt?)

5. Quite often during meditation, I'll get itches which eventually go away if I ignore em long enough but the killer thing is that if i stay in a trance for about an hour, my legs feel this need to move. I dunno if have RLS or if it's an astral clue that I'm missing. In any case, I don't know what to do when that happens and thinking about it ruins the statement

6. I had more questions, but they've eluded me for the moment.

When (if) I remember the other questions I had, I'll be sure to post them.

Thanks very much to whomever replies!

I have the exact same questions.
Actually, not #2 though.

Achieving Focus 10 does not guarantee an OBE. Focus 10 is more a deeply relaxed state where one starts to lose awareness of physical sensory information and starts to become more focused on the internal. I think trying to OBE from this state would be quite difficult. It would be best to deepen it into a light then deep trance state and try from there.

I prefer to have the room pitch black as it is easier to pickup hypnogogic imagery, and less likely to be distracted by external sources of information (including sight). The only benefit I've had of using a dim light when practicing OBE is that the light filtering through the eyelids makes visualising a pure white light a lot easier.

Phasing is simply moving ones attention from this point of awarness (the physical) to another point of awarness. In the phasing model, the astral planes are actually another place along the stream of consciousness (which contains all creation). When we phase, we consciously divert our attention away from the physical to another astral location.

I've noticed no interference from nearby electrical devices in all my years of projection. A problem might occur if you believe they will hinder your OBE practice, as that belief itself might cause the hindrance.

I have this problem when attempting to OBE, but not when meditating. Sometimes I have a tremendous need to move my body which eventually breaks the trance state. I saw an interesting idea at saltcube.com which suggested this desire to move was actually caused by the brain to test if the body was truly asleep. if you don't move, then your body will go into a natural sleep and create a paralysis state. I haven't tried to see if this is true, but next time I feel this urge I will stay still.

You dont need to hear any bursts, pops, or fizzes. Some people get some of these, others get nothing. Just dont look for it, it will slow your progress.

You probably just try to "exit" your body too early. Just sit back and watch what happens- you will know when you are ready to exit your body.

Really doesnt matter, my best session so far was at noon in a half-lit room.

Check out the "Permanent Topics" and "Astral FAQ" forums for more info. Those things are a gold mine of information, and information is after all the most powerful tool when youre phasing.

No, haha. Dont have to worry about anything except the area behind your eyelids and whatever your going through at the moment.

You simply have some barriers that you will need to cross naturally- it sounds like your looking for too much. When you practice simply lay down and observe the darkness behind your eyelids. You will eventually start to have little "dream scenarios". Try not to get stuck in these, simply observe them and roll along with them. The real key is just letting the experience flow. Sit back and watch the blackness until you are either out of body or in your F2oC.
Hope I helped,

I can give you a couple of quick examples of phasing that you may recognize.  Have you ever had the 'stares'?  You are just looking off into space thinking about something.  The important thing to note is that you are focused completely on what you are thinking about and have forgotten your physical body.  It usually ends with someone waving their hands in front of your face and saying something witty like, "Earth to ___, come in ___"

At that point, you become aware of a voice in the distance calling you.  You then feel a motion backwards, growing or both.  Then you blink and your 'back' listening to everyone around you laughing because you were 'gone'.  Guess what.  You were.

The same thing happens when you are awakened during a dream.  The sound or motion some distance away.  Your attention begins to shift toward the disturbance followed by a motion.  A second or two later and you are awake.

If during those experiences, you are fully aware of what is happening then you have phased.  That's it.  Of course, I've described a 'return' instead of a 'leave', but it is the exact same process.

You know what, your questions are both what I and a ton of people have all the time when starting out. You and I think alike: We want to know where we're going so we know how to get there.

First off, I'll tell you the most important thing to learn. Expectancies kill. Do not expect too much, or else it won't happen. The idea is to have a goal, and to put it in your subcontious mind. Leave it at that.

Secondly, too much knowledge kills. If you know too much, you expect more. So, I'm going to tell you exactly what you need to know.

First off, whatever happens takes little to no mental effort in to the actual transition. The important thing is to put yourself in to a position that it is liable to happen. After that, it's practice.

I know practice seems like a long period of boring, but it's things like that which seperate those who are, and those who aren't, ready to phase. It's strange, but we have to adopt things which are completely opposite of our daily lives in order to phase.

Secondly, forget everything you know. Astral eyes, OBE, forget it. Take things one step at a time, and before you die you will be able to phase. If not, then you'll understand once you die. It's important to have a strong base before you can build apon it. I could go on for pages on the importance of strengthening the nerves and stuff, but too much knowledge is bad. It's never the same for anyone.

So the next time you practice, and get the feelings, don't push. Just concentrate on the blackness in your eyes, and let your mind do its thing. You will see spots of colour, or not-so-black, just watch them.

The important part is to enjoy every step. Enjoy the colours, the strange feelings, and eventually bigger things will grow from those. Then one night, when you least expect it, you will make the tiny jump and hardly notice it until you realise things are too real. Until then, you need to build your base.
As it as written, now and forever shall be. In the name of the Stevo, amen.

Alright, here's my two cents.

First, what a great statement!
QuoteSecondly, forget everything you know. Astral eyes, OBE, forget it. Take things one step at a time, and before you die you will be able to phase.

Live OBE by this statement.  Before you die, you will be able to phase or go OBE.  In fact, think of the possibilities if you were to practice for say, 20 years.  I don't know how old you are, but lets say you are 20 years old.  I guarantee you if you practiced from now till you were 40 years old, by then you will be projecting at will at least every other night for the rest of your life!

Now, here's my opinion on all this "learning how to OBE" stuff.  I have been given the impression by books and such that the process can be easily achieved.  I don't believe this at all.  Here's the catch.  You will OBE soon.  It will be when you least expect it because it won't be willful.  Most likely you will wake up in the middle of the night buzzing like a bee and know intuitively you can venture out.  Or some kind of opportunity will present itself and you will recognize it as an OBE event (because you have become knowledgeable on the subject) and you will go with it in excitement.  People who are not knowledgeable on the OBE process become very fearful of these opportunities and make every effort to stop the process from happening and kill the OBE.

Now, the more OBE is on your mind (and I don't mean in such a way that you have negative thoughts about not being able to do it yet) the greater your chances of becoming aware of the opportunities.

In my opinion, what you are attempting is a "willful" projection.  A willful projection is extremely difficult to accomplish.  And if you do accomplish it once in two years of every night practice, you are doing great!  I have recently read an article that stated it takes about 300 to 500 hours of constant practice to achieve a willful projection.  I believe this is accurate.  It would take 45 minutes of practice every night for 660 days (just under two years) to achieve it.  And that's EVERY NIGHT for two years.  Skip the weekends and you can add 104 days (or 1/3 year) to that total.

I think these numbers are very realistic.  So...  You must...

Enjoy the hell out of practice!  Keep frustration to a minimum (if you can) or you'll never make the two to three years.

Every night can be a new experience.  Enjoy the small ones.  One of these nights, you won't go OBE, but you'll experience what its like to hear these audio hallucinations like people talking in you ear.  It will flip you out!  One night, you will see in 3-D technicolor a vision flash in front of you for a millisecond.  And it will flip you out!  Great experiences are there, from small things like ballooning of your hands, to your arm feeling like its twisting and twisting, to weird mind trips you won't be able to describe to your friend.  There waiting for you, you just need to have fun with it, even the scary stuff.  One time I was going OBE and these black things about the size of raccoons were crawling all over my chest preventing me from going out.  I freaked out at first, caught my composure, instead of fearing them as some little black beasts, I pet them and sent them "good vibes" and they reacted positively to it and went away happy.  Nothing bad can happen to you except your own fear.  Once you own your fear and can control it, all the little things that go bump in the night will be your friends, and you will become theirs.

Good luck.  Don't give up and don't get crazy with this stuff.  I have been practicing fairly consistently now for right about two years.  I have projected about 10 times now for very brief periods of time.  Too short for my desires!  From 10 seconds to maybe 5 minutes.

The other night I had my first VERY NEAR willful projection.  Everything lined up and I thought I was there.  I never made it, but from the previous OBE's I've had, I am sure I was 99% there, just couldn't quite do it.  Don't give up.

PM me if you want a detailed description of what I felt when I had my OBE's.

I'm glad you like my quote, Willis. I figure sooner or later everyone will achieve phasing, weather you like it or not.

I agree with your statements of the whole thing being about practice, although for some it could take a week, a month or a year. It's all depending on how long it takes to realise just what your doing. Here's my theories.

Gaining the ability to phase opens up a lot of doors. There's a possibility for anything to happen. So, what better than to 'filter' those who can handle the power of being more aware, and those who can't. For example:

Average Joe has a phasing experience. Average Joe predicts lottery to live lavishly and destroy peoples lives. Average Joe joins government to take over world. Average Joe destroys world. End.

Now, lets say Average Joe can't wrap his mind around phasing because he's too self centered and greedy. World goes on. Happiness ensues. Makes sense to me.

So what I'm saying is there's two reasons to practice. One, to get those brain nerves stronger and more reliable. Two, after a lot of humiliation, time, sweat and tears, you learn humility, patience, and simplicity = phasing. Good people win.
As it as written, now and forever shall be. In the name of the Stevo, amen.

Another good thought Stevo.  Learning how to OBE and necessary mind control are awesome side effects (or inherent parts of the process, which is even better!).  All your thoughts come true.  You attract to you those emotions that are on your mind.  That's awesome.  It is a self-righting system that causes people who believe in it to become fearlessly good.

I can't really express my feelings to each of you who have responded, except that I'm grateful for the time and ideas you've imparted to me and other readers. I'm practicing nightly now, and i know that I'm getting close. One night... I'll be there

Thank you
