Vibrations

I've read conflicting things on the importance of these vibrations. I've had one successful (but brief) OBE and a few lucid dreams in the last few months but have never really experienced the dramatic vibrations that I've seen described so often. I do get weird auditory hallucinations and sometimes strange physical sensations (like the bed being kicked or my arm jumping).

I have a theory as to why this is so for me. Most of my successful work has been after a night of sleep and I've hardly attempted in the evening hours. Perhaps I would feel the vibrations more if I attempted during the day or at night.

I'm not overly concerned about the vibes. More curious than anything else. Anyone else not usually experience vibes?

it's a funny thing, but over 25 years the vibes have basically gone away.  granted, i usually project several times in the middle of a sleep period or when i'm waking up.

when i first started projecting when i was younger, i felt these vibes because i tried projecting before going to sleep.  or it may even be that i don't notice them anymore, i'm not sure.  i would sometimes hear a sound that sounded like blood flowing through my head (or like hearing underwater) for a few seconds when descending into sleep.  sometimes it's like you can hear your own heart beating, if you're sensitive enough of your physical body.

i often feel energy flowing through my torso and limbs like an energy cloud, but i would get this while fully awake too.  this may not be what you're talking about though.

this might all depend on how you're defining 'vibes'.  are you talking about energy or sounds or what?

I'm talking about the "physical" feeling of vibrations that Robert Monroe described and that I've seen described often. I think you bring up a good point, Astral Traveler, in that maybe you don't get the vibes as much because you project often from sleep. Maybe the vibes are a result of going into the mind-awake/body-asleep phase from normal waking consciousness. I know exactly what you mean about the hearing under water thing.

yes, that's perhaps the closest way that i can describe it.

The closest experience I have ever had was when I realized I was dreaming and suddenly starting vibrating.  Not a small amount mind you, it was out of control.  I also felt like I was going incredibly fast.  My speed made it feel as though I was lifting off the bed.  I remember seeing light flashing through my eye lids (very bright) and I could feel my arms and legs floating with me.  Then my little girl started crying and woke me up.

I have also had a small buzzing feeling throughout my body.  But it was very small.  I focused on it for a little while, moving it to different places on my body.  Then full body.

But that is all I have felt.

when i was younger, i had relatives who would wake me up out of trance.  they'd just walk up to my bedroom door knocking and start intrusively talking.  i don't get that now that i pay a mortgage on my own place.

Hi MinstruelZ.
As far as I've been able to observe, vibrations are what happens when your conscious awareness moves focus from brain synchronization to out of body synchronization- they are a perceptual phenomenon, and they are not 'just one type of vibration' they are a range of sensations, from buzzing to electricity to banging to even soft floaty feelings of disconnection or seizure-like experiences of strobing.  All of these depend on where in the range you have become aware of them.  Because they are a side effect of a change in perception (and not a 'thing' in itself) they can and do go away- once the transition is not traumatic or new, or progresses smoothly.  So the issue of importance is a tricky one- since it's a function of a changeable situation, depending on them to know when's a good time can become tricky.
That's why I always advise to use something else as a signpost for when it's time to try an exit technique.
