It seems impossible for me to have zero thoughts, no matter what. The harder I try, the more chatter is in my head. Please any techniques?

Think to yourself "I wonder what my next thought will be?". Then observe. When a thought comes up, start over. The magic place is the gap between the thoughts when all you're doing is observing. The better you get at it, the bigger the gap will get until you can "be" in it.

One method that usually works really well for me is I just let go everything as if I'm diving backwards off a cliff and doing a free fall into nothingness.  No attachments to thoughts or emotions.  No attachments to anything.  It does take a bit of practice in the beginning, but the more it is done the easier it gets, and can be done instantly at will anytime you wish without doing any relaxation exercises.  I don't try to run from a thought or push it away because rejection is the same as attachment, just polar opposites.  I just let it float by with no attachments and observe as it dissipates into nothingness.  But I don't just do this during meditation.  I practice this throughout the entire day.  However, that can be a bit challenging given the type of lifestyle of today's society.  It's also excellent for increasing projection experiences.  I also apply this same method of non attachment to projection experiences.  I don't attach myself to anything I am experiencing within the projection experience, because the moment I do is when I usually lose consciousness.  I just express my intent and go with the flow.  Half the time my intent usually forms itself into something totally unexpected, but I still do not attach myself to it.  I just go with the flow and the projection experience will normally last as long as I wish.

Just let go... of everything, without any fear or regret of... anything.

That's one method that works well for me, but each individual is different.

This is simply because now you have more responsibilies and distractions. I used to use my mental chatter as a focus medium. I would just allow myself to think about anything my mind wanted to, this would help me to remove my focus from my Physical body. I also ended up quite a few times in the 3D darkness without even knowing it. All of a sudden all the chatter stopped and I was just noticing thngs moving in the darkness before my eyes,
Remember this will only be a problem as long as you "believe" it is. You have to learn to "adlib" and work these things into your practice. This skill in itself comes from more practice!  :-)
