The castle of the careless king

It was nighttime and I was with some friends playing a strange chess game. I attacked with the bishop, and launched it a great distance over landscapes of fields and urban areas, but it didn't get where I wanted it to. They told me the castle stood beyond that place, so I took off and flew towards the area.

The view was beautiful and my flying was very good, surprisingly. After arriving at the castle I meet one of the king's subjects, who tells me that the king is asleep, but invites me to walk in and explore. The place is not too big, the king sleeps on a couch in the living-room, by his side lies a bottle of wine. I ask the subject why the king sleeps there, then he tells me that it's because they have no beds.

Since it's kinda late I'm invited to spend the night there, so I take a look at some of the rooms, they are all very nice with wide windows and colorful carpets, but this carpet must be someone's bed.

Not feeling sleepy I go for a walk. After exploring the middle and the top floor of this 3 stories castle I notice that they don't have a lot of furniture, instead they have holes in the columns and walls where they keep things like trinkets, glasses and other things.

The night is gone, and I'm at a window staring into the blue of the sky, then it turns into a huge sphere, then I wake up.

Hehe, I like this!
Good detail, painted a very nice picture for me, felt like I was experiencing it in its fullest  :-D .

I love the title of this dream - you are very creative!  It reminds me of the Court of the Crimson King.

Interesting how the castle on a chess board becomes a real castle.  Nice association.

My flying is dodgy to say the least - I tend to hover vertically and can't go very fast.

Were you lucid in this dream?

Thanks wow_nonamesleft and Sarah!

Ah, I try to avoid flying as much as I can, and use it only as the last resort because most of the time I have a hard time controlling it. Either I end up passing the place where I wanted to land or, most incredibly, I get stuck in the air and can't make a descent. There was a trick to counteract that, which was to make my legs heavy and then move downwards vertically, but now this rarely works and takes a huge effort.

So your flying style is kinda what I would imagine a saint would fly like, have you always flown like that?

When you said 'Court of the Crimson King' I thought it was a novel, even being a fan of British rock I'm not sure if I've heard their music before, but now I'm checking some of their clips on youtube and... 'Islands' is already my favourite  :-)

There could possibly be some kind of subconscious link between that album and this title.

Ops, yes, I was lucid, not from the start though.

Hi Andrew

My flying style is as you imagine.  It's the only way I seem to have any control.  I wouldn't even call it flying really - more like levitating around at walking pace!!  :-D

'Court of the Crimson King' is actually the title of an album by a band called 'King Crimson' - they were around in the late 60s/early 70s.  Quite trippy stuff.  However, there may well be a band with that title - no doubt nicked from King Crimson.  :-)

Cool that you like their music.
