Lucid Dream question

2 days ago I had lucid awareness in my dream. I was walking to our backdoor and it looked like a detective was snooping around the house for a minute on the street and I walked out the door onto the patio and where the steps were was an invisible door that I had to open (knew it was dream after that happened). i went near our gate and started cussing him out saying why he's here and I want him to step over the gate so I can kick his butt lol. So he did and my mom came out wondering what's going on. Then they started to come closer to me and I told both of them to leave me alone so I can lucid dream and they did. The man walked away and disappeared and my mom just stared at me trying to see what I was going to do. I closed my eyes and tried to concentrate but nothing happened. I couldn't change anything and woke up.

Now the question. Was it just a coincidence that they stopped when I told them I want to lucid dream and what should I do or focus on to change things.

I don't think it was coincidence.  I think your wish partly came true.  You can change things but you have to have belief and a strong expectancy in that things will happen.  Confidence there is paramount.  Also, there is an array of techniques you can perform to improve the quality of the dream environment and to prolong your stay in the metaphysical.  I usually rub hands and blow on them the minute I become lucid.  Touch objects can also help.  It is known as deepening and it should be performed first and foremost before the big adventure and also as needed (do it when you also see that you are losing your lucidity or about to return to wakefulness).

By the way, let me explain briefly how I see the whole thing.  for me there are only three main states of consciousness...

Waking State: Also known as wakefulness.  In this state we perceive the physical realm.  You are conscious and self-aware and there is realism of perception.  The environment is stable and there is no effort necessary to enter this state.  The world we perceive here seems to follow set rules but, on a quantum level, things are more uncertain and less logical.

Dream State: This is NON-lucid. Self-awareness is scarce or absent.  One is immersed in plots and often detached from waking life memories.  Environments can be vivid or vague, may display some logic but often closer to the abstract mind and the symbolic.  It lacks realism of perception, environments are not stable and again, there is no required effort to enter this state (all one has to do is fall asleep).  Everybody dreams and dream recall can be improved using certain techniques.

Phase State: Also known as the Phase.  This entails OOBEs and lucid dreams.  They are the same to me.  This elusive state can be entered before, during and after sleep.  Effort is required to enter it but entries can be involuntary too.  You are conscious and self-aware in the metaphysical realm.  It is unlike dreaming (although one can slip into the dream state from here and vice versa) and it is closer to the waking state experience than anything else.  It entails realistic phantom experiences that often surpass the quality of the waking world.  Environments can seem stable but they can change (far less volatile than the dream state environments though).
