Summary of Magical "Schools"

Hi All. I'm trying to put together a generalized list of the types of magical practice available to man in our day and age. It can and should include everything, from Hermetics to backyard witchcraft. Left path, Right path, i just want to get a good overall picture of the options and definitions of magical study, no matter the origin. I'm sure different people would have different opinions on what qualifies, so any input is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Oh, there are too many actual things to list. If you want actual physical schools where you can go to learn... I think the church of life has a monk program. Most schools are self-taught.

I was looking for schools in the sense of "types" of magic. Yes, i'm sure there are quite a few, and lots are the same thing with different geographic/cultural titles.

Egyptian magic
Kabbalah
Nature Magic (what other names?)
Witchcraft
Enochian
Elohim
Shamanism
Druidry

Ok, that's a start. But it gets rather extensive and complicated, as there is a lot of crossover among the categories.

Whether Druidic , Wicca, Hermetic, Thelmetic, Qabalistic or Direct Magic, these schools use any one or more of the following categories of magic:

Black Magic
Celestial Magic
Death Magic
Divination
Elemental Magic
Enchanting
Life Magic
Nature Magic
Psi Magic
Satanic Magic
Sorcery
Summoning
White Magic
Wizardry

IMHO they are all really the same thing at the core.  Lables are just a human way to categorise, and set limitations.  If you could study all of them, you would find so many similarites in different aspects.  That is to say certain things get done the same way regardless.  While other things can be done many differnt ways.  

I can think of 4 very different techniques to heal the same problem in a person(there are more, I'm going with what I know at this time), yet the end result is the same.  So does it really matter if one is hands on, one is hands near, one is hands on guided, and one is hands off guided?

Thank you, that is what i was looking for. I agree Rastus that the end result of most of these categories is the same thing. But from the standpoint of wanting to just collect the "labels" then this is helpful.

I've never heard of Kitchen before. Would that be involving the enchantment or putting energy into food?

Kitchen magic, sexual magic and vampiric magic all find there homes in the magical castes already mentioned.  There are not castes in and of themselves.

The question of Direct Magic and how it is best described as it compares  to Ritual Magic.  Where as the castes exist in both there are elaborate rites or rituals one goes through to accomplish one's magical goal.  Direct Magic dispenses with the ritual and goes right to the task at hand.

My guess would be that the "Direct Magic" is the most powerful form of magic - without the need for any spells, rituals, tools or other utensils - pure "thought makes/changes reality".

Sure you can learn magic.  The magical arts are as old as the hills,  highly developed and refined.

"Yes way" magic still exists.  You need to understand the term magic.  I am all to familiar with "energy" as it is an integral part of Magic.

Grey Magic may be defined as:
Magic or magick is the science and art of causing change to occur in conformity with the Will using means not currently understood by Western science, (Which makes magic the science of the future.) for the purpose of causing either physical or non-physical good to yourself or others and is done either consciously or unconsciously.

Black magic is the same only is for the purpose of causing harm to someone.

White magic is similar but the goal is more to gain knowledge of the Angelic realm.

Magic is real enough. Very real actually, although i've yet to master it. Magic in this world is simply enough manipulation of energy. In terms of evolution, the human species (and all species and matter, extraterestrial and otherwise) are striving toward perfection. Perfection being a Oneness with God, which is the Universe, meaning comprehenion of Existense from the perspective of God. All humans are destined to achieve this goal. It is not a race, and we wil all reach it eventually, some simply before others. Jesus was, in esoteric terms, a spiritual magician. Christians would probably consider that blasphemy, but i was raised christian and i consider it the highest privelege. It's all about perspective. magic is not EVIL. It is a tool, and as any tool, it can be used to harm or hurt. that's a big reason why magic has been kept secret for so long before now. Humans have abused it in the past, it was taken away, society restarted, and only recently have we "earned" the right to use it responsibly. We as humans along with Mother Earth are striving to a New Age of love and perfection. Magic, in time, will become commonly understood Science, i'm sure of it.  Astrology, Tarot, Grey, White, Black, etc, etc...they are all pieces of the whole. Religions are attempts to explain greater universal lessons, and none are wholly correct nor wholly wrong.

We Westerners are too absorbed in materialism, and it hurts us as a whole. At the same time, we have great potential and wealth to lend to the rest of the world.

Hello Everyone
  Kitchen Magic is using herbs to enchant food while cooking and simple household things. An example of this is a jar of knots. You take threads and pieces of yarn and knot them three or seven times with things you wish to bring to you or keep from you. You place it in a jar and keep it in your kitchen.
  Direct Magic would probably be dusting someone with voodoo powders or herbs to cause them problems. Sort of primitive but used to make a person afraid where the rest of the magic would work.
  I have a discussion group where we talk about different subjects although most of the time it is slanted more towards hermetics and ritual magic. I did a discussion group so I would not have the ranks or structure of a school. I wanted it so people could freely study what they wanted and be able to ask questions. Everyone is working upon themselves with Initiation into Hermetics by Franz Bardon.

  The main troubles I have seen with schools is that they teach you what they know and do not diversify enough where a person can find what is correct for them. Ranks of who is better than the other person engenders ego problems and fights between people. It defeats the purpose of the school most of the time. Controlling the people and intimidating them is also another problem.A discussion group is more freewheeling and has a better variety of knowledge.

For the record, i'm a member of Nita's magic group, and it is a totally open and free environment for learning, as she stated previously. Franz Bardon was and is a master  of hermetic teaching, meaning basically that he was and is and will be a divine representative of God and Divine Providence, from time Before and As Will Come. Their group is a wonderful environment for questions and answers, with the caveat that it is rather advanced thinking. Think of it as a Grad School college class, and most humans are mere high school freshman...You're ready for what you're ready, and not a moment before.

Dude,
Everyone forgot Kao$ Magic. It doesn't use a metaphysical 'system' or Hierarchy of gods unless you want to. Its very free form and you can use it with any chosen school of Magic. The whole idea is that belief is a means not an end, and that belief gives you power. Magical power doesn't stem from a god it stems from you.
