Hey Everyone,

Though I'm new to this forum, I'm not new to most all things spiritual ...

However, one thing I haven't delved into deeply is the concept of Chakras.

For people who are very new to the concept, what would you teach them?

Let's turn this thread into the essential beginners guide to chakras, where new comers can come and ...

  • See the basics of Chakra's by other members ...
  • See how other members are using the knowledge of Chakras in their daily life ...
  • etc...

By no means let those bullet points limit the discussion. Keep it going with the essential thought that your post will contribute to an awesome thread full of information on what people are doing with the knowledge of Chakras and how they work ... :-)

And to start, how about someone give the basics in a nut shell of Chakras :-)

Looking forward to interacting with you all ...

With Love & Gratitude,

Ok, let's answer:

1. What kind of chakras are there?
2. What do chakras look like?
3. Where are chakras located?
4. What functions do chakras have?
5. How can you prove your answers are true?

each chakra is a mind
each mind is a universe
each universe is an eternity

if you put your focus in your root you are 7 eternity's behind the crown
they all run with the same story , the story of everything the story of life

just because they look like you and live your story's does not mean they are you

I'm in no way an expert. A year ago, I would have said they were silly BS and made up. But from my experience since, this is what I would have to say about those questions at this point in time...

1. What kind of chakras are there?

They are a mystery. Strange, swirling energy, only witness-able in an altered state of consciousness.

They each have a "quality" that is more expressive the bigger they are... ie. there are small chakras on the fingers, that don't have a discernible quality, but the larger heart chakra palpitates with states like love or for a broken heart, and the solar plexus chakra is apparent to even the most non-sensitives with deep anxiety or over-arching dominance.

2. What do chakras look like?

I have only seen them as extremely fast spinning wheels/circles, and only during OBEs. I've never witnessed cones or other descriptions I've read about. Also, for me, they have a distinctive sound like a helicopter or a strong engine reving up.

3. Where are chakras located?

Everywhere. There a huge number of chakras. Way more (in my experience) than the 3, 5 or 7 you'll read in a book. Joints, organs, and nerve bundles are the easiest places to find them.

4. What functions do chakras have?

A mystery. But it seems like they can 1) activate physical reactions like healing, hormones, feelings, etc.. and 2) have a subjective effect, such as making one more confident, comfortable, aggressive, creative, etc.. in situations depending on your focus.

5. How can you prove your answers are true?

IMHO, you can't and you never will be able to prove it to anyone. But if you experience yourself, then you don't need to prove it to anyone else.

Robert Bruce in Astral Dynamics talks a lot about energy work and the major and minor chakras. I didn't buy into them much. The root chakra, located at the base of the spine, is very noticeable when a sexual thought arises during meditation. The third-eye chakra acts up on me at times - you feel pressure in the center of the forehead. I once had a beautiful meditation experience where I felt like I went into my heart, or solar plexus, and felt this intense bliss for a few seconds. Om Mani Padme Hum.

Its really simple. Experiment and experience. You will find something.
If a few smart and reasonable people agree on commonalities, it is established beyond doubt.

10 years ago I called it all BS. After reading books and many OBE experiences, I opened my mind (actually the experiences shattered my beliefs into nothing, leaving me looking like a fool...embarrassing...). After continued experiments (Yoga and meditation), I've reached a stage where I can feel each chakra physically just by willing and taking my attention there. The 'feel' is a real sensation and varies in strength from mild tickle to acute pain.

I could have written in detail how each one feels to me at this stage, but since the experience varies for an individual depending on his level of progress, my description would mean very little. Its a subjective thing (with some exceptions) and everyone must experience it themselves and compare notes. Its just like seeing a red rose and agreeing on the color red, although no one can prove that it is red to a blind (=inexperienced one).
