Does anything bad happen while astral projecting?

Why in the World do I have the ability to do it, when I didn't seek the ability? I wonder if I'm supposed to do something with it. It seems to be coming to me. My local library has a bunch of books on the subject. I plan to check some out.

Nothing is ever 'bad' so to speak.  Frightening things can happen but there are no lasting effects.  It all depends on the way you look at it.  Secondly, everyone has the ability to AP, some more so than others.  I don't know why.  Try asking in the OBE discussions forum.

Why is there one forum for OBE, and one for astral projection? Is there a difference?

No harm can come to you when in the Astral state.  No harm.  You can be scared, frightened, and tested to see how resilient and ready you are... but no harm can come to you.  The worst that will ever happen, is that you may be threatened or frightened, and then snap back to your body and wake up with butterflies in your stomach...

And in saying this I must also say, that these "frightening experiences" are usually only embodiments of your own fear, and the more time you spend AP, the less and less they occur.

Sounds like you have the ability to do it, because the powers that be, want you to have it.  For what reason I can only guess.  It could be exploration, education, enlightenment... it could be that someone who has passed on wants to see you, and this is the only way....   the list is endless.

But I encourage you to at least read about it.

Two books I highly recommend for a neophyte traveler, are "Journeys out of the body" by Robert Monroe (And then EVERYTHING else by Robert Monroe) and "OtherWhere" by Kurt Leland.

The Monroe book will give you the basics and the building blocks.  Otherwhere is like a field guide...

I also recommend these forums.  All sorts of APers hang out here, and pretty much every question will find an answer.

Best of luck to you.

Cheers,

Thank you for the answers.  I read  Robert Monroe book about 24 years. Probably a month or so after I first astral projected.

In my experience - No.  Then again, in my opinion, it depends on your state of mind.  I've had experiences which could have been interpreted as "bad", "scary" or "threatening", but at the time I was having the experience, I chose not to interpret them that way.  Instead I looked upon them with a sound mind, humour or curiosity, nothing more.

You might want to ask why in the world do people have the ability to find foreign languages a doddle, or understand quantum physics, or be able to run the fastest in their class ?  I guess if you have a natural ability, you tend to wonder why.

You don't have to DO anything with it, it can lay dormant if you so choose, but if you are the least bit curious, you can explore and if you find it appealing, then you can do whatever you want with it, whatever feels right for you.

I'd recommend you read about it, but with an open mind.  Try not to let those books create limitations in your mind!

As to the Forums:

The OBE forum is slightly more to do with experiences in the Real Time Zone (RTZ) which is a near copy of the physical world.  In these experiences, you tend to project into your bedroom, or wherever you happen to be relaxing.

The Astral Projection forum leans towards the "otherworldly" type experiences, where you don't know where you are!

However, it's not black and white.

Oh, and finally, can I suggest that you read the topics in the Welcome to Permanent Astral Topics section – a boatload of information can be found there.

[Edit - just realised my post is very similar to the one by stone - however, this is unintentional!!]

Hope you find what you are looking for (if anything)...  :D
