a long time ago i had a very strange and scary experience.  i was attempting an obe and im not sure if i fell asleep and dremt it or if it really happened.  so heres what happened.  my astral body sat up, and i felt this strong presence of evil or just something that wanted to harm me. i was so scared that i didnt even open my eyes..i couldnt see anything i just felt a tingling in my neck. then i felt intense pain around my neck and i could feel hands strangeling me and banging my head against my headboard.  i could hear a roar of sound but could not understand what was being said. finally my real eyes opened and i was awake. i cannot figure out if i was dreaming or if it was for real...it felt really real.  i have only one other experience and that time i know i sat up...but was too scared and went back into my body, i also felt an evil presense that time and the two experiences  were about 6 years appart....im not sure what to make  of it!   oh and by the way the two OBE experiences were in different houses...neither of which i know of to be haunted...if that even makes a difference.  i really want to try again but i guess i need some encouragement and an explanation if anyone can give me one.....

i guess my question is :

can you get attacked like that when your astral projecting?

and if it is possible what can i do to protect myself? 

or was it just a silly dream and, i should just try again?

Yes, you can because I have before. It sounds like a NEG (Negative Energy Entities) as Robert Bruce likes to call it.

It doesn't matter whether the house is haunted or not, you can still be attacked.

and if it is possible what can i do to protect myself? 

Robert Bruce has a book entitled, "Practical Psychic Self-defense: Understanding and Surviving Unseen Influences," that may help (hopefully) but I haven't read it.

Personally, NEGS seem to never really go away forever (at least in my case they don't). I either fight it or Phase/go back into my body (I almost always fight it though).

Just know that nothing can really harm you while OOB.

I don't think it was a dream because it sounds too close to my experiences with NEGS while OOB.

You shouldn't give up (although I can't blame you for thinking about giving up after what happened to you). While attempting to go OOB, only focus on having a positive experience (I'm not saying that you definately won't experience anything negative) and most likely you will.

No matter what situation you find yourself in, try to stay calm because being scared or thinking negative can only make the situation worse.

Once you overcome your fears, you will have a whole new world to explore with a whole new set of laws.
