So, one of my major fears is that if I leave my body,  I will not be able to return to it. In other words, I might die. To others harboring the same fear, I recommend the following article.

You are asking a very BIG question. There is a lot of debate on this issue on these forums and on other websites. Some people maintain that the soul is indestructable and eternal. Others maintain that, under certain circumstances, a soul can be harmed or even destroyed.

First off it appears that there are only opinions and no definitive evidence.
Secondly, from personal experience while out of body I Do know that hostile and even violent encounters are possible. Such situations are quite rare or easily avoided.

In general I can confidently state that OBEs are, as a rule, quite safe. If a person goes out of body with good intentions then he or she has little to worry about.
Should you ever find yourself in a dangerous situation during an OBE it will always be possible for you to immediately return to your physical body and end that OBE.

Dear thirdeye26,

almost every OBE book deals on this and they will all tell you the same: that it is no more dangerous than sleep.

Your attachments such as loves, fears, relations will keep you hooked to that physical body unless some other entity manages to create a stronger attachment to your body. Usually this is not possible and at best, foreign entities may only be able to attach to body's lower chakras unless they're granted permission by the owner.

What people should truely worry about are the anesthetics usually given to people before surgery. For some reason they loosen the soul so much, that astral beings can steal the bodies from their owners. People and nurses are barely aware of this as a personality-change phenomenon that occurs a lot after surgeries.

Thank you so much for your response.

Dear GreyTraveller, yes, that is what I have been assured by many...that it is not possible for anyone to take control. But in my case, I think I am a bit too much attached to my body and have a big phobia of separating from it.

Dear Tiny, I did have anesthesia once and don't remember what happened during the surgery (a minor one) I remember waking up giggling and telling jokes and even the doctor was laughing.

Err.. personalreality, where did you get those statistics?

50/50 chance of death on each projection?  :-D

I don't try any of this unless I've put a white light around myself, makes me feel safe :P

Realisation, have you read the above, including the link?
Be positive and go for it.  :-)

I would say that the only possibility of death in OBE is if you're already scheduled to die at that point.
be awesome.

That would assume you're on Death Row or something

kurtykurt42

Or really really old.  :-D

I head about this cat that goes near patients in a hospital when they are about to die. The cat will sit next to the patient for a couple of days until they pass away.

T.L.

You can die from straining too hard taking a number 2. Point is death is always lurking around so anything is possible.

kurtykurt42

That would be a tough way to go...  :-D

I used to be afraid of death but not so much anymore.

Hi
I'm new to the forum but have been learning about all sorts of metaphysical stuff, including astral projection, from some teachers who are very experienced at astral projection. I've had couple of experiences but my husband remembers his AP experiences quite regularly.

What I've learnt from my husband and friends is that we naturally leave our bodies every night when we sleep. Every single human being does this when they sleep, we just don't remember normally, but we gain astral energy which recharges us for our daily activities.

So there is nothing to be afraid of regarding dying, you do this every night, and I'm assuming that you are not afraid to sleep. The thing that we do when we "astral project" is to have conscious awareness and recall of what we are doing. We just need to be able to have our awareness with the experience.

As I'm new I don't know if that information has been mentioned on the forum previously (?)

It's very reassuring when you consider it is something you do all the time and you are still here and OK.
Enjoy and have fun.

also, death is just another form of "astral projection" in a way and we spend time on the astral in between lives. In the same way that we don't remember all our night time activities on the astral, most of us lose the memory of that time in between lives and also the memory of previous lives.

Is that helpful?

Has anyone ever read Castaneda? Don Juan tells Carlos that we are always being stalked by death and if we look over our left should fast enough we might catch a glimpse of death.

"Ready on the left with a face full of death" - Aesop Rock

We are all already dead.  It is an absolute certainty.  Wouldn't you like to know that you spent your time practicing what to do after death?  (APing)  And should you die while doing it?  Well, you were practicing for that moment.

I don't think you can die because of any AP experience, which is what I think you're asking.  But as I said earlier, we all have a time to die, and if you die when APing, its only because that was when your ticket was called.  It won't be because of the AP, it will be because your Self chose to leave then.  Don't fear it.
be awesome.
