So it was about 12:30, and i decided to go to sleep, i had one dream, i dont recall it anymore, after that dream i woke up, or i thought i did. I lay in my bad, in complete darkness, half awake, when i here a song, its not any song though, it is a neofolk song i have been working on, but it was an octave up with distortion on, then the screaming and crying began, not by me though, oh no. Just what sounded like a a man weeping and writhing in pain, over my song of course. I began to freak out, i went to open my eyes, i couldn't, I went to move, I couldn't.

I was paralyzed, I began to freak out, it was at this moment i began to feel, a sort of vibration through out my body. Now, I have done energy work before, I recognized these feelings as the vibrations that one experiences when one has when they are beginning to have there consiousness expand beyond there physical body. I have felt them before, but not as I did at that very moment. My heart was beating faster than it ever had, and the vibrations spread throughout my whole body.

I'm sure that everyone has sat on a massage chair, put it on high and felt the sensations once before. I say that because what i was experiencing was similar to that, except for one key factor... The sensations were coming from inside of my body, radiating throughout me, becoming more and more intense as my heart began to beat faster and faster.

I attempted to move and wake up, at the very least open my eyes, but I could not. I began to feel myself going upward, floating... Leaving my physical body! Keep in mind throughout all of this there was screaming, and weeping, like I had never heard, while the song i had written was being played. The next thing i knew there was silence, I looked down, only to see myself, lying in bed, sleeping on my back, with the blanket somewhat off of me. I was absolutely shocked, I could not belive what I was seeing and feeling!

Then, in an instant, I was back in my body, I opened my eyes, and attempted to move, I could, and I was relieved. I checked the clock; 1:30. My heart was still beating extremely fast, and I felt weak. I lay there, absolutely bonking terrified for a good 15 minutes, wondering what happened. I also noticed that i was sleeping in the exact way i saw, on my back with the blanket have on me. I could not get back to sleep for about and hour.

The thing is that i have put a llot of time into studying astral projection. I have read Robert Monroes books, and i have used the Gateway Experience. I know i experienced sleep paralysis, but the part where i floated out of my bodey really makes me think that i had an OBE. But it was so strange. Do you think i had an OBE? Or was it just a hallucination associated with the sleep paralysis. If it was a spontaneous OBE, where should i go from here?

Sleep paralysis can be a stage of OBE.. Congrats on your first OBE!

Sounds like you were quite there indeed.
Try to keep a bit more focus next time.  :)

Sisyphus

congrats :)  sounds like it was quite intense!  I suspect that it was all very much assisted by all the preplanning and thinking you have done on the subject.

And dont be afraid, nobody has ever been injured or killed AP'ing.
I had similar fears but I'm over all that now.

They say AP can scare even the toughest men in the world

Your description reminds me so much, of my very first time, apart from the music, that must have been horrible man. I dont think, i know you had a obe. Your description of it all is the best Ive seen.

like fresco said, nobody has ever been injured or died, so its all good. Where to go? Have a objective of what you want to AP for ide say :)

Congrats on your first OBE! Although brief, it was an important experience nonetheless! All the common "symptoms" were there, from the vibrations, to the sleep paralysis, and of course the final climax in which you saw yourself laying there.

There are cases where it becomes difficult to distinguish between very lucid dreams that depict OBE's and an actual OBE. But from your description it seems like it was a clear cut OBE. It must have been extremely difficult to focus with the sounds of music, and weeping going on, and the initial shock of seeing your body.

As the previous posters have said, there are no real documented dangers of OBE..that initial fear that people experience is definitely a hard thing to overcome, but from your post it doesn't seem like you were too shaken up from the whole thing. That's great!

Thanks for the responses everyone!  :-D

Alright, now to respond to a few things you all said:
I know that nothing can happen in OBE's, and I had never exactly thought that. I will however admit that it was rather frightening at the time. Looking back, though, it was extremely surreal and blissful, in a way.
Also, I have not had another OBE since this experience, but I also have not been able to try recentely, but I will be trying tonight!

Oh yeah, I also want to say that due to this OBE I have written and recorded an atmospheric, minimalistic acoustic neofolk song, the exact one I heard in the experience!

 :-)

That's awesome!
It's also scarier at the time if it's dark and you're hearing screams/crying, and you're paralyzed
It definitely takes a few times to get used to it
