Cubes are found very rarely in nature. In nature, they are the result of pattern, such as in certain crystals. Thus I would intuit that a cube would be an imposed artificial or crystallised structure.

To dream of water usually indicates conscious or subconscious emotional issues, often revolving around life itself. That the cube is black is an indication of, literally, a lack of light; of consciousness, understanding, and love. The open bottom of the cube is most likely representative of the depths of the subconscious.

To dream of a tree is most often representative of personal growth and development. The state of the tree would then accurately reflect a person's mental outlook and developmental progress.

Overall, I'd say the dream is your subconscious fear of what you perceive as your girlfriend's overpowering negative beliefs and values, and your fear that they will overcome your girlfriend with dire consequences.

It could simply be an entirely fear based nightmare. Then again, you may want to question your girlfriend's or even your own mental outlook for potentially self-destructive proclivities.

I can only give a partial observation of your dream. The reason being is because of the self inflicted wound performed by your girlfriend. I know very little of the dynamics and mechanics and mental attitude on this subject. However, with that particular move placed aside I can give some thoughts on the rest.

A nightmare per se is commonly considered a warning your being alerted to. It is thought when something has gone unheeded over a period of time your dreams alert you. Repeating nightmares is an example of this. In your case, it sounds like a one time event. Do you readily remember your dreams? Is there something going on with a relationship in your life, not necessarily with your girlfriend? The reason not necessarily with your girlfriend, is because she may represent an aspect of yourself, and not your girlfriend in the dream. But again, there is the fact she may be a factor. I'm not able to figure that part because of my lack of knowledge on the subject, and that I don't know either of you.

Placing these two items aside, and on a different level:

This dream is a death dream. You have experienced death.Your awareness or realization of death. A sort of panic reaction. After death comes re-birth. Now you progress forward. Spiritual awakening perhaps. How's your life going?

The star gazing may be your look into the astral. Astral sends you on a journey. The separation process is happening (remember the motivation I can't say). Perhaps separating (dichotomy) of the head from the body (guillotine?). The dividing of the thinking part from the physical part (or spiritual/physical). This can be looked at any many ways. A possible disconnecting or experience with mind/body concepts. Or as simple as separation anxiety (or other source of anxiety/fear).Fear of loss of something is a possibility.

A mixing of the astral with physical existence. What things are coming from the astral? Tree, coming alive and growing.This may very well make one more aware of physical processes. hey again... now i'm awake.

my girlfriend has had absolutely terrible self-esteem for as long as i've known her (1 year and about 8 months). basically, she honestly believes that i'm the ONLY good thing in her life and she's very depressed all the time. well, i'm a college student and my christmas break just ended, so i had to go back to school. kinda like, i had been able to see her every day for a month, and then all of a sudden we hardly get to see each other at all. now, on to my interpretations of all your thoughts...

i know that she's the one who i'm supposed to be with... so this only makes sense, i guess.

i think that there's a lot of unresolved issues with her subconscious. she frequently will "black out" and have no memory of it. during these times, she'll look at me as though i'm an enemy to her. like, she'll honestly be scared as all hell. a couple times, she's claimed that something was talking to her, but she didn't remember it when she snapped back out of it. this kind of thing happens fairly frequently and i feel like there's nothing i can do about it.

this seems to me as though she's growing downward in terms of her outlook on things and her whole state of depression is getting worse. (since the tree is growing upside down and pulling her with it.)

i forgot to mention... even though i recognized both myself and my girlfriend respectively, we were in different bodies or something. physically, we didn't look anything like ourselves. not sure if this is important or not...

recently i've been trying to find a lot more time to meditate and such, but it's hard due to the fact that my roommate doesn't believe in it at all and won't allow me the piece of mind to do so. (he's extremely religious and thinks i'm contacting satan or something, i dunno.) is that the kind of thing you meant?

actually, the strange part is that the tree was dead while it was growing... kind of like the tree wasn't moving itself, like something else was "manipulating" it, i guess would be the best term... i believe the death/rebirth thing plays a factor. after she slit her throat, she died. but after she died, she appeared in the cube and was alive again.

once again, thank you all for your help. further interpretation would be cool too.

The sequence of events is curious, that she kills herself before entering the cube. It could indicate that somehow she has already cut herself off from positive action on her own behalf, which then initiates the rest of the action.

I think the presence of the cube is the real key to unravelling this dream, indicating an artificiality to her problems. Unfortunately, the dead tree growing indicates that her negative situation is feeding off itself, and will only get worse with time.

That you were both physically different is suggestive that neither of you are somehow authentic to each other - not being who you really are. It could mean something else, but that's what comes to my mind. With this new information, I would guess the way to help your girlfriend would be to facilitate her making a genuine connection with herself in some way.

earlier this morning, i was in a class where we were talking about "black boxes" in terms of mysterious aspects of something. when she was in the black cube in the dream, i wasn't with her. could this be something like, she has some kind of hidden part of her subconscious that even she doesn't know about?

Okay I haven't read the other replies yet but

Slitting her throat: represents (from my point of view) lack of communication, she may be lying to you, you may be worried that she is lying to you, you may not be communicating well with her, she may not be communicating well with you, you may think she may not be communicating well with you.

dead tree: symbolizes the rapid growth of something negative, as made clear by it taking her away. Something might be wrong with your relationship and if actions are not taken you two will split.

so..

Do you have doubts or fears abou the relationship ending? Are you lying to her? Do you not trust her? Is something wrong with your communication?

The most important question is "what does it mean to you"

but it sounds like you should work on honest and open communication (even if you have it already it wouldn't hurt to try to reexamine it) and though I know very little about relationships I know that lies will ruin them and you should encourage her to tell you the truth about everything including little "white lies" like "no, those clothes don't look horrible!" ... you know, honesty no matter what is what I'd go for myself, but you obviously have to be nice when being honest.

But still, you can tell us more about the dream than we can.

Holy Reality makes some very good points. The throat is where the chakra is, which is associated with communication or expression.

It sounds like your taking on the role and responsibility of a care taker. Is this the kind of relationship you want?

Back to the dream. Remember this is YOUR dream. Dreams do not lend themselves to solving other people's problems. The dream is about you! Claim it as yours.

Have you considered that you may have gotten yourself into a dependent and/or co-dependent situation? It may even be more serious.This is way out of my realm of knowledge. I don't mean to alarm you, but apparently your dream seems fit to warn you of something.

The fact that both of you in the dream are disguised may be an indicator that your dream is beyond the scope of simple dream interpretation. Does this make sense, and are you okay with this? It make take a professional "look-see" on this.

]), but I've read that it is a situation of resolving an issue or a problem with yourself. The ideal is that you reach the point where you don't have that kind of dream anymore, or you come face to face with this enemy, and conquer in some form or fashion.

Yeah,it can be difficult to find the time and place for such as meditation. I was delving pretty deep here (I get carried away sometimes). I hope your not letting your roommate bother you too much. I like my own space, even that is hard to come by sometimes.

The way I understand it, we indeed create these images ourselves.I think your picking up on this process taking place. This manipulation is your doing. As you progress in this dream, you will make even more changes. For instance, instead of a dead tree, you will turn it into a live tree. Of course, life follows death. That's why your girlfriend is alive again in the dream.

well, my girlfriend and i had some kind of communication issue yesterday... so it looks like we were all pretty on track... we have always had excellent communication until a little while before this dream thing started. she had been hiding the way she feels about certain issues, things that had been recently upsetting her, that kind of thing because i'm at college and she doesn't want to "worry" me with that kind of thing she said. (once again, i emphasize that she has really bad self-esteem).

she has only one close friend outside of me (who hates me, by the way) and her friend and i got into a pretty big fight last night. so, my girlfriend feels really stuck in the middle because both of us want her support and she doesn't agree with either of us completely on the issue.

well that's the short version, anyway. i think that at least the dream issue is resolved pretty well... thanks again, everyone! [

I'm still thinking on your dream. Interesting view you have about the cube. The cube is serving as a protective covering in the dream, and yet there is an escape or open side.

hmmm...
so i found out that for the last couple days my girlfriend has been having those kinds of dreams that don't go away for a few seconds once you wake up... (bordering on hallucinations). over the last 3-4 days, it's to the point where she's afraid to go to sleep. There are several different things that happen...

1. she was having a dream where she was sick from school and laying in bed. her mom brought her a tray of food for her to eat, but apparently there was NO food on the tray, and it just became an army of gross white spiders. When she woke up, she still saw the spiders all over her room and ran out screaming. her parents had to hold her down until she calmed herself.

2. she was having a dream where there was a humanoid looking monster with red, scaly skin attacking/raping her. when she woke up, she thought it was still going on.

3. (this one's a little odd) she dreamed that someone put her into a giant bowl of cheerios and she drowned because for some reason she couldn't swim in it. (the drowning thing is kind of the same as my dream...)

4. she dreamed that she was falling out of the sky with nothing to grab onto other then an electrical wire. she grabbed it to stop falling and woke up thinking she was being electrocuted.

5. she dreamed that she went over to her ex-boyfriend's house and found he and her old best friend were... um... rounding third, shall i say. apparently then her ex-boyfriend decided he was going to point his pistol at my girlfriend as a joke, so she jumped to the ground. he told her he was joking and then the gun misfired and shot her in the throat because she was still on the ground. (notice the throat reference again?) then she woke up and thought that she really had been shot in the neck.

this whole thing started just as we resolved this whole black cube dream of mine... any thoughts?

I spoke of blocks in dreams somewhere. When looking at a dream, I have to look at those things that block my view of a dream.For instance, a person who is at home and sick, and missing school, is not necessarily a good subject for an evaluation of dream content. There may be a present manifested condition that needs attention. When this condition is stabilized, then the later dream content will be more significant. That doesn't mean that any dreams at present are not significant, just muddled and more complex.What is expressed in dreams in a fragile state, may be only the residual of random things going on.This can be as simple as being a release dream. A release dream doesn't continue to be upsetting even after waking in my personal opinion.Symptoms persisting after waking suggests something that needs professional or medical attention.A physical exam is a good idea.Being in a bowl of cereal does show a perceived small spirit, which may be where the self esteem is reflected (and of course more possibilities).The thing is, the drowning in your dream is different(another aspect you may or maynot recognize). Generally, drowning has to do with being flooded or overwhelmed with something. What is your source of being swallowed up in, may be different to another. Her drowning seems to involve being out of proportion(note,she recognizes it as herself in the dream), whereas, yours is contained in a black vacuum or isolation. Anyway, this is just my off the cuff thoughts for now.

The throat connection you picked up is a good one. Notice this one wasn't a self inflicted wound. This is good. It sounds more like injury due to something.After the physical or present block can be removed, and time will tell more about this.Or, it may just go away without knowing it's meaning.The realization and effect being present after awaking is a warning (again) that this needs a medical checkup. When someone has a physical problem going on, it effects sleep. The body sends out warnings to be recognized. Sometimes a person has to reach out for help.

An added note. Trees consistently can mean "existence".

The cube has 3 sides (the number of people envolved), and an opening. The abyss may be your lack of solution at this time.

You cause people to worry about you because your not acting on your concerns. Simple medical testing can clear up a lot of the not knowing part. If you can't talk to your parents, talk to a health care person,such as someone at an emergency department. The serious part is your not getting help on this!

My daughter had what she described as black outs (or something like that). It was a simple problem, low blood sugar. She's better now because she understands what it is. She has gained control of it. She went through a fear phase too.

Is there a problem for you to get medical attention? If not, get checked now, dolphin.Don't try to fix this yourself, you sound very young. Help is available.

i was with dolphins when she posted and after i left i called her while i was driving. she asked me what a broken arm felt like and i told her. then she said that she was in her closet and neither of us knew why. i made her go down and talk to her parents, but i don't know what they said and she doesn't remember either.

in terms of age, i'm 18 and she's 17. but that doesn't mean that we don't know what we're doing or have had any kind of experiences like this before. keep in mind you know hardly anything about us.

she's been in the hospital TONS of times and never has a blood test come back with a low blood sugar or anything like that. she's had MRIs and pretty much everything you can imagine. she's flat-out being controlled by something. i just want to know how to make it stop. it only happens when she's really down or not keeping herself busy. she'll either lose consciousness, wander elsewhere in the immediate vicinity, or start saying random things about the apocalypse and how everyone on earth is going to die. THAT, my friend, is the issue.
